Duties and Responsibilities:

Environmental Management System (EMS)

  • Implement, maintain, and continually improve an ISO 45001:2018-aligned OHS management - Implement, maintain, and continuously improve the ISO 14001:2015-aligned EMS across head office and all operational sites.
  • Coordinate environmental aspects/impacts assessments; maintain site-specific risk registers and environmental management plans (EMPs).
  • Lead internal EMS audits; track findings and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).

  • Report and investigate environmental incidents, hazards, and HPHs.
  • Follow up on incident, hazard, and HPH close-out.
  • Conduct stormwater environmental management inspections.
  • Monitor the implementation of action plans for managing environmental problems.
  • Record test data and prepare reports, summaries, and charts interpreting test results.
  • Contribute to Environmental Management Improvement plans and system inputs.
  • Assist and support operations in regulatory compliance and adherence to regulatory measures.
  • Collect water samples from various sources to assess pollution problems.
  • Conduct environmental sampling and monitoring (water, dust, biodiversity, etc.).
  • Perform basic calculations and enter data into the computer.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary reports and records as required.

Stakeholder Relationship Management:

  • Establish, cultivate, and sustain positive relationships with stakeholders involved in Environmental standards.
  • Convert knowledge into valuable insights for projects and operations, improving business performance.
  • Obtain required qualifications and certifications and comply with country-specific legal requirements.
  • Apply environmental concepts to offer practical solutions that meet the environmental standards of the operations.

Budget Management and Cost Control:

  • Assist in developing the Departmental budget.
  • Discover chances for better cost management and take action to address them or report them to your supervisor.
  • Compare the work done towards the end of the project with the contract requirements and specifications.
  • Consolidate the budget at the end of a project and notify the Financial Department of any unspent funds.

This role is in the Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) at a Band 7 level reporting to the Section Manager Environmental.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12
  • Higher National qualification in Environmental Sciences /Environmental Management on NQF5.
  • ISO14001:2015 and Environmental Laws for Managers' Certificates (advantageous)
  • Registration with SACNASP South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (advantageous)
  • SA Driver’s License

Experience

  • Knowledge of operational processes within the scope of the role.
  • 3-5 years operational experience in Environmental in the Mining industry.
  • Experience with environmental and natural resource issues, particularly mining and land matters.
  • Risk management techniques and critical controls.
  • Leadership tools for implementing a culture of purpose-led highperformance and change.
  • Safety, health and environment, legislative, statutory, and regulatory requirements.

Job Description

Hire Resolve's client is looking for an experienced Environmental consultant to join their team. As an Environmental Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in providing expert advice and guidance on environmental issues to clients, mainly within the mining industry. You will be responsible for undertaking a broad spectrum of environmental consulting work, including EIAs, IWUL applications, environmental auditing and compliance monitoring, mine closure planning and financial provision assessments, environmental risk assessments, development of mitigation strategies and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and complete environmental and social legislative processes to obtain relevant authorizations (Environmental Impact Assessments, Water Use Licensing, Waste Management Licenses, etc.)
  • Compile and write the required reports and other supporting documents for submission to our clients and relevant authorities
  • Conducting environmental compliance auditing
  • Financial Provision Assessments/ Closure Cost Estimates (GN R 1147 and other relevant legislation)
  • Environmental risk identification and management
  • Development of Mine Closure and rehabilitation plan(s)
  • Site Assessments
  • Reporting progress on deliverables in accordance with project schedules; and
  • Assisting with project management functions, including developing project schedules, invoicing, budget management, and proposal development.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Management
  • Post graduate degree in Environmental Management is beneficial
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience within the Environmental Consulting Sector
  • Experience in managing projects and budgets
  • Proficient in MS Office, including MS Excel & MS Word
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills
  • Professional registration (EAPASA, SACNASP)
  • Strong technical skills relating to rehabilitation implementation is beneficial
