Roles and Responsibilities
- You offer technical advice, guidance and support to internal VVOB colleagues to achieve project results and to partners in order to realise educational change processes supported by the project.
- You contribute to the identification, formulation, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project to realise educational change processes supported by the project.
- You take up a variety of roles in the capacity development process of the partners according to the needs of the partner and particular situations and phases of the programme.
- You keep abreast with policy trends, new developments and latest research and thinking in education and international development by external and internal networking and share new insights with partners and VVOB colleagues.

Required Expertise And Experience
- Master's degree in education, human sciences, or other relevant field or equivalent experience. Proven experience in instructional design (min 2 years) with adult blended and/or online learning trajectories is an advantage.
- Degree or diploma in instructional design, learning design, learning technology or related field is preferable
- Knowledge of and experience with project management
- An understanding of national education systems and the latest developments in the education sector with a particular focus on teacher education is an advantage.
- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of blended and online learning.

Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:
- Apply advanced learning and design knowledge and skills to create technology-enabled learning experiences for a range of learners that meet best practice standards.
- Effectively engage in regular interactions with internal roleplayers to translate a course blueprint into a detailed course atlas/storyboard which supports an effective and efficient digital course building process.
- Taking a lead in internal OES team initiatives.
- Reviewing course documentation to familiarise yourself with the broader context of the course.
- Collecting content aligned to learning outcomes by creating and reviewing content request documents for your clients.
- Creating instructionally sound and engaging online learning experiences by presenting content coherently, creating relevant activities, and proposing necessary graphic and video content.
- Designing and writing grammatically correct learning content in partnership with external subject matter experts (SMEs).
- Populating course atlas/storyboard and writing scripts, according to OES's learning and visual design principles.
- Author directly on the LMS or support the learning technologist team as they build the course.
- Regularly engaging with the production team to create a course graphics guide and video graphics guide according to OES's design principles.
Supporting internal roleplayers through QA processes.
For example, processing client feedback and mapping all design activity to OES's quality standards.
- 5 years + working experience in online or blended Learning Design, or similar role.
- Strong consultancy and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to develop and/or design courses for multiple LMSs (EdX, Canvas, and Bridge, etc.)
- Proven ability to self-motivate, work autonomously and demonstrate leadership qualities with a multidisciplinary team.
- Deep knowledge of best practices for online and blended learning design.
- Ability to coach peers and external role players on best practices.
- Demonstrable interest in and understanding of agile L&D design and delivery, especially technologically enhanced L&D.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- A passion for great learning and a solutions-orientated approach to learning and design challenges.

SACAP (The South African College of Applied Psychology) is the leading independent provider of accredited Psychology, Counselling, Human Resource Management, Business Management and Social Work qualifications, with all courses grounded in psychology. We have campuses in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Online.
SACAP is looking for a Learning Designer.
The Learning Designer is responsible for conceptualizing, co-creating, developing, updating, and implementing innovative, pedagogically sound learning experiences that align with SACAP's academic standards, institutional objectives, and learner needs.
This includes:
- Co-creating first drafts of learning materials with AI tools and SME input.
- Updating learning content according to approved module outlines within development cycles.
- Developing interactive and other e-learning activities from scripts.
- Producing scripts and media briefs for the Multimedia Designer.
- Brainstorming, scripting, and storyboarding video content.
- Creating AI-generated podcasts for the Multimedia Designer to refine and edit.
- Producing occasional AI graphics in line with brand guidelines.
- Assisting in the pre-production process for filmed SMEs, including facilitating contracts (with SMEs and videographers), planning shoot schedules, and overseeing the filming process up to the point of handover to the Multimedia Designer.
Learning Designers collaborate extensively with subject matter experts (SMEs), curriculum specialists, the CIE's learning technology team, and other internal stakeholders to ensure high-quality, accessible, engaging, and inclusive learning materials.
The role requires expertise in instructional design, basic academic research, assessment design, as well as strong collaboration and problem-solving skills.
Learning Designers adopt an AI-first mindset, strategically using AI to enhance content co-creation, interactive design, multimedia scripting, and workflow efficiency, while ensuring outputs are pedagogically sound, academically rigorous, and accessible.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Communication & Media Studies, or a related field.
- A postgraduate qualification (e.g., Master's degree) is desirable
- Demonstrated experience in learning design, learning experience design, instructional design, or e-learning development.
- Experience creating interactive activities using H5P, Rise, or similar authoring tools.
