Software Development:
Engage in the full lifecycle of Process Automation products, including:
Requirements gathering
Project planning and execution
Algorithm development and modelling
Software implementation
Documentation:
Create and maintain thorough documentation throughout the product lifecycle, including:
Software requirements:
Project deliverables and timelines
Flow charts, diagrams, and user manuals

Product Support:

Lead new design projects for customers, from initial enquiry through to the implementation phase, including:
Expertise in algorithms and data structures for embedded software
Proficient in C programming language
Experience with embedded software development tools (SCM, compilers, etc.)
Familiar with embedded Linux systems and scripting languages like Python or JavaScript
Knowledgeable in electronic hardware used in embedded software environments
Self-driven with the ability to work independently as well as in a team
Strong documentation skills, capable of creating user-friendly manuals
Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite

Minimum requirements
BSc Electrical Engineering, BSc Computer Science, or equivalent qualification
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar environment, developing embedded software
Experience with ISO 9000 quality management systems
Product development experience will be advantageous
Leadership experience will be an added advantage

  • You will work in an agile, collaborative team; and working directly with Product teams and developers to define and deliver various user experiences, from initial ideation to sketches, wireframes, prototypes, and implementation of final UI designs.
  • The role is core to delivering exceptional customer experience across our digital ecommerce channels and will have a direct influence on the digital revenue metrics.
  • You will creatively translate user needs into elegant, intuitive, and effective design solutions.
  • You will identify and understand customer needs, behaviours, and pain points and use this to define problem statements that inform the teams focus.
  • You will work in a fast-paced team of engineers, product managers, and product designers to deliver impactful solutions across our online portals and mobile apps.


Your responsibilities:

Strategic

  • Drive a user-centred design approach. Influence the product direction and/or roadmap through evidence-driven UX.
  • Collaborate with teams across various departments (product, engineering, marketing etc.) and digital channels on product discovery and the delivery of solutions.


Discovery

  • Close collaboration with the product lead, stakeholders, and the development team to define problem statements, success metrics, and identify product opportunities.
  • Host workshops with the product team, stakeholders and developers for continuous product discovery with identified problems and opportunities.
  • Use discovery methods such as prototyping, usability testing and focus groups, and conduct user interviews to validate identified solutions with real customers, before solutions are developed.


UX research

  • Work with the product team on defining success metrics, crafting A/B tests and analyzing results to enable data-driven decisions, ensuring a positive impact on the user experience.
  • Deliver and communicate insights collected from user research, in effective and engaging presentations and user journeys.


Delivery (UX/UI/Visual)

  • Deliver wireframes, journeys, high and low fidelity prototypes and final UI design requirements for online portals and mobile apps.
  • Work together with various product teams to ensure visual consistency throughout on the platform, by leveraging from and contributing to our design system.
  • Conceptualize and develop micro-interactions, demo videos and animations.
  • Ensure design works as comfortably across our markets and languages.
  • Own and advocate Platform accessibility in both UX and UI.
  • Translate your design journeys into Product demo videos.


Leadership

  • Together with the Product team, you help to shape and drive our product strategy and vision.
  • You partner up with product and engineering leaders to ensure deliverables are well-defined, provide high business value, and are successfully executed.
  • Recommend new tools and technologies by staying abreast of the latest trends and techniques in Product design.


About You

  • You have experience across the entire product design cycle including UX research, copy writing, wireframes, and prototypes, final UI design (visual design), implementation, and post-release optimization.
  • 5- 8 years of experience in UX Design with a proven record of successfully shipped mobile app consumer-oriented experiences.
  • You have a strong Visual (UI) design experience with a good understanding of both Apples and Googles design guidelines/principles.
  • You can present your Portfolio showcasing your knowledge of native mobile UI design and case studies to explain your process.
  • Live app store examples of an app/s you have worked on is a plus.
  • You have excellent attention to detail and experience working with Mobile first customer facing products in evidence-driven design/product teams.
  • Proficient in design tools (such as Figma, Sketch, InVision, Zeplin , Adobe Photoshop).
  • Proficient in prototyping tools (such as InVision, proto.io).
  • Know-how in the field of research: interviewing users, setting up surveys and usability tests as well as interpreting the results (both Qualitative & Quantitative)
  • You love solving problems in ways customers love yet work for the business.
  • You have an intuitive eye for customer needs beyond the obvious.
  • You can effectively communicate and persuade around design concepts

About the Opportunity

Gopele is looking for a UI/UX Designer to join our team and help refine, enhance, and expand our learner- and teacher-facing interfaces. You’ll work with our existing Figma design system and contribute new user flows, interaction patterns, and accessibility improvements across web and mobile platforms.

You will be instrumental in designing intuitive, engaging, and inclusive user experiences that support learners from diverse linguistic and digital literacy backgrounds. This is a unique opportunity to shape how African learners interact with a cutting-edge educational tool while building a strong portfolio in EdTech UX design.

Key Activities

  • Review, refine, and extend Gopele’s Figma-based design system (components, typography, color, etc.).
  • Improve UX flows for key features: learner onboarding, lesson progression, teacher dashboards, quizzes, and AI insights.
  • Design wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes for new features and pages.
  • Work collaboratively with backend/frontend developers to ensure design implementation accuracy.
  • Conduct heuristic reviews and recommend enhancements for accessibility and mobile usability.
  • Participate in UI consistency audits and propose component reuse and layout improvements.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Figma (component libraries, prototyping, and collaborative workflows).
  • Strong foundation in UX principles, responsive design, and accessibility.
  • Portfolio or examples demonstrating UX case studies or UI design for web/mobile apps.
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and comfortable working asynchronously in a global team.

Duration

  • 3 hours/day, Monday to Friday
  • Fully remote

Acquired Skills

  • End-to-end UI/UX design experience for an actively developing MVP in education.
  • Hands-on application of Figma for systems thinking and collaborative iteration.
  • Exposure to learner-centered design principles for low-resource educational settings.
  • Experience in working closely with dev teams for real-world design delivery.
