We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Farm Manager to join our dynamic team, based in Alberton. Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a farm by planning, organizing, managing livestock, and maintenance of facilities and equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the feed yards.
• Ensure profitable operations of the feedlot to optimize feeding parameters.
• Develop a feeding program for the herd, considering any special considerations.
• Understand the nutritional requirements for the livestock of relevance, considering what promotes healthy growth.
• Work with veterinarians to ensure animal health is maintained, and any sickness is caught immediately.
• Prepare plans and schedules for planting, spraying, land operations, and harvesting and ensure staff understands expectations.
• Ensure that the feedlot is clean and well maintained.
• Report on weekly feedlot performance and manage a feed budget.
• Manage feedlot and appropriate safety standards and relations with employees, suppliers, and customers.
• Manage the sale of livestock to buyers.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Tertiary education in the Agricultural Field
• Minimum of 3 - 6 years’ proven experience in the industry
• Previous experience in livestock farming
• Experience in farming/agriculture.
• Must have at least two years of experience driving a tractor.
• Sound knowledge of Farm Equipment Maintenance.
• Supervisory experience will be advantageous.
• Valid driver’s license is mandatory.
• Weekend duties and Standby is mandatory.
• Must be a good communicator (written and verbal) & Computer Literate

Package & Remuneration

A competitive salary package will be negotiated, based on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities will include managing production targets, quality, cost efficiencies, staff, and compliance with bio-security protocols. Duties & Responsibilities Coordinate and assist with all production-related activities ensuring consistent compliance with SOPs and production targets as set. Effective management of staff. Adhering to Health and Safety requirements and assisting with managing Bio-Security protocols. Optimize utilization of all equipment, buildings, and machinery in use at the Farm. Assist with managing the flow of production data. Ensuring the high standards of animal welfare, hygiene, and animal husbandry practices are maintained at all times. The following position has become available for an Assistant Farm Manager, based in Muden (KZN). The purpose of this role is assisting the senior manager in day-to-day management of all farming operations on the business unit.

Responsibilities

Operational Task Supervision

• Assist the Farm Manager in coordinating and supervising daily farm production activities.
• Plan and monitor tasks to ensure timely and quality completion.
• Monitor and control operational costs related to tasks and inputs.
  
  

Machinery and Equipment Maintenance

• Conduct routine inspections of all farm equipment and implements prior to use.
• Identify and carry out basic repairs to avoid equipment failure and reduce downtime.
• Adopt a preventative maintenance approach to ensure equipment reliability and longevity.
• Ensure correct and safe use of machinery and prevent misuse or abuse.
  
  

Labour Supervision (Fluent in Zulu is essential)

• Allocate workers to specific tasks in alignment with the farm’s operational plans.
• Supervise and manage both permanent and fixed-term contract employees for maximum productivity.
• Monitor and maintain the quality of completed work.
• Apply basic disciplinary procedures when necessary in accordance with company policy.
• Foster positive and respectful relationships with all employees, promoting teamwork and motivation.
  
  

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

Education

• Minimum: National Diploma in Agriculture
• Ideal: B.Tech in Agriculture
  
  

Training

• Minimum: Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
• Ideal: Advanced proficiency in MS Word and Excel
  
  

Experience

• At least 2 years in a similar role such as Farm Supervisor or Junior Farm Manager
  
  

Language

• Fluency in Zulu is essential for effective communication with the labour force.
