The Role: Electrical Design Engineer
You'll play a critical role in the design and execution of control and automation systems, from initial concept to final commissioning. The role involves producing accurate electrical designs, working closely with various internal and external stakeholders, and contributing to project success with technical input and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design motor control centers (MCCs), PLC, and control systems

• Produce drawings using AutoCAD Electrical and E-Plan

• Generate QC documentation, IO lists, cable schedules, and parts lists

• Liaise with the Engineering Manager on design alignment and quality

• Collaborate with suppliers, clients, workshop, and installation teams

• Support project tracking with basic project management tasks

• Perform red-lining and support the build and installation phases

About You

• National Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics

• 1 - 2 years of experience using AutoCAD Electrical and E-Plan

• Solid understanding of electrical panel building

• Practical knowledge of motor control and PLC design

• Strong communication and collaboration skills

• Detail-oriented with a proactive, problem-solving mindset

• Basic project management experience is a plus

Electrical Design Engineer
to support the design and delivery of critical infrastructure projects across South Africa.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing electrical system designs (MV/LV), coordinating with civil and mechanical teams, and interfacing with
Eskom and local utilities
to ensure reliable power supply. You'll also contribute to implementing energy-efficient and resilient solutions that meet the region's growing demand for sustainable data center capacity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce and review electrical designs, single-line diagrams, and load calculations
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams through concept, design, and commissioning phases
• Liaise with Eskom and local municipalities on MV/HV connections and approvals
• Ensure compliance with SANS standards, safety regulations, and client specifications
• Support optimization for power usage effectiveness (PUE) and system resilience

Requirements:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• Proven experience in data center or mission-critical facility design
• Knowledge of MV/LV systems, UPS, generators, and power distribution networks
• Familiarity with SANS codes and experience working with Eskom is highly desirable
• Proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD or ETAP is advantageous

Purpose of the Job

Ceenex is seeking a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

• Completing the design and implementation of electric distribution and protection systems for process plants.
• Conducting engineering designs under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
• Creating designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings in the Engineering Field.
• Collecting and analysing data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
• Using computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
• Performing work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.

Qualifications & Experience:

• BSc/BEng Electrical from an accredited university or equivalent.
• A minimum of 5 years' experience in the relevant design field.
• Telecommunication experience will be advantageous.
• Experience in water and wastewater treatment plants design is advantageous.
• Registration with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) would be an advantage. If such registration is not in place a timeline for such registration must be agreed.

Skills and Knowledge:

• The candidate must indicate experience with the following software's: AutoCAD, TeleCAD GIS (Advantageous), QGIS, Building Information Modelling (i.e. BIM 360), , MS Co-Pilot, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Projects.
• Strong understanding of telecom network planning principles and standards.
• Proficiency in network planning tools and software (e.g., QGIS, Python, TeleCAD GIS).
• In-depth knowledge of fibreoptic system architectures (advantageous).
• Expertise in link budget calculations and propagation modelling.
• Experience with electrical design including System Integration, Electrical Design, Control and Monitoring, Safety and Compliance and Optimization and Efficiency.
• Integrate PLCs for advanced control and automation of motor operations.
• Design efficient power distribution systems to manage and control multiple motors.
• Incorporate HMIs for real-time monitoring and control of motor conditions.
• Optimize energy usage to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Exercise a high level of EQ and showcase resilience.
• Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in the telecom industry.
