We are actively seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Resident Engineer/Engineers Representative (Renewable Energy). In this position, you will join our Transport business on a fixed-term contract employment basis, where you will play an integral part in a team of highly skilled specialists that ‘bring ideas to life’ for our clients across all types of transport-related projects.

The projects will entail providing Professional Services as the Owners Engineer for the Construction phase of Renewable Energy Projects. These projects are located in Limpopo and Free State provinces and will require support for Balance of Plant for a period between 6 and 12 months.

Here are the key things you will do to ‘bring ideas to life’:

  • This role will report to the Civil Lead Engineer as the Engineers Representative.
  • Operate independently and strictly according to the requirements of the contract.
  • Monitor and report all activities on the construction site.
  • Ensure that the project is constructed in accordance with the approved construction drawings, schedule, and specifications, and document these activities accordingly.
  • Monitor and support reviews, material inspections, and safety inspections.
  • Monitor and support quality assurance on site and time frame management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum Certificate NTS (1,2,3) in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years post-graduate experience in Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering works, preferably in the renewable energy field.

Preference will be given to Applicants who possess:

  • At least eight (8) years’ experience as Resident Engineer/Engineers Representative on Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering Renewable energy.

SUMMARY:

POSITION INFO:

The Process Safety Design Engineer is responsible for developing and integrating process safety strategies and engineering solutions into facility designs, ensuring compliance with international safety standards and reducing operational risk across oil & gas facilities. This role involves working across multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compliant, and cost-effective engineering solutions in both greenfield and brownfield projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support process safety design activities across project lifecycle stages (conceptual, FEED, detailed design).
  • Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL studies.
  • Develop and maintain safety documentation including Bow-Tie diagrams, safety philosophies, Cause & Effect charts, and fire & explosion risk assessments (FERA).
  • Design and specify safety systems such as ESD, fire and gas detection, relief systems, and pressure protection devices.
  • Perform quantitative risk assessments (QRA), dispersion modeling, and consequence analysis.
  • Ensure designs meet local and international codes and standards (API, IEC, NFPA, ISO, OSHA, etc.).
  • Support development and review of Safety Cases, SIMOPS plans, and emergency response plans.
  • Interface with process, piping, instrumentation, mechanical and civil engineers for integrated safety solutions.
  • Participate in design reviews (3D model reviews, P&ID reviews, constructability and operability reviews).
  • Provide technical input to procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field.
  • Postgraduate training in Process Safety Engineering (preferred).
  • Professional Engineering Registration (e.g., PrEng, CEng, PE) is advantageous.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of process safety design principles and risk assessment techniques.
  • Proficiency in process simulation tools and safety analysis software (e.g., PHAST, PIPENET, DNV GL, PHA-Pro).
  • Familiarity with international oil & gas safety regulations and standards.
  • Ability to interpret and develop PFDs, P&IDs, and engineering drawings.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and report writing skills.
  • Highly analytical with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to operational integrity and safety.

Experience:

  • 5–10 years of experience in process safety and risk management within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or energy sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in design and review of safety systems for upstream, midstream, or downstream facilities.

They are currently expanding their team of Software Engineers to help architect and develop the company’s next-generation software platform—powering a suite of high-performance, distributed telecommunication applications.

We are looking for passionate and experienced Software Engineers to join this innovative team. You will work with cutting-edge technologies to design and build scalable, distributed backend systems.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Electronic Engineering.
  • Experience:
    • Mid-level roles: Minimum of 2+ years of relevant software development experience.
    • Senior roles: 7+ years of relevant experience, with a solid foundation in Computer Science or Engineering.
Key Technical Focus

  • Strong backend development skills using Go, Java, or C++.
  • Experience with event-driven systems, particularly Kafka.
  • API development experience using gRPC.

Support includes the use of project management software, the development, production and maintenance of plans (including time, resource, cost and exception plans), the tracking and reporting of progress and performance of one or more ICT projects (including those performed by third parties under contract), the maintenance of programme and/or project files, the analysis of performance and the maintenance of metric data and estimating models, and the administration of project change control, including use of configuration management systems.

What will make you successful in this role?

  • Provide administration support to Project Manager/s and Project teams which includes minute-taking, diary management, meeting scheduling & preparation
  • Execute on the PMO continuous improvement plan by compiling updates on project reports.
  • Optimal usage of PPO and other PMO Toolsets across all agreed functionalities and features. Incl. Updating issue, Risk & dependency logs.
  • Effective Stakeholder engagement throughout project lifecycle.
  • Continuous collaboration with Towers and Clients
  • Adhere to Service Management procedures and protocol & to Project Management governance as agreed by Steerco or relevant Project Forum
  • Project budget & Financial management: Track project budget, Reports, Projections, Invoicing, query resolution
  • Ensure accurate Time Management of project resources.
  • Handle Hardware/Software/Stationery requests on the project.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12
  • Relevant accredited courses (relevant diploma an advantage)

Experience:

  • At least 3 years job-related experience in formal project administration (IT software development projects beneficial)

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Solid understanding of a project’s life cycle and project methodology
  • Strong administration skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Project tools: Excel, PowerPoint, Word & MS Project, JIRA

The Opportunity

Our South Africa team is seeking a strategic, experienced OE & PMC Lead to join our dynamic team working on innovative and exciting energy infrastructure projects in Africa. This is a rare opportunity to build and lead a team in a high-priority growth area for Arup, with strong backing from global and regional leadership.

This position is based in Johannesburg or Cape Town.

Responsibilities

You will have deep experience in one or more technical areas – such as leading multi-disciplinary teams in winning and delivery of energy projects – and a proven track record of cultivating long-term client relationships, securing impactful work, positioning an energy business for strategic growth and delivering projects successfully. Build and maintain client relationships with IPPs, Mining Companies, public agencies, and contractors.

Lead and manage Owner’s Engineer, Design (utility scale renewable energy plants or transmission 132kV) and PMC roles, ensuring delivery of projects to time, budget and quality expectations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Masters would be an advantage. Professionally registered with ECSA (Pr.Eng).
  • Project Management qualification would be preferred.
  • Proven years of experience in large scale energy infrastructure, with significant experience in Owner’s Engineer, Design (utility scale renewable energy plants or transmission 132kV) and PMC roles.
  • Proven track record in leading large-scale energy projects (e.g., renewables, transmission, hybrid systems). Strong understanding of Africa’s energy sector, regulatory environment and delivery models.
  • Have built and maintained strong relationships in Energy industry.
  • Excellent technical leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
