Job Purpose
Depending on experience, manage or provide assistance with the management and implementation of projects, with a focus on offshore energy and power projects, including environmental impact assessment process and reporting, public stakeholder participation, authority consultation and project administration. should have the ability to network with clients, problem solve where appropriate, work as part of a team and independently.
Minimum Requirements & Responsibilities
- 5 years plus experience in an environmental consultancy with experience of offshore projects.
- B.Sc. (Hons) or master’s in environmental or Natural sciences or similar qualification
- Must be able to proactively manage elements of an EIA project, liaise with clients, specialists and authorities, manage quality assurance/client feedback and ensure he/she meets budgetary, quality, safety and timeframe targets
- Must have a sound knowledge of environmental legislation and the EIA process.
- Must be able to sustain client and stakeholder relationships.
- Must be able to manage elements of EIA projects.
- Must have worked on projects within South Africa
- Must be a strong team player.
- English speaking with excellent communication skills, additional languages will be advantageous.
- Strong Report Writing Skills
- Strong knowledge of project management (methodology, proposal/ report compilation, budget control, timely completion of projects, write-offs, presentation skills etc.)
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Understanding of multi-disciplinary issues of projects in many disciplines and sectors

Key Responsibilities

- Manage environmental management committee (EMC) requirements:
- Appointing an independent chairperson
- Prepare presentations and present audit report findings, environmental monitoring results and new site developments to EMC
REPORTING AND REVIEWING
- Review reports submitted by consultants and providing comments to consultants
- Provide inputs and compiling information for environmental and other specialist studies related to projects in the division
- Provide inputs into presentations and materials for public participation meetings
- Attend public participation meetings
CONTRACTUAL AND BUDGETARY PLANNING/INPUT
- Manage contracts with consultants
- Ensure alignment with the environmental monitoring and compliance budget and consolidate monthly reconciliations and forecasts
TEAM MANAGEMENT
- Manage Environmental Compliance Officers.
AD HOC
- Any other reasonable ad hoc duty as required or requested by management.
- It should be noted that individuals may need to expand their roles / scope to cover the workload of other employees in times of high workloads or individuals who may be absent from work. This is the sole discretion of management.

MAIN PURPOSE
The Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring organizational adherence to SHE-related regulatory and certification frameworks, including ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management System), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System), POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act), and PAPIA (Promotion of Access to Information Act). Key Responsibilities
SHE Management System Implementation & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain the SHE management system in alignment with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards, ensuring continuous improvement.
- Monitor and evaluate compliance with OHSA, MHSA, and other relevant local, national, and international regulations.
- Ensure compliance with POPIA and PAPIA regarding SHE-related data and documentation.
- Prepare for and conduct internal and external audits for ISO 14001, ISO 45001, POPIA, and PAPIA certifications.
- Identify non-conformities, implement corrective actions, and ensure continuous certification compliance.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential health, safety, and environmental hazards.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to maintain compliance with regulatory and certification requirements.
- Investigate and report workplace incidents and near misses, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct internal compliance audits to verify adherence to ISO standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support external audits by regulatory bodies and certification agencies.
- Ensure compliance with legal and certification requirements, updating policies and procedures as needed.
- Develop and facilitate training programs on SHE certification standards, regulatory updates, and best practices.
- Conduct regular awareness sessions on information security best practices within SHE operations.
- Collaborate with SHE Operations and other departments to integrate safety and environmental considerations into operational processes.
- Serve as the point of contact for SHE compliance inquiries and regulatory discussions.
- Maintain accurate records to demonstrate compliance with SHE certification and legal standards.
- Monitor SHE performance metrics, analyze trends, and prepare reports for management review.

Education
- SO 45001 Lead Auditor or Implementer Certification.

- SAMTRAC or recognized occupational health & safety certification.
- Certification in POPIA compliance and data protection (e.g., Certified Information Privacy Professional – CIPP or equivalent).

**Duties and Responsibilities:**
+ Deliver international projects with a primary focus on Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) to meet international finance institution requirements (e.g. IFC, World Bank) and Equator Principle Standards and delivering local and international (Africa) Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) projects based on IFC and Equator Principles Standards to also meet local and international Lender standards.
+ Key client/account relationship management, participation in marketing and business development activities, and development of ESIA and ESDD proposals.
+ Contribute to and drive the business strategy for the ESIA and ESDD service sector.
+ Where required, provide a support role to the delivery of ESIAs in line with South African and international lender standards, and permit compliance audits in terms South African legal requirements.

**Qualifications**
+ An Honours or higher degree in a relevant environmental and/or social discipline
**Key Competencies and Generic Skills:**
+ 6 years or more experience as an environmental specialist leading and delivering local and international (Africa) ESIA, ESDD and construction/operation E&S monitoring assignments.
+ Professionally Qualified in SACNASP and/or EAPASA.
+ Extensive experience with delivering local and international (Africa) ESDD projects.
+ In depth knowledge of, and the ability to pragmatically apply the international ESG performance standards (IFC, AfDB, EIB Standards, ILO Core Conventions, and the World Bank General and sector specific EHS Guidelines etc.)
+ Demonstrable project experience in several of the following sectors: conventional and renewable power generation and transmission, road and rail infrastructure, water treatment, supply and distribution, ports and marine infrastructure, mining, oil and gas, and industrial manufacturing facilities.
+ General knowledge of a wide range of environmental and social sub-disciplines (i.e. air quality, ecological impact, occupational health and safety, social & resettlement planning, labour practices etc.)
+ Strong experience in Sub Saharan Africa (outside of South Africa) and ability to travel.
+ Strong technical report writing skills, producing professional reports in fluent English.
+ Strong project management skills.
+ Comfortable to engage in client-facing business development.
**Additional Requirements:**
Strong preference will be given to:
+ Candidates with experience with international ESDDs and, ESIAs
+ Candidates with financial sector client exposure.
+ Candidates with experience in mining, renewable energy and/or infrastructure projects.
