Job Advert Summary

TB HIV Care (THC), in existence since 1929, is an internationally recognised non-profit organisation. We provide health care services throughout South Africa to both the general population and communities at increased risk for HIV and TB, including adolescent girls and young women, sex workers and people who use drugs. Purpose of the position:

To provide oversight and technical support to THC data capturers through facility level supervision and support visits (e.g. visit a facility once every two months), capacity building and data quality assurance (e.g. apply data verification tool every second visit to a facility and leave facility with an action plan). To support the flow of facility level data for accurate and timeous weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reporting.

Minimum Requirements
  • NQF level 6 or equivalent qualification in data management or statistics, health, public health, social sciences, information technology, or related field will be an advantage
  • At least 3 years' experience in data quality management, verification, conducting routine data quality assessments (RDQA) or data quality audits
  • Experience in working on donor-funded projects is desirable
  • Good understanding and experience in using one of the following NDoH information management systems (District Health Information System (DHIS), TIER.Net, Electronic Drug Resistance Register (EDRWEB), and/ Patient Record and Health Management Information System (PREHIMS) or Primary Health Care Information System (PHCIS), will be an added advantage
  • Valid driver's licence and be willing to travel
  • Clear criminal record
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance to facility and community staff, relating to the effective ways to implement and adhere to the six key stages of data management
  • Work with the M&E officers to develop and implement data quality assessment tools
  • Conduct regular data verification visits, including detailed checking of reported data against source documents
  • Ensure that data management systems and procedures are in place, implemented and adhered to
  • Oversee TB project data management reports, as well as participate in data review meetings
  • Conduct routine data quality assessments (RDQA) / data quality audits
  • Write professional reports and provide feedback on data quality issues detected.
  • Perform basic data analysis with the view to provide recommendations on improvement of data quality measures and controls
  • Supervise data capturers within the sub-district to ensure that the data captured is valid, complete and has integrity
  • Promote data usage for continuous quality improvement through feedback, training and capacity building activities
  • Assist data capturers, facility and community staff, to develop data quality management plan (DQMP) to maintain data quality standards
