Your Key Responsibilities Will Include
- Develop detailed project execution plans to ensure successful delivery of projects. Work collaboratively with the Client and Arup team. Manage and coordinate the integration of technical activities to enable Arup to achieve its objectives.
- Ensure projects deliverables comply with design standards, legal regulations, environmental standards, and necessary permits. Identify potential project risks and devise mitigation strategies. Maintain relationships with stakeholders, including governments, local communities, suppliers, contractors, and team members.
- Ensure Arup delivers quality services to our clients. Implement quality control measures to ensure project standards and performance objectives are met. Oversee and report on the project's progress to senior management and stakeholders.

Opportunity Origination, Development & Execution
- Originate, structure, and execute renewable energy projects or transactions, working closely with internal specialists.
- Lead or support the full project lifecycle, from Non-Disclosure Agreements and due diligence through to financial close, including site procurement, permitting and consents, project structuring, financing, and negotiation of key agreements (PPA, EPC, O&M, Tx, MSAs).
- Conduct financial projections, sensitivity analyses, and risk assessments.
- Build, review, and refine financial models to evaluate project viability and inform investment decisions.
- Participate in bid preparation, responses to RFPs, and commercial negotiations.
- Contribute to achieving ~400 MW of projects to financial close annually, subject to pipeline and grid availability.

Functional Excellence & Subject Matter Expertise
- Standardise and simplify functional processes, ensuring compliance with governance, risk, and regulatory frameworks.
- Maintain advanced knowledge of project finance structures, contracts, and industry standards (PPAs, EIAs, guarantees, direct agreements).
- Provide proactive advice and thought leadership to business stakeholders.
- Mentor Analysts in financial modelling and due diligence, ensuring knowledge transfer and capability development.

Stakeholder Engagement & Networks
- Cultivate strong working relationships with developers, sponsors, financiers, government authorities, Eskom, and consultants (legal, technical, environmental).
- Build networks to generate new investment opportunities and strengthen the organisation's presence in the energy landscape.
- Represent the company as a credible partner in negotiations and external forums.

Financial Management
- Monitor financial performance for assigned projects/transactions against budget, flagging risks and opportunities.
- Support capital raising processes (debt and equity) and review financing documentation.
Requirements
Experience Required:
- 5–10 years' experience in project finance within the power sector, with strong exposure to renewable energy.
- Direct experience with top-tier investment banks, advisory firms, private equity, IPPs, or international developers.
- Proven track record of originating and executing renewable energy transactions to financial close.
- Experience negotiating financing documentation and key project agreements (PPA, EPC, O&M, shareholder agreements).
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and interact with senior stakeholders.
Technical Requirements:
- BCom (Hons) Economics/Finance, or BSc (Hons) Engineering.
- Management Development Programme or equivalent leadership qualification
- MBA or equivalent postgraduate degree (desirable).
- Strong financial modelling skills, including the ability to build models from scratch (highly preferred)
