Although we've been predominantly in the C&I space, our largest signed deal right now is a PPA for a mine (Solar: 132MWp + BESS: 360MWh + 45km 132kV line). We're urgently seeking a Project Manager to inject some serious project maturity into our operations, with a laser focus on our flagship utility project for a mine in Phalaborwa. This isn't just a job – it's a chance to lead real impact in a business that's all about innovation and getting things done.

What we're after (essentials first):

• South African citizen
• Solid formal project management skills
• Over 5 years in the industry – bonus if you've got a proven track record on utility projects
• Knowledge of BESS projects? That'll give you an edge
• Deep understanding of Eskom and municipal SSEG processes, especially for utility-scale (think CEL and Eskom BQ)
• Ace with Microsoft tools, including MS Project
• Familiarity with software like AutoCAD, Helioscope, PVsyst, or Homer? Even better
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans
• Your own wheels for getting around
• Happy to work off-site, particularly in Phalaborwa

The Opportunity

There is an opportunity to offer a wide project management and project control offering to our clients, to the technical owners engineering service. As a start, we are looking for project managers who can offer a range of skills from stakeholder, human, integration, scope, risk management, cost management, time, procurement, communication, design, construction, health & safety, quality management & environment management across the project life cycle. As we built confidence, we will grow this team with specific project control functions to offer a range of services on large projects across different sectors.

This position is based in Johannesburg or Cape Town.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

• Develop detailed project execution plans to ensure successful delivery of projects. Work collaboratively with the Client and Arup team. Manage and coordinate the integration of technical activities to enable Arup to achieve its objectives.
• Ensure projects deliverables comply with design standards, legal regulations, environmental standards, and necessary permits. Identify potential project risks and devise mitigation strategies. Maintain relationships with stakeholders, including governments, local communities, suppliers, contractors, and team members.
• Ensure Arup delivers quality services to our clients. Implement quality control measures to ensure project standards and performance objectives are met. Oversee and report on the project's progress to senior management and stakeholders.

• Technical knowledge in the energy sector. Ability to consult with others to develop the level of knowledge required for the role. Utilise the company's knowledge network to adopt best practices in approach to work. Identify own training and development needs, ways to meet these needs and share knowledge with others. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Capable of prioritising and managing own workload using appropriate tools. Acknowledges and acts upon the need for additional support from team members.
• Articulate, providing clear explanations of ideas, job procedures etc. to others. Capable of working well with people at all levels. Ability to involve all members of the team in delivering objectives; professionals and support staff.
• Proactive in showing others how things are done in order to improve the operation of the team.
