- Infection Control
- Practice strict hand hygiene before and after care.
- Clean and change ventilator tubing, humidifier chambers, and suction catheters according to protocol.
- Keep the home environment sterile around the ventilator.
- Documentation & Communication
- Record observations, suctioning episodes, ventilator checks, and patient's condition.
- Report promptly to RN or physician if there are changes or complications.
- Communicate with family/caregivers about daily progress.
- Emergency Preparedness
- Know how to disconnect and use a manual resuscitation bag if the ventilator fails.
- Recognize and respond quickly to signs of distress (blocked tracheostomy, low oxygen, equipment failure).
- Call emergency services if required.
