Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced, innovative Learning and Development (L&D) Coach to join our dynamic team within a highly regulated, global financial services business. This role requires a proactive and creative individual, passionate about delivering impactful training programs, incorporating the latest technological advancements to engage and support our employees’ continuous professional growth. This position will oversee a range of learning initiatives, from technical and regulatory training to essential soft skills development. This role combines facilitation, coaching, and program development to empower employees to reach their full potential and support business goals.
Responsibilities:
Learning Program Design & Delivery
- Deliver interactive workshops, training sessions, and coaching programs (in-person and virtual).
- Adapt delivery style to suit diverse learning needs and levels of experience.
- Work with stakeholders to identify training needs and performance gaps.
- Develop or customize training materials, e-learning modules, and supporting resources.
- Provide one-on-one or group coaching to support individual growth and performance improvement.
- Help learners apply knowledge to real-world work situations.
Technology Integration for Learning
- Implement and manage learning technologies and systems (e.g., Learning Management Systems, virtual learning tools, gamification, AI-based learning, etc.) to optimize training delivery.
- Stay up to date with emerging learning technologies and integrate them where applicable to enhance training impact.
- Drive digital transformation within L&D by creating engaging e-learning modules, video-based training, simulations, and interactive content.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Relationship Management
- Partner with internal stakeholders, including compliance, risk management, and senior leadership, to ensure training programs align with business goals and regulatory requirements.
- Create and enable a learning culture by engaging leaders and teams in the importance of ongoing skill development and professional growth.
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct regular training audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
- Develop a data-driven approach to measure employee performance pre- and post-training to ensure impactful learning outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Experience in Learning & Development, preferably within a regulated financial services industry.
- Excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal and coaching skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire.
- Experience with instructional design principles and adult learning methodologies.
- Proficiency in delivering both face-to-face and virtual training.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS), e-learning software, and virtual learning tools.
- Familiarity with tools for digital content creation, video editing, and multimedia design.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and build relationships across all levels.
- Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP), ATD, or similar L&D certifications are advantageous.

Learner Onboarding and Orientation:
â Conduct an introductory orientation session on the first day of training to introduce learners to the Learning Management System (LMS) and its features, and explain how to navigate the courses, access resources, and utilise the LMS as a tool
â Offer follow-up sessions during the first week to address any onboarding
challenges and ensure learners are comfortable with the platform and course structure
Learner Support and Engagement During the Structured Independent Online Learning Phase:

Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in learner support, academic advising, or customer success

Technical Skills:

The Faculty of Education requires an Academic Success Coach (Postgraduate) to play an advisory role and develop and implement support programmes for postgraduate students at the University of Pretoria. The purpose of the job is, therefore, to support postgraduate students in the Faculty of Education, especially those at risk of failing, to transition into and thrive at the University of Pretoria. The Academic Success Coach (Postgraduate) will report to the Deputy Dean: Research and Postgraduate Studies.
Responsibilities
- General support to the Deputy Dean: Research and Postgraduate Studies in matters related to postgraduate students
- Coordinate and assist during postgraduate support sessions
- Track postgraduate students’ performance and direct them to available support structures at the University of Pretoria such as finance, academic support, counselling and other services available
- Assist during the annual Faculty Research Legotla which serves as a platform for postgraduate students to showcase their research
- Provide academic advising services to postgraduate students in the Faculty of Education on study paths and associated career options
- Contribute to academic skills development sessions with postgraduate students on topics such as academic writing, time management, goal setting and study skills
- Create a data base to monitor registered postgraduate student numbers and postgraduate student progress
- Assist with the establishment of holistic student engagement and support in the Faculty of Education
- Identify ‘at risk’ students and conduct special individual support sessions/tutorials with them and manage data on student interactions.
- Honours degree in Educational Psychology or Psychology or Social Work
- Three years’ experience as a tutor, mentor or advisor at a tertiary institution
- Experience in data capturing.
- Empathy and passion for supporting the wellbeing of others
- Competence in the use of Microsoft packages (including Word and Excel), Google Suite of applications and the internet
- The ability to analyse data
- A good understanding of the Faculty of Education’s postgraduate curriculum
- Excellent time management skills
- A basic understanding of Higher Education Systems
- Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to plan and facilitate workshops and conduct one-on-one interviews
- Ability to manage and follow through on referred cases
- Available to keep office hours
- Master's degree in Educational Psychology or Psychology or Social Work
- Experience in student counselling or career counselling
- Experience in working with university students in an orientation, advising, retention, student life, residence life, service learning or closely related field
- Knowledge of the UP-campus ecology
- The ability to handle a variety of complex tasks simultaneously, meet stringent deadlines and work under pressure for extended periods of time.
The fixed remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
