We are looking for an experienced Environmental Control Officer to join our team EIMS is providing ECO services to our clients on various large transmission projects at present. The company is growing and we are looking for dynamic and ambitious environmental scientists to grow with us.
You will need the following skills and experience as a minimum:
- Specific ECO or Environmental Compliance Auditing experience in the energy sector.
- Working knowledge of the South African environmental legal framework and requirements.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs.
- Assertiveness and the ability to work well as part of a team.
- Ability to work full-time on-site and in remote areas.
- Code B Drivers license.
- Minimum relevant Bachelors degree from a reputable university.
- And most importantly, a love and extensive knowledge of our rich and complex environment.

Job Purpose
The Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to actively monitor pollution and the management of chemicals through the development of monitoring programmes, the collection and analysis of relevant data and the development of pollution information management systems that supports the Directorate Pollution and Chemicals Management's objectives.
Minimum Requirements
An appropriate 4-year B-Degree/ Honours (equivalent or higher qualification) in natural or physical sciences, environmental management/sciences or engineering field or an equivalent qualification; A minimum of 6 years relevant environmental management experience; A valid (Code B or higher) driving license.

Key Performance Areas
Manage and provide specialist and technical comment, advice and guidance on environmental technical reports (including impact assessment reports) to organs of state and other stakeholders regarding pollution and chemicals management; Develop, implement and manage water quality/pollution and chemicals monitoring and information management projects; Actively engage, support and provide input into transversal initiatives and forums relevant to pollution and chemicals management including implementation of the Western Cape Sustainable Water Protection Plan; Manage financial and human resources within the sub-directorate, including general office management and administration.
Competencies
Knowledge and experience in the following: Environmental Management (that includes integrated environmental management; (Pollution management) and application of environmental legislation; Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement, with respect to statutory obligations (e.g. NEMA); Project planning, implementation and management, including financial management; Interpretation of water quality data and pollution information; Chemicals management and international conventions; Research, data analysis, interpretation and technical/scientific report writing; Analyse, interpret and respond to scientific, technical reports and policy and legislation.
Skills needed: Computer literacy in MS Office Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc); Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Communication (verbal and written); General office and administration; Human Resource Management; Financial Management (budgeting and expenditure control; supply chain management processes); Stakeholder engagement; Problem-solving.
Remuneration
Grade A - R per annum (OSD as prescribed).
Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
