The Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Digital Curation and Cultural Heritage. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing Faculty strengths . The Faculty of Information is home to the Digital Curation Institute, Knowledge Media and Design Institute, Centre for Culture and Technology, and GLAM Incubator, and offers added opportunities for collaboration with Book History and Print Culture. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research, and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. The successful candidate will perform standard professional and administrative activities appropriate to a pre-tenure career stage at a research-intensive university.

We seek candidates with global and comparative research interests in one or more of the following areas: preservation of born-digital and born-networked materials; virtual reconstruction of tangible and intangible heritage; ethics and governance of digital materials; community-integrated digital heritage; and access and use of digital materials. The successful candidate will bring experience with the creation and/or application of technical skills, including but not limited to: data documentation and metadata; systems design and development; data analytics; augmented and virtual reality modelling; media obsolescence and recovery; workflows; standards; digital forensics; and/or geographic information systems (GIS).

We seek candidates able to contribute to curricular development and to teach across our diverse professional (BI, MI, MMSt) and research (PhD) programs. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below) submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals, forthcoming publications, or creative professional activities meeting high international standards, successful research grants, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees. The successful candidate must provide demonstrated evidence of readiness as a research supervisor in the application materials, as they will be expected to undertake undergraduate and graduate research supervision and teaching. Qualifications

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be currently enrolled full-time for a Bachelor of Information Technology (Information Systems) or similar fields of study OR Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) with specialisation in Information Systems – or similar fields of study at a recognised South African university.
  • Be in your second, third, or fourth year of study.
  • Demonstrate academic excellence and commitment to your field of study with a minimum final overall academic average of 65%.

Introduction

Applications are invited for the position of Head: Aeronautical Information Management and Systems (Peromnes Grade 5) based at OR Tambo Air Traffic Control Centre – Aeronautical Information Management Unit. The successful applicant will be reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. The purpose of this role is to ensure the provision of aeronautical information management, infrastructure, resources, and service delivery that meet and satisfy reasonable requirements of the aviation community, in line with ICAO standards and recommended practices (SARPs) as well as SACAA Regulations and Technical Standards.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Alignment - Develop, implement and manage the Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) strategy aligned with effective air traffic management services; Drive delivery of projects/initiatives on time and within budget; Analyze trends and metrics to inform the development of solutions aligned to ATNS objectives.

Aeronautical Information Management - Ensure aeronautical data and information are available for air navigation; Manage AIM systems for access to flight information and e-flight plans; Ensure compliance with AIRAC schedules; Manage integrated aeronautical information and ensure quality-assured data; Drive system improvements and identify AIM projects.

Required Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  1. Postgraduate qualification in Business Management / Leadership.
  2. Minimum 8 years’ experience in aeronautical information service delivery, with at least 5 years at management level.

Alternative Qualifications - Candidates without a postgraduate qualification may apply if they have:

  1. Air traffic control experience (aerodrome, approach, or area control).
  2. Formal leadership training or Management Development Program.
  3. Minimum 10 years’ experience in air traffic management operations, with at least 7 years at middle management level.

Note: Candidates appointed with alternative qualifications must achieve the required postgraduate qualification within three years, sponsored by ATNS.
