Job Description
The role is responsible for conducting macro-economic research to support OML Group business decisions which could include investment strategies, capital deployment, inputs into financial planning and the management of financial risks. The successful candidate will cover all the geographic markets OML operates in with level of detail differing on based on internal requirements. The role supports OMLs "Share of Voice" through publications / commentary / analyses as well as OMLs' business Clusters by being available to directly engage customers at formal events (e.g. financial advisor engagements).
The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and developing the Economic Research function to be future fit to support the organisational requirements as they continue to evolve and will also be expected to play a senior leadership role within the Treasury and Financial Markets division.
Key result Areas
Economic Research and Application:
- Provide market-leading economic analysis including economic forecasts
- Overlay economic scenarios with business impacts – i.e. develop and build an understanding of key economic sensitivities on the OML Cluster performance to enrich research applications and usage
- Form part of key OML decision making forums and present where applicable; support ad hoc requests from internal divisions and Boards where relevant
- Support OML Clusters in direct client or distribution channel engagements (e.g. presentations to financial advisors)
- Where relevant, provide input into regulatory policies or related commentary on industry papers (e.g. ASISA) affecting the financial services landscape
Media Support:
- Provide media support to build Old Mutual's public profile as requested by the internal OML marketing team
- Support Old Mutual's public leadership role: interaction with monetary and fiscal authorities, regulators, WEF, IMF, World Bank, SA Tomorrow Investment Conference where applicable.
Leadership:
- Support the evolution of the Economic Research Function (deliveries, focus areas, strategic tilts)
- Play a senior leadership role in the Treasury and Financial Markets division
Public Profile:
- Utilise developed relationships and market insights to act as a senior representative of Old Mutual in order to support the larger Group achieve its commercial targets.
The role spans the full geography of Old Mutal businesses.

Background
An implementation study on the dapivirine vaginal ring (DVR) was conducted in South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Uganda and Eswatini. The study generated quantitative data on uptake, adherence, and user experiences. We are seeking a qualified Biostatistician to support data analysis for an implementation study on the dapivirine vaginal ring, a long-acting biomedical HIV prevention method. The consultant will analyze quantitative data on uptake, adherence, and user experiences, producing report and publication-ready results to inform regulatory, policy and programmatic decisions.
Scope of Work
· Review study protocol, objectives, and datasets.
· Develop and finalize a statistical analysis plan (SAP).
· Clean and merge datasets
· Conduct appropriate statistical analyses, including descriptive, inferential, and multivariable analyses
· Provide guidance on data quality, management, and handling of missing data.
· Generate report and publication-ready tables, figures, and outputs.
· Contribute to interpretation of findings and drafting of results sections for reports and manuscripts.
· Participate in virtual meetings with the study team as needed.
Deliverables
· Finalize statistical analysis plan.
· Clean and merge datasets
· Write reproducible code (Stata/R/SAS preferred) and conduct appropriate statistical analyses.
· Comprehensive results tables and figures (report and publication ready).
· Analytical report summarizing findings.
· Contributions to reports, manuscripts, policy briefs, and presentations as needed.
Qualifications
· Advanced degree (MSc) in Biostatistics, Statistics, or related quantitative field, PhD preferrable.
· Demonstrated experience in analyzing implementation science or public health studies.
· Proficiency in Stata, R, or SAS.
· Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications or reports.
· Familiarity with HIV prevention research and/or women's health interventions desirable.
· Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
Level of Effort & Duration
Estimated 12 days per month (3 days/week) over 12 months (with flexibility based on agreed scope) from 01 November 2025 to 31 October 2026. Remote, with communication primarily via email/virtual meetings.

This role is responsible for the management, maintenance, analysis and interpretation of portfolio data and information related to a diversified portfolio of credit investments comprising, inter alia, South African corporates, municipalities, state owned entities, leveraged buy-outs, project finance, property, securitisation transactions and developed market credit.
Responsibilities for the role would mainly be focused on the analysis and modelling of credit and financial data related to existing and new credit assets managed by the Credit Portfolio Management function within OMSFIN and for utilising one's knowledge of credit instruments to build, maintain, validate and recalibrate, as and when necessary, internal models that are used to generate PD's, LGD's, economic capital metrics and SAM capital metrics that are used to inform investment decisions.
Key Result Areas
- Perform quantitative credit investment analysis using both excel based tools as well as Moody's Riskfrontier to assess capital and returns.
- Develop and improve internal ratings scorecards.
- Perform portfolio analysis that would be meaningful to management and stakeholders.
- Needs to have a good understanding of financial modelling of structured loans, derivatives etc.
Qualifications And Experience Required
- B.Sc. (preferably honours) majoring in one or more of the following: Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or other Pure / Applied Science or B.Com / B.Bus.Sci. (preferably honours) majoring in one or more of the following: Actuarial Science, Operations Research, Finance, Economics or Econometrics
