Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ in Midrand has an opportunity available for a Network Engineer to join the team. The purpose of this role is to design, implement, troubleshoot and maintain secure and efficient network solutions to support our business objectives.
Minimum RequirementsEssential:
- Grade 12 – Matric or a Senior Certificate
- Degree in computer science, IT, or related field
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years of professional experience in network engineering
Advantage:
- Certifications such as Fortinet NSE, Aruba Certified Network Professional (ACNP), or Ruckus Certified Networking Associate (RCNA) are highly desirable
- Strong understanding of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, BGP, OSPF)
- Experience with wireless networking solutions and RF planning
Design and Implementation:
- Design, configure, and deploy network solutions based on business and technical requirements.
- Plan, deploy, and optimize network solutions using Fortinet, Aruba, and Ruckus products.
- Configure and troubleshoot firewalls, access points, switches, and controllers.
- Ensure network scalability, performance, and security.
Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
- Monitor and maintain network performance, ensuring high availability and reliability.
- Conduct regular network assessments and make recommendations for improvements.
- Evaluate network capacity and plan for future growth, anticipating resource requirements and recommending upgrades as needed.
- Diagnose and resolve network incidents promptly to minimize service disruptions.
- Respond to network incidents and provide timely resolutions.
- Provide Level 2/3 support for network incidents and outages.
- Collaborate with vendors and other IT teams to resolve complex incidents.
Security and Compliance:
- Collaborate with the security team to ensure network designs meet security and compliance requirements.
- Implement and manage security protocols, including VPNs, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems.
- Ensure compliance with security best practices and standards.
- Maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures for network infrastructure.
Documentation and Training:
- Maintain detailed network documentation, diagrams and procedures for troubleshooting and planning.
- Provide training and guidance to junior employees as needed.
General:
- Adhere to Dis-Chem Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Adhere to Health and Safety rules and regulations.
Essential:
- Strong understanding of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, BGP, OSPF). Experience with wireless networking solutions and RF planning. Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools
- The tendency to approach problems in a rational, intellectual manner. Will base decisions on a logical analysis of available evidence
- Ability to have a clear vision about what needs to be achieved

- Proven experience with Fortinet products (e.g., FortiGate firewalls, FortiAnalyzer, FortiSwitch). Hands-on experience with Aruba networking solutions (e.g., ClearPass, ArubaOS, Aruba Central). In-depth knowledge of Ruckus networking (e.g., SmartZone, ICX switches, Ruckus Cloud)

About the Role
The Network Engineer will work closely with CISO to continually uplift and develop our network capability to ensure continual secure and uninterrupted communication within the organisation and with our fleet of Bluebottle USVs.
The ITServices team is responsible for the Ocius’s day-to-day IT support and network capability. The team are instrumental in ensuring the wider company can function, including ensuring our Bluebottle platforms can function effectively at sea
What You'll Do
Design modern LAN and WAN networks with integrated security.
Deploy and maintain networksusing Infrastructure as Code.
Maintain legacy network infrastructure at Ocius and client locations.
Provide end-to-end network engineering support, from planning and estimating through to post-deployment assistance.
Develop and refine technical documentation for network design, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
Attend and contribute to meetings with clients and stakeholders as required.
Maintain compliance with Ocius policies and best practices in all network-related work.
Selection Criteria
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology (or related) or equivalent TAFE qualifications with experience.
Proven experience designing and implementing complex networks, ideally using infrastructure as code.
Experience working with virtual infrastructure (cloud or on-premise).
Experience working with remote sites or unreliableconnections, including 4G/5G, satellite and mesh radio systems.
Ability to create clear and concise technical documentation for existing and new networks.
Familiarity with network security best practice, ideally in a defence setting.
