This permanent position is based in Blackheath, Cape Town, and has a 3-month probation period.
Responsibilities
- Enforce legal compliance with the MHSA in all maintenance activities and adhere to site safety standards and procedures
- Identify and diagnose earthmoving machine defects and faults, and perform required repairs
- Conduct preventative maintenance, major and daily services, and inspections in accordance with OEM and company standards
- Compile machine condition reports, identify required repairs, and execute them timeously
- Identify parts and part numbers using OEM manuals and/or systems
- Apply a systematic approach to fault finding using machine schematics, workshop manuals, and parts manuals
- Complete and submit all required site documentation accurately and on time
- Apply quality control on all maintenance activities to ensure a minimum fleet availability of 85% and MTBF of at least 40 hours
- Ensure maintenance work meets MHSA legal compliance standards
- Report daily on maintenance activities, observations, hazards, and risks to the relevant supervisor
- Provide mentorship and performance management for apprentices
Qualifications
- N2 Qualification
- Matric Certificate
- Trade Certificate (Earthmoving/Diesel)
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years post-trade experience in the earthmoving and/or mining industry
- Proven track record with the required technical skillset
- Good safety record
- Must be honest and reliable
- Must align with the culture and values of SPH
- Strong administrative, financial, and budgeting skills
- Willing to relocate and able to work unsupervised
- Proficient in English and Afrikaans (read, write, and speak)
- Valid Driver's Licence (Code 08)
- No criminal record
- Medically fit and healthy (able to pass a Mine Medical)
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, and management

Job Specification:
The HEM/Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and repair of heavy-duty earth-moving equipment. This includes:
- Conducting inspections to identify potential problems and damage.

• Maintain discipline and good industrial relations within the department

• Ensure that employee suggestions, personal difficulties and grievances are communicated to management, and take the necessary action to resolve such matters
Qualifications:
• N4 Mechanical Technician/diploma
