Your Role: Country Manager
As Country Manager , you will drive Cepheid’s commercial success and strategic vision within South Africa. You will lead the local team to deliver exceptional performance across sales, market development, and customer engagement, while also contributing to the region’s long-term growth strategy.
You will be accountable for executing go-to-market strategies, developing strong partnerships with healthcare stakeholders, and growing Cepheid’s presence in both public and private sectors. This role combines commercial acumen, strategic thinking, and inspirational leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the country’s commercial operations, setting and executing a strategy to achieve revenue and market share growth.
- Drive pipeline development, accurate forecasting, and performance tracking to deliver on business objectives.
- Collaborate with regional and global teams including Marketing, Customer Care, Channel Management, and Sales Operations to drive execution excellence.
- Build trusted relationships with key accounts, government stakeholders, KOLs, and partners to support market penetration and long-term growth.
- Ensure Cepheid’s active participation in key national tenders and strategic procurement initiatives.
- Develop and retain high-performing talent while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous development.
- Serve as a visible and values-driven leader, representing Cepheid internally and externally.

What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree is a plus.
- 12+ years of total experience, including at least 5+ years of managing commercial teams.
- Prior experience in diagnostics, medical devices, or healthcare industry is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success in leading teams, managing partners, and executing commercial strategies in complex markets.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to motivate and inspire diverse teams.
- Strategic thinking with solid business acumen and analytical mindset.
- Skilled in stakeholder engagement, contract negotiations, and navigating public and private healthcare systems.
- Ability to thrive in matrix organizations and multicultural environments.
- High ethical standards and a passion for delivering healthcare impact.
- Fluent English required; additional local language skills are a plus.
- Experience with P&L responsibility is an advantage.

Lead the sales and business development teams, managing profit and loss (P&L), providing outstanding customer and technical support, and optimizing the performance of the distributors’ network. Duties & ResponsibilitiesIn order to be considered, the following is required:
- NQF 7 / 8 in Life Sciences, Laboratory Sciences, Biochemical, Biomedical, or related disciplines
- Significant (>15 years, ideally) experience of working across different functions of the diagnostics and/or healthcare industry and extensive sales and negotiation experience with 10 years experience in leading teams
- Experience in managing African markets and distributors
Responsibilities:
Sales Strategy and Execution:- Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve revenue targets and market share growth in assigned countries
- Analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitor activities to identify expansion opportunities; foster relationships with key customers and negotiate contracts for long-term partnerships
- Take ownership of the P&L for assigned countries, monitoring financial performance and implementing corrective actions as needed

We are searching for an experienced Quality Assurance Lead to champion excellence across our Southern Africa Network (SAN) to be based in Johannesburg. In this critical role, you will spearhead our robust quality assurance program, ensuring unwavering compliance, managing emerging issues, and driving continuous improvement across all quality-related aspects.

Key Challenges:
Ensuring Quality Excellence Across The Network: Oversee detailed quality performance reporting, management reviews, and quality improvement initiatives in line with ISO 13485 requirements and international standards.
Quality Management Systems (QMS): Implement, maintain, and assess policies and procedures to ensure the SAN QMS remains a best-in-class system.
Managing Business Partnerships: Forge strong relationships with external business partners, ensuring supplier quality, 3PL onboarding, and aligned performance management.
Risk and Change Control Management: Integrate quality risk principles and manage change control processes to address evolving needs and compliance requirements.
Operational Quality Assurance Oversight: Be the guardian of logistics, product integrity, and system non-conformance while ensuring safety protocols and customer satisfaction.
Compliance with Documentation and Processes:** Ensure seamless document management, SOP adherence, and effective record control across workflows.
This position involves strong cross-functional collaboration with both internal teams—spanning Supply Chain, Regulatory, Sales, Medical Affairs, and more—and key external stakeholders such as regulatory authorities, service providers, and government departments.

Qualifications & Experience: A postgraduate qualification (NQF 9) in a health sciences field and at least 10 years of experience in the commercial pharmaceutical or medical device industry, including a minimum of 5 years in a management position.
Knowledge and Expertise: An in-depth understanding of the pharmaceutical sector, including regulations and commercial business management practices.
Skills and Attributes: You excel at achieving results and fostering strategic agility. You navigate complex business landscapes with political savvy, build trusted relationships, and inspire collaboration across teams. Strong problem-solving, communication, and responsiveness define your leadership style.
Flexibility: The ability to travel nationally and internationally as required.

Position Summary
At Cepheid , we are united by our mission to enable access to fast, accurate, and actionable diagnostic insights that improve lives. As a Senior Key Account Manager based in Gauteng , you will play a critical role in accelerating our commercial growth across South Africa’s healthcare ecosystem.
You will lead strategic customer engagement, driving adoption of Cepheid’s molecular diagnostic solutions across both the commercial and public health sectors, including HBDC. You will be responsible for managing key accounts directly and supporting distributor activities, while delivering on sales targets and business expansion plans. This high-impact role requires a customer-centric mindset, strong commercial acumen, and the ability to influence complex stakeholder environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Achieve or exceed quarterly and annual revenue targets by managing and growing strategic accounts in the region.
- Design and execute tailored account strategies to drive market share, increase test menu utilization, and secure long-term partnerships.
- Lead participation in tenders, contracts, and pricing strategies aligned with both commercial and public health market dynamics.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for healthcare institutions, commercial laboratories, and regional distributor partners.
- Drive business growth across key private and public healthcare providers, including Commercial Labs, Hospitals, Clinics, and Alternative Care Settings.
- Conduct regular engagements with clinicians, lab directors, procurement leads, and policy makers, positioning Cepheid as a trusted diagnostics partner.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team on demand generation campaigns, scientific workshops, and customer events, ensuring execution excellence.
- Support distributor partners by evaluating performance, facilitating training, and ensuring adherence to the Channel Partner Toolkit (CPTK) process.
- Maintain strong sales forecasting discipline using Salesforce (SFDC), providing visibility on pipeline, funnel activity, pricing, and market trends.
- Work cross-functionally with Customer Care, Service, and Technical teams to ensure high service quality and instrument uptime for your accounts.
- Champion the Danaher Business System (DBS) and funnel management principles to continuously drive process excellence and performance.
- Complete all assigned training modules on time and ensure compliance with Cepheid and Danaher policies.
- For team leaders: Ensure timely and full training completion for all direct reports.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Medical Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the diagnostics, medical device, or healthcare industry.
- Demonstrated success in managing key accounts and developing long-term business relationships.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen, especially within B2B healthcare markets.
- Ability to lead complex sales cycles, manage multiple stakeholders, and influence buying decisions.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills in both clinical and commercial environments.
- Adept at cross-functional collaboration and leveraging internal resources to support customer success.
- Highly organized, self-driven, and motivated by results.
- Willingness to travel locally and regionally up to 50%.
- Multi-lingual: Fluent in English; additional languages are an asset.
- Experience managing P&L and budgets.
- Advanced proficiency in Salesforce CRM or other sales tracking tools.
- Understanding of molecular diagnostics and public health procurement models.
