Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced learning design knowledge to create technology-enabled learning experiences that meet best practice standards
  • Ensure all learning materials align with Construct's quality framework and enhance learner engagement
  • Effectively engage with internal stakeholders to translate course blueprints into detailed course storyboards for seamless digital course development
  • Design instructionally sound and engaging online learning experiences by structuring content, creating activities, and integrating multimedia elements
  • Author directly on the LMS or support the learning technologist team in course building
  • Regularly collaborate with the production team to create course and video graphic guides in line with Construct's design principles
  • Support internal quality assurance processes, ensuring all design activities meet Construct's high standards
  • Proactively integrate and utilize GenAI technologies to enhance workflow efficiency and innovation in course design


Requirements

You have:

  • 5+ years of experience in online or blended learning design or a similar role
  • Strong consultancy and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Proficiency in designing and developing courses for multiple LMSs (e.g., EdX, Canvas, Bridge, etc.)
  • Proven ability to self-motivate, work autonomously, and demonstrate leadership within a multidisciplinary team
  • Deep knowledge of best practices for online and blended learning design
  • Ability to coach peers and external stakeholders on best practices
  • A demonstrable interest in and understanding of agile learning and development (L&D) design and technology-enhanced learning
  • Excellent attention to detail and a solutions-oriented approach to learning design challenges

Key Purpose

This ML Engineer is responsible for designing, building, managing, and continuously improving the operational processes that support the deployment and maintenance of actuarial, machine learning, and other decision-support models. The role involves end-to-end project planning, cross-functional collaboration with actuarial, data science, analytics, and business teams, and delivering insights into process efficiency across business areas. Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to

  • Design and create implementation and testing processes for models in both a traditional and ML framework to ensure business decisions can be actioned quickly and effectively.
  • Assist with the design and integration of traditional models and processes into cloud-based platforms like DataBricks to utilise additional functions and better performance.
  • Responsible for deploying rating and logic engines using proprietary software, ensuring accurate implementation and seamless integration into production environments.
  • Project planning and collaboration with actuarial, data science, underwriting, operational and system teams to ensure a smooth implementation process that reduces risks and achieves the required outcomes.
  • Frequent monitoring and reporting on the progress and performance of existing models and processes, as well as presenting the design for new processes to upper management.
  • Creation of automated processes and reports to reduce manual intervention and flag any areas of concern as they arise.
  • Assessment of the efficiency and effectiveness of business processes through data analytics to identify any areas for improvement or cost savings.
  • Implementation of pricing changes in existing models on a frequent basis, to ensure that changes in our pricing structure and strategies can be quickly actioned.
  • Creation of new tools and processes that can be used to reduce manual intervention and turnaround time of our client support teams.

Skills And Knowledge

  • Modelling skills preferred (Basic)
  • Programming Skills: SQL, Python (Intermediate)

Education And Experience

Education:

Job Description

The candidate will be working with clients on projects focused on delivering reliable data-powered software applications to production. The primary focus of the role includes designing and implementing data pipelines, building models (machine learning or not), and deploying models.

Melio believes in nurturing cross-functional capabilities in our team, so you will need to work closely with other technical roles, such as BI specialists, data scientists, DevOps engineers and other data and machine learning engineers either to observe or to assist.

This is a technical role, but due to the consulting nature of many of our projects, the candidate needs to be able to communicate effectively with both business and technical stakeholders.

The list below is for both machine learning engineer and data engineer, but we are not expecting you to perform as both an ML engineer and a data engineer. The idea is you should be sufficiently comfortable with either role to be aware and able to communicate and learn from your colleagues.

What you will be working on
  • Fluent with the following languages: Python, Spark, PySpark, SQL.
  • Strong analytical skills and passion for solving data problems.
  • Strong communications skills and comfortable presenting your own thoughts to technical and business stakeholders.
  • Familiar with building training and inference pipelines for ML projects.
  • Familiar with fundamental machine learning theory and building, tuning, selecting models.
  • Familiar with MLOps principals.
  • Some experience with at least one Cloud provider.
  • Some experience working with test automation and tools.
  • Implement and test data engineering and machine learning software.
  • Build and test data engineering and machine learning pipelines for data analytics or machine learning solutions.
  • Collaborate and share technical knowledge with team members and co-workers.

Qualification & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.

Role Purpose

The Machine Learning Engineer is an emerging specialist professional who will kick start their careers by supporting the ML team to apply computer science (including data structures, algorithms, computability and complexity) statistical modeling, and software engineering in machine learning operations (MLOps) to build cutting edge, end-to-end ML data models. Role Description

  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and work with senior colleagues to analyse business problems, clarify requirements and define the scope of the resolution needed.
  • Collaborate within a cross-functional team of Data Scientists, Engineers and Analysts in order to understand project goals, and build, implement and scale-up algorithms for measurable impact.
  • Display basic understanding of ANN's, CNN's, RNN's, autoencoders, fundamental data science concepts (linear and logistic regression, SVM's, dimensionality reduction), decision trees, gradient boosting, ensemble models, etc. to develop machine learning models.
  • Work with above architectures within deep learning frameworks such as Keras and TensorFlow.
  • Demonstrate foundational understanding of relevant applications and/or systems (including, but not limited to, the machine learning algorithms) being created.
  • Build basic algorithms based on statistical modelling procedures and build and maintain machine learning solutions in production.
  • Use data modelling and evaluation strategy to find patterns and predict unseen instances.
  • Train models on large-scale data and fine tune hyper-parameters.
  • Research appropriate machine learning algorithms and tools and work with senior colleagues to select the correct libraries, programming languages and frameworks for each task.
  • Apply understanding of theoretical frameworks in computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, computability, complexity and computer architecture.
  • Keep abreast of technological developments in the field, and integrate the latest data technologies into existing requirements.
  • Follow best practices and standards of machine learning operations (MLOps) workflows for data preparation, deployment, monitoring and retraining to enable agile application methods to projects, and support machine learning models and data sets within a CI/CD process.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or a related field – (essential).
  • +2 years’ experience as a Data Scientist or ML Engineer (preferred) working with machine learning frameworks, models, or systems with strong mathematical and statistical experience skills - (essential).
  • Exposure to common machine learning, data, math and visualisation libraries (i.e. Pandas, pyTorch, SciPy, NumPy, Scikit-Learn etc.) - (essential).
  • Exposure to developing Machine Learning & NLP solutions over opensource platforms such as (TensorFlow, SparkML, OpenCV, pyTorch, etc.) - (essential).
  • Exposure to different coding environments (local, notebooks, containers) and software engineering workflows (testing, code management/Git) - (essential).

  • Serve as a member of the OPCO, sharing oversight on operational activities, contributing to tactical planning, ensuring L&D strategies align with business goals, integrate into broader operations, and support business performance and organisational transformation through talent development priorities.
  • Manage and develop a team of Learning Specialists, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and resources to effectively support the L&D strategy and contribute to business impact.

Cultural Transformation and Change

  • Drive cultural transformation and change initiatives through L&D programs, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and supporting committees such as the Transformation Committee and EETSCom.
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning and innovation, ensuring employees have the tools and resources to stay ahead of industry trends and evolving business needs. Introduce various learning initiatives to improve employee effectiveness.

Training Administration

  • Manage the training and development budget, developing an annual forecast based on talent development requirements and tracking expenditures to ensure efficiency.
  • Compile training and development progress reports, providing regular updates on training effectiveness, and impact on business outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain a trainee database for the company, ensuring accurate records of training participation and progress.
  • Work with the Skills Development Facilitator to manage learnerships and graduate programs, ensuring these initiatives are aligned with business needs and objectives.

Performance Measurement and ROI

  • Regularly measure the effectiveness of L&D initiatives, analysing ROI and aligning training outcomes with business performance metrics to demonstrate tangible results and impact.
  • Add value to the organisation and contribute to improving profit margins through training return on investment (ROI), establishing a more systematic approach to talent development, and ensuring that training initiatives are directly aligned with business needs and performance.

Compliance and Regulatory Requirements

  • Ensure sustainable relationships with relevant SETAs, including partnerships on special Skills Development Programmes and updated QMS. Ensure Skills Development/SETA compliance through Workplace Skills Plans (WSP).
  • Responsible for complying with applicable legislation, policies, standards, and laid-down procedures (statutory and regulatory requirements). This includes developing, implementing, and monitoring the WSP in line with legislative requirements.
  • Manage the Socio-Economic Development (SED) pillar in partnership with the SED Facilitator to ensure alignment with broader community engagement goals, support talent development across sectors, and contribute to fulfilling corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitments.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, including senior leadership, department heads, and HR teams, to ensure L&D initiatives align with business objectives and support talent development needs.
  • Maintain advisory/consultative relationships with subject matter experts and department heads to ensure that L&D programs remain relevant, effective, and aligned with business goals.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with external stakeholders such as SETAs, industry associations, training providers, and educational institutions to enhance learning opportunities, stay current with industry trends, and ensure compliance with Skills Development and other regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An honors degree or equivalent qualification in HR Management or similar.
  • A post-graduate qualification such as MBA, SMP or MAP or at least 3-5 years in HRD at a senior level preferred.
  • 5-8 years Previous Training and Development management experience and exposure at EXCO level.
  • ETDP (with at least a facilitator and assessors qualification) and/or SDF background.
  • A good balance of strategy and hands-on experience in all people development aspects.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels.
  • Previous experience working with SETA's.
  • Outstanding needs analysis, positioning, Training and Development justification skills.
  • Superior presentation and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Prior experience with e-learning systems.
  • Ability to successfully lead and motivate a team.
  • Excellent understanding of learning and development systems/programmes.
  • Ability to work under pressure.

DevOps and Software Engineering:

  • Build CI/CD pipelines to improve development and deployment practices.

Requirements Education and Experience:

Technical Skills:
  • 2 years of experience using Python and SQL.
  • Exposure to Linux shell scripting is advantageous.

Assignment: Learning Design for Deel’s Leadership Academy

Contract Period: June 1st, 2024 – December 1st, 2024

Scope: Deliver comprehensive, multi-modal learning resources in collaboration with the People Development Partners, to support the creation, launch and iteration of Deel’s Leadership Academy within H2 2024.

Contract Deliverables:

  • Develop interactive e-learning modules (using Articulate) and associated or stand-alone assets including but not limited to animations, videos, quizzes, and case studies on topics related to the Leadership Academy programs.
  • In partnership with People Development Partners, design visually engaging live leadership workshops plus custom-designed facilitator guides and participant workbooks.
  • Create visually engaging job aids, infographics, and one-pagers summarizing key leadership models, frameworks, and best practices for quick reference and reinforcement.
  • Support with the creation of ‘marketing’ content for the Leadership Academy, including the design of promotional materials such as videos, slide decks and other visual assets.

What you'll do:

  • Leads Instructional Designers and subject matter experts across the content team to develop e-learning course content.
  • Responsible for analysing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating online learning.
  • Support solutions based on the client requirements using different digital media appropriate to their needs.
  • Working with Instructional Designers on instructional, graphic and assessment design across multiple learning project workflows simultaneously, within stipulated standards, resources, and deadlines.
  • Responsible for delivering innovative creative ideas which will help in design and implementation.
  • Leads the team of Instructional Designers to ensure greater team coordination.
  • Responsible for a strong versatile creative writing skills and guides the team to write for e-learning, animations, drama, and printed materials.
  • Develop templates, organise, manage and repurpose course content files (audio, video, SCORM), schedule periodic course reviews, and track documentation and version control in order to manage content creation and the effective organisation of digital and digitised information.
  • Responsible to run a creative meeting and keep it on-track.
  • Responsible for multiple delivery methods (HTML5, Storyline, Articulate Rise, PDF, Word, PPT.)

What we're looking for:

  • A minimum of 4 years' experience in Instructional Design
  • BA (Bachelor of Arts) or equivalent experience
  • Experience of Creative Writing
  • Has strong views about how best to communicate information to a diverse audience.
  • Has an eye for good visual design (you do not need Photoshop skills)
  • Competitive hourly fee rates
