This role is ideal for someone passionate about sustainability, environmental data analysis, and supporting
impactful projects. Youll work closely with our environmental team to collect, analyze, and report data that
drives our sustainability initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in collecting and analyzing environmental data (e.g., emissions, waste, and water usage)
- Support environmental audits and compliance assessments
- Prepare reports, presentations, and dashboards using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Conduct research on environmental regulations, best practices, and emerging trends
- Help develop and maintain databases for tracking environmental performance
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on sustainability projects
- South African Unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 34.
- Must not have participated on the YES programme before.
- Grade 12
- Recent graduate in Environmental Science, or related field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

The Employer is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Environmental Engineer to lead initiatives that reduce the organisation’s ecological footprint, ensure environmental compliance, and drive innovative sustainability solutions across manufacturing operations. This role blends technical engineering expertise with strategic problem-solving, enabling you to design and implement projects that enhance efficiency, minimise waste, and meet – or exceed – regulatory and stakeholder expectations.
You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, embedding sustainability principles into product design, production processes, and long-term development strategies, while fostering a culture of environmental responsibility throughout the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive Sustainability Management System for the organisation and subsidiaries.
Integrate sustainability principles into engineering, product development, manufacturing, and policy .
Design and implement technical solutions to improve resource efficiency and generate revenue from waste streams.
Identify and secure government incentive schemes to support sustainability initiatives.
Lead ESG and non-financial reporting , ensuring accuracy and transparency.
Build strong relationships with government, municipal, and industry stakeholders to influence environmental practices and policies.
Ensure full compliance with environmental and sustainability regulations, reducing legal and reputational risk.
Analyse environmental performance data to identify improvement opportunities and measure progress.
Promote environmental awareness and engage employees in sustainability-driven behaviours.
Minimum Requirements
National Diploma / BSc / BTech in Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability Management, or related Engineering field.
5–10 years’ experience in the manufacturing industry.
Minimum 3 years in a sustainability management, environmental engineering, or environmental leadership role in manufacturing, with a proven track record.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office .
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills at all organisational levels.
Proven analytical skills with innovative problem-solving ability.
Experience with ISO 14001 , ESG reporting, and large-scale sustainability project design (including funding solutions).
Ability to influence national and regional policy and legislation .
Desirable
Knowledge of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation .
Experience in water and effluent treatment technologies .
Postgraduate qualification in Business Management/Administration.
