Job Description

Department:
Energy

Location:
Africa

Description
Allied Talent Partners (ATP), a Three Cairns Group initiative, is a mission-driven, not-for-profit talent marketplace focused on solving the human capital bottlenecks slowing down sustainable development efforts in emerging economies, with an initial focus on Africa. ATP connects vetted, experienced, context-relevant professionals to high-impact opportunities in energy access and sustainable development – strengthening local capacity and fuelling economic vitality. We specialize in fixed-term, deliverable-driven engagements – from interim leadership and generalist projects to niche technical expertise – handling project scoping, talent vetting and matching, contracting, payroll, and compliance so that our clients can focus on impact.

High-Level Overview

Client:
The client is a leading Africa-focused infrastructure investment manager raising a $200–$50 million energy transition fund dedicated to clean electrons, clean molecules, and sustainable transport. The fund targets 8–10 transactions, including 2–3 flagship electric mobility investments, with typical ticket sizes of $15– 30 million.

In electric mobility, the focus is on scaling B2B fleet management platforms – primarily asset-heavy, contracted models – serving businesses and governments. Target segments include 2/3 wheelers, 4-wheelers, trucks, and buses. These platforms may offer integrated solutions across the value chain, including vehicle provision, servicing, insurance, charging infrastructure, and potentially driver or rider management.

Project:
The fund is seeking a Strategic Sector Advisor to play an informal, light-touch role during capital raising and pipeline development – bringing deep operational insight and international best practice to shape investment theses and assess opportunities. This is not a full-time or fundraising role; however, the advisor may be featured in investor materials, participate in occasional calls with the investment team, and review early pipeline opportunities.

Over time, and depending on pipeline maturity, the advisor may be engaged for paid consulting during due diligence, commercial structuring, and execution, with potential for ongoing non-executive board roles across the life of selected investments.

This role is ideally suited for a senior professional or semi-retired executive seeking to remain engaged with frontier innovation and contribute to the early shaping of Africa's EV investment ecosystem. The advisor's contributions will directly support the fund's ability to establish credibility, shape its EV strategy, and execute high-quality transactions over time.

Role and Responsibilities
Role:
Electric Mobility Advisor
Direct Report:
Client's Investment Team

Candidates Required:
1
**Key Deliverables:

Phase 1: Fundraising & Pipeline Shaping (informal engagement)**

  • Provide strategic input on fund positioning, sector focus, and early investment theses within the electric mobility space
  • Offer insight on market trends, value chain evolution, and business model innovations in the global EV space
  • Offer insight on the operational aspects of growing EV companies with lessons learned from other markets
  • Participate in occasional calls with potential investees during internal screening and high level reviews of datarooms
  • Allow inclusion of CV/biography in fundraising materials and pitch decks

Estimated time commitment: Initial onboarding (2–3 hours reviewing fund materials and participating in an introductory call), followed by ad-hoc engagement such as joining one call every two weeks, reviewing select data rooms, and providing strategic input. No travel expected during Phase 1.

Phase 2: Deal Execution (paid consulting engagements)

  • Join select due diligence teams when transactions progress to IC approval and budgets are unlocked
  • Advise on commercial structuring, market fit, and risks specific to the African EV context
  • Support investment decision-making with practical, hands-on input
  • Potential for ongoing non-executive board roles during the life of the investment, subject to mutual agreement.

Requirements
Experience Required:

  • 10–15+ years in the broader mobility or logistics sectors, including at least 3–5 years in the electric mobility space – particularly in fleet management and infrastructure for 2/3 wheelers, 4-wheelers, trucks, and buses. Other relevant segments will also be considered.
  • Experience in integrated B2B business models across the value chain, including vehicle provision, servicing, insurance, and potentially driver/rider management.
  • Demonstrated operational experience in scaling businesses (e.g., courier, logistics, or fleet operations)
  • Previous experience working with or advising companies, investment platforms or infrastructure funds
  • Experience in emerging markets (Asia, Latin America, etc.); paired with familiarity with the unique challenges and opportunities shaping e-mobility in Africa
  • Experience with leading EV fleet operators or investors in developing markets (e.g., Sun Mobility, Lithium Urban Technologies, Eversource Capital), or similar PE-backed mobility infrastructure businesses.

Technical Requirements:

  • Strong grasp of EV business models, economics, and scale-up strategies
  • Understanding of related value chains, including charging, storage, energy integration, and vehicle finance
  • Ability to evaluate early-stage companies and guide investment theses from a commercial and impact lens

Other Skills:

  • Collaborative style suited to informal and trust-based engagement
  • Comfortable providing flexible, occasional support without a formal retainer
  • Strong communicator with the ability to offer grounded, pragmatic advice
  • Passionate about advancing sustainable mobility and infrastructure in Africa

**Working Arrangement

Location:

Terms of agreement
Phase 1: Informal, unpaid engagement during capital raising and early screening (up to November 2025)

Phase 2: Paid consulting engagements during transaction due diligence and execution, and potential for ongoing non-executive board roles during the life of the investment subject to availability and mutual agreement (To be scoped based on transactions)
