Our client, a leading Environmental Consulting company based in KwaZulu, is looking to fill the position of Environmental Scientist.
Purpose of the Role: As a Consultant in the Environmental Services Division, you will play a pivotal role in providing expert advice and guidance on environmental issues to clients, mainly within the mining industry. You will be responsible for undertaking a broad spectrum of environmental consulting work, including EIA, Water Use Licence (IWUL) applications, environmental auditing and compliance monitoring, assessment of environmental impacts, environmental risk assessments, development of mitigation strategies and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and policies.
Key Responsibilities- Initiate and complete environmental and social legislative processes to obtain relevant authorisations (Environmental Impact Assessments, Water Use Licencing, Waste Management Licences, etc.).
- Work in close collaboration with environmental specialists from other disciplines.
- Compile and write the required reports and other supporting documents for submission to clients and relevant authorities.
- Conduct environmental compliance auditing.
- Serve as an environmental control officer.
- Undertaking site visits.
- Client liaison.
- Undertake public participation processes.
- Mentor and guide junior environmental scientists.
- Implementing GIS and mapping.
- Report progress on deliverables in accordance with project schedules.
- Assist with project management functions, including developing project schedules, invoicing, budget management, and proposal development.
- Grade 12 Senior Certificate
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Management.
- Post graduate degree in Environmental Management is beneficial.
- Minimum 8 years’ experience within the Environmental Consulting Sector.
- Proven experience and a good understanding of environmental authorisation processes.
- Professional registration (EAPASA, SACNASP).
- Proficient in MS Office, including MS Excel & MS Word.
- Experience in managing projects and budgets.
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
- Strong understanding of applicable mining related legislation is beneficial.
- Strong numerical ability and excellent attention to detail.
- Knowledge of GIS systems and modelling software (Global Mapper) is beneficial.
