The ideal candidate will play a critical role in the preconstruction phase, preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for solar and wind installations across commercial, industrial, and utility-scale markets.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for renewable energy projects, including solar PV, wind farms, battery storage, and EV charging infrastructure
• Analyse drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labour estimates
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, procurement, and subcontractors to develop complete and competitive bids
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and evaluate project risks

• Maintain a database of unit costs and historical pricing for future project use
• Assist in bid reviews, proposal development, and value engineering exercises

Requirements:

• BTech/BSc degree in Quantity Surveying/Construction Management or similar
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in construction estimating work with at least 5 years’ proven experience in the renewable energy sector
• Strong understanding of renewable energy systems and components (e.g., PV modules, inverters, racking systems, wind turbines, battery storage)
• Proficiency in relevant software packages including CCS, Bluebeam, and MS Office
• Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates under tight deadlines

We are seeking a dedicated HR Practitioner to support one of our international client’s dynamic renewable energy projects portfolios.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering HR services, ensuring HR compliance, workforce readiness, and effective stakeholder engagement.

Duties & Responsibilities

Workforce Planning & Mobilisation

Collaborate with Project Managers and TES providers to plan, source, and deploy project-specific labour

Ensure onboarding, induction, and site compliance processes are completed smoothly

Monitor labour movement across phases (construction, commissioning, O&M)

Employee Relations & Compliance

Manage site-level employee relations, ensuring compliance with BCEA, LRA, and applicable bargaining councils

Address grievances, disciplinary cases, and conflict resolution promptly

Support audits and site inspections (DOL, ISO, client-specific)

HR Administration & Reporting

Maintain accurate site HR records and personnel files

Submit statutory and internal HR reports (EE, skills, headcount, etc.)

Coordinate leave, timesheet approvals, and payroll inputs in collaboration with central HR

Training & Development

Identify skills gaps and assist with site-based training coordination

Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with training matrix and health & safety induction

About the Role

We are seeking a Construction Manager with proven expertise in renewable energy infrastructure to lead on-site construction activities for a utility-scale solar PV project. Based in De Aar, the successful candidate will play a central role in coordinating cross-functional teams, maintaining safety and quality compliance, and ensuring timely delivery within budget.

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution & Oversight

• Oversee daily site construction activities and ensure adherence to technical specifications

• Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of construction schedules and deliverables

• Supervise contractors, technicians, and site staff to ensure safe and efficient operations

Safety & Quality Assurance

• Enforce compliance with safety protocols, site rules, and relevant legislation

• Conduct toolbox talks, site inspections, and quality checks

• Resolve on-site quality issues and monitor installation performance

Stakeholder Engagement

• Liaise with engineers, consultants, contractors, clients, and local authorities

• Process contractor claims, change orders, and payment certificates

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management , Civil/Electrical Engineering , or similar

• 7+ years of construction management experience (minimum 3 years in renewable energy )

• OR: Diploma + 15 years’ relevant project/construction experience

• Strong knowledge of solar PV , wind , or battery storage systems

• Proven track record in leading large-scale EPC or IPP construction projects

• Excellent leadership, team coordination, and stakeholder communication skills

• Proficient in project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, etc.)

Introduction

The Plant-Based Grid Engineer will be based on-site at utility-scale solar farms and wind farms, focusing on the implementation and operational aspects of grid connection. The role ensures that all electrical systems are constructed, commissioned, and operated in compliance with Eskom’s grid requirements, South African Grid Code, and applicable safety standards. The engineer will work closely with construction teams, contractors, and utility field engineers to achieve timely and compliant grid integration under the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPP).

Duties & Responsibilities

• On-Site Grid Connection Management: Oversee construction of interconnection infrastructure, including HV substations and transmission lines, ensuring timely energization, budget adherence, and quality standards.

• Utility Coordination & Commissioning: Liaise with Eskom and contractors during grid tie-in and commissioning. Schedule outages, inspections, and compliance tests to ensure seamless integration into the national grid.

• Grid Code Compliance: Ensure compliance with all South African Grid Code requirements (fault ride-through, voltage/frequency control, protection settings). Supervise and validate grid compliance testing, implementing corrective actions where required.

• Equipment Monitoring & Testing: Test and monitor HV/MV equipment, transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and SCADA systems to ensure reliability and correct implementation of protection schemes and metering.

• Troubleshooting & Support: Identify and resolve grid-related issues during commissioning and operation (e.g., trips, power quality deviations, curtailment). Lead root cause analysis and coordinate corrective measures.

• Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with office-based grid engineers and EPC contractors to ensure accurate execution of design. Provide feedback and suggest modifications where necessary.

• Reporting & Documentation: Maintain site records, progress reports, and compliance documentation (as-builts, test results, compliance certificates) for handover.

• Safety & Quality Assurance: Uphold OHS Act requirements and utility safety standards, promoting a safety culture with zero compromise on quality or safety.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Education: BSc/BEng in Electrical Engineering (focus on power systems or heavy current). A BTech with significant experience will be considered.

• Experience: 5+ years in utility-scale renewable energy projects (≥30 MW), with proven experience in construction, commissioning, or operation of grid connections.

• Professional Registration: Registration with ECSA (Pr.Eng/Pr.Tech Eng) highly advantageous.

• Utility Interface: Experience engaging with Eskom or other utilities on grid access processes, including CEL/BQ applications and HV/MV substation standards.

• HV Equipment Expertise: Strong background in installation, testing, and commissioning of HV/MV equipment (transformers, breakers, isolators, relay schemes).

• Grid Code Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the South African Grid Code, NERSA regulations, and compliance testing procedures.

Industry Knowledge & Alignment

• Strong understanding of REIPPP requirements and Eskom grid regulations.

• Familiarity with achieving commercial operation dates and compliance milestones under strict timelines.

Preferred Certifications & Standards

Requirements:

• Proven experience managing renewable energy projects, with a strong focus on Solar PV.
• Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of project management experience in the energy sector.
