Job Summary:
To plan, monitor, coordinate and oversee the Unit's operations and processes to ensure quality patient care and the overall running of the unit including but not limited to managing the ward clerks, RN, EN and ENA's roles and responsibilities. Take responsibility for the mentoring, coaching, training and development of nursing staff and managing the Unit budget and ensuring cost saving and stakeholder engagement.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- B. Cur in General Nursing
- Trauma / Critical Care qualification
- BLS qualification
- Nursing Administration
- Business Management qualification advantageous.
- Updated ACLS/PALS/ATLS advantageous.
- 3+ years' experience at a managerial/supervisory level.
- Experienced in Emergency Nursing
- Experience within a private hospital environment advantageous
- Current registration with South African Nursing Council.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Perform all duties in accordance with the South African Nursing Council (SANC), Department of Health (DOH) and National Core Standards.
- Adhere to the principles and standards of Patient Advocacy according to SANC Acts and Omissions, Company Code of Conduct, Patient rights and Responsibility Charter., National Millennium Development goals and responsibility of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
- Plan and organise multiple work outputs by assigning tasks and priorities and continuously reviewing objectives and goals in line with the Unit standards.
- Plan, organise, supervise and assess quality nursing standards and ensure efficient and effective execution of the required tasks.
- Accumulate information to report on work progress and use for decision making purposes and the identification of improvement opportunities.
- Translate and drive adherence to the relevant regulatory principles and standards across the unit as set out by the SANC and other regulatory bodies.
- Act as the liaison between nurses and other departments, whilst engaging with relevant stakeholders to ensure operational efficiencies are coordinated to improve overall effectiveness of unit activities in line with hospital requirements.
- Optimise nurse responsiveness with regards to emergency as the hospital's first point of contact in cases of emergency patient admissions
- Manage the emergency department's resource allocation and schedules in line with hospital's policy and standards to ensure all incoming and outgoing patients are attended to efficiently.
- Manage ward clerks, RNs, RNAs as well as ENAs within area of accountability and drive service optimisation.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
To provide quality care to patients in need of dialysis. Collaborate as a team to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Acute Clinical Technologist will be responsible for:
- Communication of clinical information with patients and their relatives.
- Execution of prescribed treatments.
- Refer newly diagnosed patients to appropriate dialysis facilities in their vicinity, ensuring the receiving clinic is provided with the patient information to ensure continuity of care.
- Monitor new vascular access for bleeding, bruit and other complications and report to Clinician.
- Adverse events and deviations from treatment prescriptions to Clinician and line manager
- Report changes in patient progress effectively.
- Communication with all staff to ensure patient treatments are carried out according to prescriptions.
- Monitor and react on incoming lines of communication (email, text messages, voice calls etc.)
- Inspect equipment for faults and report to technical department
- Ensuring Acute equipment is being stored correctly and disinfected regularly (plugged in to prevent dead battery)
- Educate patients and family members.
- Educate nursing staff in hospitals on management and care of renal patients.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- National Senior Certificate (Matric)
- Clinical Technologist: Nephrology Qualification
- Valid SANC / HPCSA registration
- ACLS and BLS Certification
- Computer literate
- Minimum 4 years dialysis experience
- Must have own transport and valid driver's license.
