Production- Assist supervisors and planner in developing production plan, policies, programs and objectives
- Review and adjust the schedule where needed
- Monitor and control production targets and maintain quality standards and monitor improvement and recommendations through CPAR
- Management of process team to investigate and root cause corrective actions
- Monitor and guide department supervisors in manufacturing and safety procedures
- Department visual management is maintained and that communication within morning meetings is effective (bad news first)
- Manage human and material resources to meet production targets
- Work out and implement standard operating procedures for production operations
- Managing all product and process costings, headcounts, and manhours
- Labour costing and requisition motivation and approval
- Ensure that standard operating procedures are adhered to
- Determine and implement improvements to the production process
- Prepare and maintain production reports daily, weekly, monthly
- Monitor and review the performance of staff and organize necessary interventions for improvement
- Implement cost control programs
- Ensure efficient collaboration and coordination between relevant departments including commercial, stores, distribution, technical and management teams
- Communication with customers and suppliers
- Monitor production efficiencies in all departments and ensure corrective actions are taken to rectify poor performance
- Ensure and analyze production and quality control to detect and correct problems
- Manage all production employees directly or indirectly through supervisors
- Work with HR on staff performance related issues and discipline in line with company policies
- Monitor and control company code of conduct for employees
- Direct and coordinate various programs essential to manufacturing processes
- Develop action plans and targets in line with strategy and operating budget of department
- Heads reviews and reports on each department's strategy and ensure all objectives are understood and met
- Transform business to focus on quality standardization and systems improvement
- Ensures the effective functioning of the following departments:
SMT
PBA /Final Assembly
LAB
- Justify/motivate for increase/decrease in personnel
- Close monitoring of process performance within the department
- Carry out performance appraisals on subordinates
- Provide technical support to department and customers
- Continually assess and train
- Ensure workmanship standards are maintained at an acceptable level
- Ensure highest levels of housekeeping at all time
- Sign off on material variances that are significant and investigate
- Attend Manco meetings and present on department performance
- Attend quality review meeting
- Ensure month end line side stock counts are performed
- All completed job cards are signed off and closed
- WIP minimized by month end
- All kits that have been produced are returned to stores
- Liase and consult with Human resources department and assist with the implementation of:
- Effective succession planning
- Recruitment and talent management and retention
- Training and development
- Transformation and BEE
- Provide a safe working environment, adhering to OHSE procedures, and ensuring that they are understood and in place and practiced by the team at all times
- Ensure implementation and adherence to health and safety procedures
- Guide the manufacturing departments and assist in developing and implementing quality management strategies
- Communicate and implement strategy for quality improvement of quality issues across all departments
- Takes responsibility for ensuring compliance to PL’s QMS in line with ISO 9001
- Identify risks and opportunities in the department
- Identify any improvement opportunities for processes
- Ensure production processes are delivering intended outputs
- Responsibility of maintaining QMS documentation where your departments are concerned
- Assist quality department and other supervisors in achieving any other accreditations being pursued
- Set and monitor product quality standards
- Implement and enforce quality control and tracking programs to meet quality objectives
- Management and Leadership Conflict resolution
- Leading an effective cohesive production team and managing performance within the department
- Promotion of BEE compliance, Employment Equity, Skills Development and health and safety standards
- Ensure that the repairs and maintenance schedule is followed for all scheduled maintenance
- Any non-scheduled machine maintenance/breakdowns are resolved timeously
- Manage the maintenance team to ensure all maintenance functions are being performed
- Evaluate machinery to ensure correct Cpk is being achieved and arrange for maintenance/calibration with relevant suppliers as and when required
- Manage subcontractors who manage maintenance on certain equipment (air conditioning, hoist, etc)
- Make decisions about equipment use, maintenance, modification, and procurement

Duties & Responsibilities- Diagnose problems, prepare estimates for repairs and check if still in warranty.
- Liaise with customers in case of warranty issues.
- Offer customers a pre-assessment visit to confirm challenging problems.
- Follow up on parts orders and promptly inform customers of any delays.
- Create Repair Quotations and orders.
- Arrange booking reminders.
- Maintain accurate customer information.
- Monitor outstanding parts ordered and unpaid invoices.
- Develop, implement and monitor standards and routines, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness within the workplace.
- Coordinate Spare Parts activity to ensure parts availability for service exchange and warranty parts procedures.
- Manage the workshop facilities and HSE together with Safety Officer.
- Create working time schedules for work shifts based on Repairs Schedules.
- Attend to Daily and Weekly Workshop reporting to Directors regarding WIP, Efficiency, Productivity, Debtors and Creditors.
- Process complaints and handle major or complicated complaints.
- Participate in meetings with Key customers when required.
- Market and communicate service solutions to existing and potential customers.
- Enable a team-based approach ensuring open and effective communication within the workshop to achieve common business objectives.
- Monitor the workshop’s pricing and discounts to ensure they meet the established level.
- Feedback and focus on workshop results – Develop the workshop business by following up budget, results, operational targets and taking measures to achieve set targets.
- Manage and analyse the workshop’s running costs and expenditure budget.
- Regularly follow up service business and financial results.
- Set, monitor, maintain and follow up KPIs as per Company procedures.
- Work with and handle applicable licenses for the workshop operations, monitor possible developments.
- Analyse current standards to identify and present opportunities for improvement of the workshop.
- Proactively initiate improvement activities, ensuring conditions are in place to achieve workshop goals.
- Oversee all Internal, Warrant, and on-site workshop and Staff.
- Communicate effectively with employees, management, and external parties.
- Contribute to a positive and transparent work environment.
- Grade 12.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in service/parts departments of the automobile or trailer industries.
- Code 08 Drivers License.
- Knowledge of stock control systems would be an advantage.

Our client, a highly reputable Global Automotive Manufacturing concern, is currently in search of a strong and assertive Production Manager to lead and join their dynamic team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Disciplinary leadership of the production unit
- Leading the Production team
- Assure and ensure appropriate assets (manpower, equipment, infrastructure, and materials) of the production unit are available and deployed to deliver the required and agreed operational performance.
- Lead, manage, coach, mentor and develop production unit leadership with passion to ensure that a diverse result-orientated organization is in place and is cascaded throughout the production unit by empowerment, clear accountability and compliance.
- Drive the organization in achieving operational performance / budget unit targets of safety, quality and customer delivery performance.
- Drives and fosters an environment of continuous improvement, ensures that there is long term vision (plant level) for the production unit.
- Ensure that customers internally and externally, product lines and other functions are fully understood and that reliable relationships are established and maintained to the mutual benefit of all stakeholders.
- Drives the new product launches.

QUALIFICATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Relevant Production / Engineering / Finance or Related Degree or Diploma is essential.
- 5+ years solid working experience in Operations and relevant experience within the automotive/component manufacturing/engineering industry is required.
- 2+ years leadership experience of a large production team with exposure gained in a unionised environment and high volume shift patterns with focus on safety, quality and performance.
- Experience in Lean management, Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement.
- SAP experience will be highly advantageous.
- Proficiency on MS Office (i.e. MS Excel and MS Word).
- Transformation competence and organizational development skills.
- Must have coaching and mentoring skills.
- Business / Finance Management skills.
- In-depth knowledge in Safety and Quality.
- Delivery and Production experience.
- Understanding of South African Labour Laws and industrial relation matters.
