About The Position
As a lead member of the EMEA Solutions team at Energy Exemplar, the ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of expertise in power market fundamentals, energy system modelling, and market analysis. This role is suited for someone who is passionate about the evolving electricity sector and understands how modelling and data-driven insights inform decision-making across utilities, system operators, regulators, and other market participants.
This is a unique opportunity to work closely with leading energy organisations, helping them unlock the full potential of Energy Exemplar's advanced modelling tools and shaping the future of power systems and electricity markets across the EMEA region
This Role Has Two Primary Objectives
- Deliver tailored support and solutions: Collaborate with customers to ensure PLEXOS effectively supports a wide range of power market applications from long-term capacity expansion and policy evaluation to short-term operational planning and reliability analysis.
- Support business development and thought leadership in the power sector: Generate market insights, deliver technical demonstrations, and provide domain expertise during the sales process to promote the adoption of PLEXOS across organisations involved in electricity market planning, operations, and policy.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with utilities, system operators, regulators, and developers to design and deliver advanced electricity market models using PLEXOS.
- Gather and analyse customer requirements to tailor modelling solutions for applications such as price forecasting, capacity expansion, and operational planning.
- Build, test, and calibrate models to provide accurate, data-driven insights supporting planning, regulatory compliance, and market analysis.
- Deliver training, technical workshops, and demonstrations to help customers effectively use PLEXOS for their strategic and operational needs.
- Support business development through proof-of-concept studies and expert engagement during pre-sales activities.
- Create technical proposal documents and respond to RFI's/RFP's.
- Contribute to thought leadership by conducting market research and producing original insights on emerging trends like renewables integration, energy storage, and grid flexibility.
- Present studies at conferences and/or EE sponsored webinars.
- Provide feedback to the product team based on customer needs and evolving market requirement
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of electricity and power markets
- Expertise in energy market modelling and optimisation tools (e.g. PLEXOS, BID3, Antares, SDDP, PROMOD)
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic are essential, as the role involves engaging with stakeholders across MENA and international regions.
- Confident presenter with strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual collaboration tools
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks
- Self-motivated, results-driven, and quality-focused
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport and influence across teams
- Fast learner with a strong drive for professional growth
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Energy Economics, Operations Research, or a related discipline (with focus on electricity systems or markets)
- 5–7 years' experience in energy markets, including knowledge of market fundamentals, system operations, and/or engineering
- Hands-on experience with mathematical optimisation or energy modelling software

Role Responsibilities
- Leading and conducting a variety of studies, including generation expansion planning, renewable generation and storage optimisation, technology selection and optimisation, market analysis, operational planning, demand and supply analysis, and integrated resource planning,
- Supporting and expanding our energy advisory service offerings by leveraging prior experience and assessing emerging trends and opportunities,
- Developing and recommending best practices for model design and strategic development,
- Presenting project information, outcomes, and findings to clients and stakeholders across sectors,
- Contributing to the development and execution of project and study scopes,
- Compiling and reviewing technical reports, engineering simulations, and calculations, and providing independent evaluations for clients.
Minimum Requirements
- A degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is required, with a strong preference for candidates specialising in energy modelling and analysis,
- Professional registration with ECSA is advantageous,
- Proven experience engaging with clients and stakeholders in a professional setting,
- Minimum of 4 to 8 years of relevant experience in energy system modelling or advisory work,
- High proficiency in energy simulation tools such as PLEXOS, OSeMOSYS, HOMER, PyPSA, or similar platforms,
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities within the energy sector,
- A sound understanding of ongoing market reform in South Africa and the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), including associated market design and trading principles, would be beneficial,
