We are looking for a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team. A Data Center Engineering Operations Technician role is a hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operation responder. If you like to use apply your electrical and mechanical skills to solve problems, we'd like to meet you. Your work will help to maintain one of the world's largest information system infrastructures.
Key job responsibilities
SAFETY
Follow and maintain the highest safety standards and diligently encourage a world-class safety culture. As a facility owner team, ensure remediation of safety risks/issues in conjunction with other teams. Own the safety initiatives and projects to foster strong safety culture.
ENGINEERING & FACILITY OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE
- Operational experience and familiarity with electrical and mechanical equipment, including Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS's), Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS's), Diesel Generators, Chillers, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), Exhaust Fans, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's), and Transformers.
- Troubleshoot events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA's)
- Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log-taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.)
- Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance
- Manual handling and lifting of equipment may be required (weight limits in accordance with health & safety regulations).
- Ability to work shifts

This will encompass functions that ensure the smooth running of the production area by providing support when technical difficulties are encountered, alternate component sourcing, resolution to product reliability issues, etc. The job will also entail short-term developments to existing products in line with customer requirements and feature enhancements.
The successful incumbent will be responsible for:
- Technical support.
- Production support.
- Product testing and evaluation.
- Technical documentation.
- Alternate component sourcing and evaluation.
Requirements of the Candidate:
- Minimum of a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering L/C (or equivalent).
- 2 years (ideally) work experience.
- Good understanding of microcontroller-based digital systems.
- Good understanding of analogue components and circuits.
- Be a logical problem solver and be able to explain problems and solutions clearly.
- Have basic soldering skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Be a self-motivated and self-disciplined worker.
Advantageous for the Candidate:

Our client is seeking a degree qualified Engineering Manager with experience managing engineering maintenance for group operations across international mining sites to join their team, based out of Gauteng.
Responsibilities :
- Providing engineering support to group operations internationally, with a focus across Africa.
- Deployment and standardization of the maintenance management system.
- Instilling best practice safety standards and procedures across operations.
- Ensuring quality and service objectives are achieved through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Carrying out maintenance gap analyses and operational audits.
- Reporting as required.
- Technical lead for maintenance management across company operations.
- Serve as a reliability subject matter expert for condition monitoring requirements and audits.
- Ensuring world class standards for engineering maintenance are achieved, retaining and growing the client base in doing so.
- Evaluating maintenance strategies to ensure effective design and implementation across sites.
- Budgeting and cost control, reducing costs where possible.
Requirements : Qualification and Skill
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a similar relevant field.
- 15 years’ experience in engineering management for mining operations and mineral processing, with at least 5 years at group management level across international operations.
- Proven expertise in implementing upgraded processes and maintenance management systems.
- Strong CMMS experience and computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
- Well-versed in lean methodologies, statistical analysis and automated systems.
- Professional registration advantageous.
- Well-versed in legal compliance and global best practice for safety standards.
- Excellent communication, problem identification and solving and analytical skills.
- Asset and project management experience.
