IntroductionThe position plays an important role in the product lifecycle process by gathering and analysing data relating to market trends as well as data consumer needs and testing that against other parties that provided similar data which include specialist data vendors and other exchanges, thereby informing the design of new products and the improvement of products.This role owns the research agenda, with accountability for how insights inform strategic product or commercial decisions. The person will require a sufficient knowledge of JSE data domains, to assist with defining product constructs to fit client demand.With an understanding of the market the person will be involved in product pricing, client testing and product marketing.A keen eye for detail and a methodical approach to collecting insights from various sources, including customer feedback, competitor analysis, and market studies. By synthesising this information, the person plays an instrumental role in shaping product strategies, ensuring that product offerings are well-aligned with consumer expectations and industry shifts.The insights and recommendations provide a foundation for informed decision-making and innovative and appropriate product development.
Conduct market and competitor research
• Identify market trends and consumer preferences to determine new product opportunities and current product enhancements.
• Develop and implement research methodologies and data collection plans to gather reliable and valid data.
• Analyse competitor products, pricing, and market strategies to benchmark and position new products competitively. Give commercial insight and recommendations to pricing forum.
• Assess the viability and potential impact of new product ideas using SWOT analysis and other strategic evaluation tools.
• Add value by being on the lookout for new ways to conduct business and look for opportunities in terms of formats, frequencies, dissemination methodologies to contribute to increased revenue.
• Use research experience to engage clients using judgement on what elements to probe further to influence product direction and determine priority of products in the pipeline.
Assess client needs and translate that into new product ideas or improvements to current products
• Leverage relationships with account officers and other JSE business teams to understand and identify external parties sourcing JSE information like financial institutions, fund managers, member firms and media, both domestic and international.
• Use all forms of communication to build sustainable relationships with internal and external clients.
• Understand and document the client needs by conducting needs analysis, to establish their requirements.
• Understand and incorporate the needs, and challenges of the different JSE Divisions that relate to client facing data products.
• Facilitate focus groups and user testing sessions to gather feedback on product concepts and prototypes.
Present new product ideas and current product improvements recommendations
• Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarising research findings, insights, and recommendations for stakeholders.
• Embed a research culture and client input into the product lifecycle. Manage the client research workstream and coordinate with Market Data Analysts.
• Ensure that analysis outputs are complete, accurate and insightful so that all proposals and recommendations can be based on solid analysis.
• Ensure all reports to management and EXCO are fluent, and professional so that they can be clearly understood and so enable high quality decisions to be made.
• For approved product new product/changed product ideas, translate into high level product requirements for the market product analysts to take further through the Product Lifecyle process to either create prototypes or final products.
Manage work and personal development
• Epitomise living the JSE values, displaying professional conduct and adherence to required technical standards.
• Manage own delivery against agreed delivery plan and set timelines, identify obstacles to delivery and take appropriate action where required.
• Improve personal capability and professional growth relating to field of expertise, in line with JSE objectives by discussing development needs and proposed solutions with management.
• Upskill other team members by sharing knowledge where appropriate.
Minimum Qualification
A Product Researcher will have a Bachelor’s degree as a minimum. The degree should be in fields like Marketing, Business Administration, or a related discipline emphasizing analytical skills, market analysis, and consumer behaviour.
Coursework in statistics, research methodologies, and product development is highly beneficial.
Minimum Experience
Minimum 5-7 years’ experience on the below:
• Administrative procedures and systems
• Basic software applications (e.g., MS Dynamics, Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, Internet, Email)
• Project Management principles
• JSE systems involved in data production and distribution – beneficial

Duties
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Product Operations and Dev teams on different problems to create actionable insights

About the Opportunity
We’re on the lookout for skilled Data Scientists to join our team at MoonPay. You’ll be pivotal in driving business growth and maximizing our product performance. What you will do
- Provide insights and recommendations to stakeholders based on a deep understanding of MoonPay products, and be able to identify and drive new opportunities for product improvements & enhanced customer experiences
- Work closely with the product teams and business stakeholders to review product performance, look for opportunities to optimize our products, and deliver data driven strategies for increased product performance
- Define KPIs, design tracking and set up monitoring for new product launches & changes
- Oversee and implement A/B tests and other experiments to drive forward optimization efforts
- Design, build and scale both internal and external data products, which drive informed decision making, examples include: dashboards, reports, data models, algorithms, integrations into other product lines
- Communicate complex concepts and findings to technical and non-technical audiences across different teams, while ensuring clarity and understanding to drive critical business decisions
- Independently lead projects from end-to-end
- Prioritise and manage competing tasks and deadlines effectively, aligning with goals and adapting to changing priorities
- Contribute to our overall approach and standards within the data discipline
- Be proactive in spearheading initiatives to support stakeholders and business partners around the organisation
- 2-5+ years of hands-on experience as a data scientist or data analyst, preferably in a product-focused role
- Advanced SQL, data modelling, and data visualisation tools are second nature to you
- You have an understanding of the fundamentals of statistics and probability, including experience in conducting large-scale A/B tests
- You have experience working with product teams in an analytics role
- An active interest in cryptocurrency, and have interacted with crypto/blockchains in the past

- Interpreting and implementing new business and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborating with SDMs, finance teams, and business stakeholders.
- Driving data improvements that support better decision-making.
- Designing, building, and maintaining robust and scalable data pipelines.
- Writing complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
- Monitoring and troubleshooting data workflows and processes.
- Ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and quality across systems.
- Contributing to data architecture and documentation standards.
- Participating in code reviews, agile ceremonies, and team planning.
- Working with large datasets in structured and unstructured formats.
- Automating repetitive data tasks and optimising performance.
We’re looking for someone who is naturally curious, proactive, and solution-driven. You enjoy digging into complex problems, asking the right questions, and building data solutions that make an impact.
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- 3–5 years of experience in a Data Engineering role, with a proven track record of delivering reliable, scalable data solutions.
- Strong proficiency in SQL, with the ability to write complex queries and work with large datasets.
- Experience working in cloud environments, particularly with AWS and Snowflake.
- Experience with Python is beneficial, but not mandatory for the role.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- A solid understanding of data engineering best practices, pipelines, and the data development lifecycle.
- A genuine sense of curiosity and an eagerness to ask “why” and “how” to get to the root of challenges.
- While prior experience in the insurance industry is not a requirement, it is highly advantageous.
