1. Lead Puma Energy's environmental initiatives in the Africa region, driving the implementation of regional strategies to ensure alignment with global objectives

2. Embed Puma Energy’s Environmental Standards across the organization, ensuring compliance.

3. Support the collection, organization and verification of sustainability data within the region to help the organization meet internal and external Sustainability Reporting requirements.

4. Drive performance and growth by defining and implementing regional environmental KPIs in alignment with global requirements, conducting trend analyses, and contributing to internal reporting needs.

5. Provide technical or administrative support for Global Environmental and Sustainability programs or issues.

6. Develop regional Environmental and Sustainability project goals, objectives, initiatives, or strategies in collaboration with other Puma Energy Environmental and Sustainability professionals, considering factors such as cost-effectiveness, technical feasibility, and acceptance.

7. Identify needed resources to implement Environmental and Sustainability programs or manage issues.

8. Design and implement region-specific environmental workplace processes and procedures that help protect workers from potentially hazardous work conditions, and prevent impacts on the environment.

9. Support the Africa region in conducting and reviewing due diligence on brownfield and greenfield projects, acquisitions and mergers, and divestments to ensure full environmental compliance.

10. Responsible for maintaining HSSE networks to effectively deliver and share learnings and best practices internally and externally across the Africa Region in a structured, standard, and auditable manner.

11. Develop and implement training programs to enhance environmental awareness and compliance among employees at all levels of the Africa business.

12. Research or review regulatory, technical, or market issues related to Environment and Sustainability.

13. Ensure Country HSSE Mgrs./ Business Partners and Country Operational Managers are made aware of changes or updates to Environmental Regulations, Codes of Practice, or Puma Energy requirements relevant to their jurisdiction and operations.

14. Assist in evaluating workplace environments, equipment, and practices for the purpose of driving compliance and risk reduction.

15. Review Environmental incidents and non-conformances, identify trends and support in the development and communication of proactive initiatives.

16. Verify that the in-country Operations have identified and documented its environmental aspects and impacts (i.e. Environment Impact Register).

17. Verify that the in-country Operations have developed Environmental Management Plans and Programs to address signficant risks.

18. Conduct peroidic review of the action management system and support in-country teams to meet timeines for close-out of actions.

19. Lead or manage others undertaking ISO 14001 audits across in-country Operations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of environmental data and terminology, good communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's/master's degree in environmental engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline plus tem (10) years of relevant experience in environmental data management or consulting, with hands-on experience in EQuIS, LOCUS EIM, ESDAT, or similar databases or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Expertise and experience with environmental data and database systems (MS SQL Server, MS Access). Expertise with relational databases such as EarthSoft's Environmental Quality Information System (EQuIS) /EIM/ ESdat. Ability to continually analyze data at all stages for problems, logic, and consistency concerning field data collection, analytical reporting, and other expertise on EQUIS sub-tools (Collect, Edge, ArcGIS, highly desirable but not essential).
  • Assist with projects globally and task delivery with high quality and within deadlines. Managing data (geological, Field data, chemical laboratory data) for technical report writing and interpretation as required by the team. Maintaining and updating various project dashboards using the web-based EQuIS Enterprise system; and preparing report-ready data tables, charts, and figures for internal review and external client reports.
  • Project management duties include coordinating field events. Using the sample registry and Sample Planning module, create EDDs and load to EQuIS to track event closure.
  • Proficient in EQuIS Collect Module, create and deploy different categories of forms and train field personnel on the same.
  • Expert level understanding of Office 365, Excel, Power Query & Power Automate.
  • Should be good in Documentation, including Data Management SOPs, Process Maps, Work instructions, Activity Analysis, and Task effort estimation
  • Use of visualization tools like Power BI to help management make effective decisions for the environmental domain is desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of digital tools like Power BI, R Studio, KNIME Analytics, SQL, and Python is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Strong organizational skills, with experience prioritizing, time management, and managing multiple tasks.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
  • Expertise in applying Six-Sigma techniques/analysis to the environmental data management process.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, judgment, and problem-solving capabilities.

Job Description

ProSidian Seeks a Senior Environmental Consulting Specialist (Mining Industry) Contract Contingent) located in Cape Town South Africa to support an engagement for U.S. Govt. International Technical Assistance Program (ITAP) providing assistance on technical, regulatory, environmental, and financial management for national development on a range of energy and non-energy resources. Key Areas of Focus: 1) policy, legal, and regulatory reform; 2) technical, operational, and economic analysis; 3) financial mechanisms and market creation; 4) economic mgmt. , transparency and fiscal policy; 5) environmental impacts and social and community issues related to resource development. ProSidian provides technical assistance and training related to four Capacity Challenges: 1) TECHNICAL understanding of resources and new extractive technologies / techniques 2) FINANCIAL mgmt. of revenues from the sector 3) LEGAL best practices for international laws and regulations 4) ENVIRONMENTAL protectins for people and environment from sector impacts. Typical country stakeholders include: Govt. officials (national, municipal, regional and village levels); Legislators; national, state, and local regulators; communities (inc. vulnerable groups).

Candidates shall work to support requirements as a Senior Environmental Consulting Specialist (Mining Industry) and Provide industry technical expertise, experience, training, and support with Energy, Extractives, and Renewable Energy concerns related to Environmental concerns covering the direct and indirect environmental impacts of energy acquisition, transport, production and use related to and resulting from the Mining Industry. This position requires comprehensive knowledge within various functional areas that meet objectives and ensure compliance with environmental processes, standards, and policies. This position may train and mentor Energy, Extractives, and Renewable Energy stakeholders and provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult and complex problems and support the implementation of overall Environmental Policy, Compliance, and Strategy constructs with tailored solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practical and consistent with the objectives for international, federal, state, and local environmental regulations for the industry.

Work to effectively engage stakeholder/agency professionals and accurately communicate Environmental policy advice, assistance, training, and support goals and objectives. Provide consulting and support to help client stakeholders ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and provide Environmental policy advice, assistance, training, and support on a full range of matters related to the Mining Industry. Assist in the interpretation of applicable environmental regulations and assists in the development, review, and implementation of guidelines, procedures, and processes to ensure successful completion of projects in compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Assigned job duties may support stakeholder Environmental Science functional areas such as sampling, data capture, data analysis/decision support, documentation, report preparation, or related areas
  • Assist in the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure awareness of and compliance with requirements of the project
  • Conducts scientific studies and investigations in accordance with established procedures and apply precedent and standards in analyzing and interpreting data to provide technical guidance to stakeholder field personnel
  • Develop and oversee the use of appropriate procedures and guidelines, review documents for accuracy, and may act as a team lead or technical advisor on small projects
  • Develops solutions to problems encountered and coordinates various technical aspects of work to ensure compliance with all contractual, statutory and regulatory requirements and procedures
  • Prepares, coordinates, or supervises the preparation/completion of technical environmental resource reports, resource agency consultations, environmental permit applications, and acquisition of applicable environmental clearances and approvals
  • Provide Environmental policy advice, assistance, training, and support for compliance programs through inspections of permitted projects, management of stakeholder Environmental Inspection staff, and/or submittal of requisite compliance reports
  • Provide Environmental policy advice, assistance, training, and support for project planning activities to assess and relay applicable environmental permit/approval requirements, and maintain project budgets and schedules
  • Provide Environmental policy advice, assistance, training, and support to assists in the development of, and facilitate presentations and training on, various environmental related topics to the Mining Industry. May train and mentor less experienced professionals
  • Provide technical and/or functional support to stakeholder Environmental Science Teams and prepare, interpret, and/or review correspondence, calculations, proposals, plans, specifications, investigations/studies, surveys, reports, structures, and/or systems
  • Reviews and manages contractor work to ensure services are performed according to applicable environmental specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications

Leadership, Communication, Government financial management, budgeting, financial modeling, reporting, presentations and at least (10) years Management in fields related to Oil, Gas, Extractives with specialty in management and operations, law, geology, policy, valuations, Corporate Finance, M&A, Energy Investments, environmental policy compliance, Energy Development, Energy Infrastructure, Commodities Management, or Natural Resource markets.

The focus of this work shall be in priority regions countries across The Western Hemisphere (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Guyana, Mexico, Panama, and Suriname) | Europe And Eurasia (Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Turkey, Albania, and Ukraine) | In Sub-Saharan Africa (Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Mauritania, Namibia, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tanzania, and South Africa) | In The Middle East And North Africa (Algeria, Jordan, Morocco, and Tunisia) | and In Asia And The Pacific (India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Vietnam, Burma, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka)

The Senior Environmental Consulting Specialist (Mining Industry) shall have Minimum of Ten (10) years of consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five (5) years, Must be able to use a computer to communicate via email; and Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word/Excel/Power point) and related tools and technology required for the position.

  • Bachelor degree in Environmental Science, Geosciences, Natural Resources or related discipline. Master’s degree or Ph.D. is desirable, but not required. A Ph.D. may be substituted for 4 years of experience with a Master’s Degree or 6 years’ experience with a Bachelor’s Degree
  • A training history of appropriate specialized courses and seminars is expected. Technical publications are valued but the in-depth practical experience is paramount.
  • Ability to demonstrate a consistent commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations for the Mining Industry.
  • Ability to demonstrate respect for all individuals, adhere to the ’s values and business practices, and do both consistently.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information, work effectively under pressure, and exercise independent judgment and discretion in dealing with a variety of individuals and situations.
  • Ability to travel up to approximately 25% of the time, including overnight stays, to work or field locations, and to attend meetings, training and conferences/seminars.

  • Demonstrated experience in the development of environmental permit applications and documents relevant to the development of Mining Industry
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to competently represent a variety of settings and various media, including telephone, e-mail and written correspondence.
  • Experience performing environmental permitting and compliance activities within the Mining Industry preferred.
  • Familiarity or experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, such as ArcMap preferred.
  • Maintain knowledge of and demonstrates the ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures and applicable regulations and performs assigned duties in a safe manner
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong problem solving and multi-tasking abilities and show attention to detail.
  • Strong proficiency in the use of personal computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) software. Ability to quickly learn other software.
