Job Purpose
To support the faculty and department in pursuit of its academic and research objectives which include to teach according to a set syllabus; undertake research and innovation; contribute to curriculum development and design; engage in work integrated learning and develop service-learning activities.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A Master's Degree in Visual Communication Design or Graphic Design
- At least two (2) years' relevant Lecturing experience in Higher Education
Recommendations
- Advanced working knowledge of photography for Visual Communication Design
- Working knowledge of the full Adobe Suite of software i.e Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design, After Effects and Adobe XO (Subject to a competency test)
- At least two (2) years' Industry experience in Visual Communication Design

Job Purpose
This post is in line with the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP), part of the Staffing South Africa's Universities Framework (SSAUF) response towards addressing challenges in the South African Higher Education system in respect of size, composition and capacity of its academic staff. The SSAUF intends to identify and nurture academic talent early in the academic development trajectory, and to support newly recruited academics to develop teaching expertise; develop research skills, including scientific publication skills. The new generation of academics programme (nGAP) involves the recruitment of highly capable scholars as new academics. Appointment within the nGAP programme will be made such that staff equity targets are met, with preference to black and/or women South African citizens. To be eligible for selection for an nGap post, applicants must meet the following criteria, in addition to meeting the minimum criteria specified for the post:
- show interest in becoming an academic;
- be 40 years or younger;
- have a 70% pass mark for his/her Master's degree;
- show evidence of eligibility to undertake post-graduate study at doctoral level or post-doctoral programme; and
- be willing to commit to placement at the appointing university for the full 6 years of the programme.
The purpose of this post is for the candidate to lecture at Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Postgraduate Diploma in Visual Communication Design with excellent skill in the entire Adobe suite of software.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A Master's Degree in Visual Communication Design or Graphic Design
- Be 40 years or younger
- The candidate must be registered or prepared to register for a Doctoral degree.
Recommendations:
At least 1 year working experience either in industry or teaching at a tertiary institution.

- Participation in all components of the nGap development programme during the first six (6) years of employment
- Teach subjects at Diploma, Advanced Diploma as required in the programme. (Visual Communication Design, Media Innovation for Visual Communication Design, Visualisation and History and Theory of Design
- Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the department.
- Participate in curriculum development.
- Perform student assessment.
- Participate in research activities.
- Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department.
- Participate in work integrated learning and student visitations.
- Develop and maintain linkages with industry, professional bodies and local and international institutions of higher education.
- Assist with marketing and recruitment activities.
- Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department

PMID8412w (Project Management for Instructional Design)
Competencies Required:
Preparation and lecturing online as per the Module Guide; Teaching curriculum outcomes as per contract hours and stipulated per pre-agreed timetable; Briefing students for assignments and providing feedback; Marking assessments and providing feedback; Presenting class marks and feedback to the Programme Managers; Actively engaging with current trends in teaching and learning strategies within the IIE VEGA environment.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Ideal:
- Master's degree in education, instructional design, educational technology, or related field, for example, curriculum development and/or academic management.
- Alternative: Master's degree in an own field, such as information design with an NQF8 in Instructional design/EdTech or UX design.
Minimum Work Experience Requirements:
Lecturing/online lecturing experience in Instructional Design
Two years in curriculum development and design, Teaching Experience, or facilitation of corporate education.
Working Conditions:
- This is an Online part-time position.
- Online Lecturing and academic delivery to ensure students are guided and supported in their learning to achieve module outcomes.
