Job Purpose

To support and maintain the data warehouse in line with the data model; metadata repository and to provide business intelligence analysis through performing strategic and operational support.

Job Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals by participating in Nedbank Culture building initiatives (e.g. staff surveys etc).
  • Participate and support corporate social responsibility initiatives for the achievement of key business strategies.

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

We are seeking a pragmatic and forward-thinking Data Engineer to define and scale our data capabilities. Key Responsibilities
  1. Design, build, and manage reliable, scalable data pipelines using batch and streaming techniques (e.g., ELT/ETL, Kafka, Airflow).
  2. Own and evolve the structure and architecture of our Data Lakehouse and medallion architecture.
  3. Develop robust processes for data ingestion, validation, transformation, and delivery across multiple systems and sources.

  • Strong SQL skills.

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:

  • 10 years of overall experience & at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • 5 years of experience working with Azure data factory & Databricks in a retail environment


Skills :

  • Bachelor's degree required; Computer Science Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience working in data engineering or architecture role.
  • Expertise in SQL and data analysis and experience with at least one programming language (Scala and .NET preferred).
  • Experience developing and maintaining data warehouses in big data solutions.
  • Experience with, Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, and Databricks) in the data and analytics space is a must
  • Database development experience using Hadoop or Big Query and experience with a variety of relational, NoSQL, and cloud data lake technologies.
  • Worked with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, Shiny.
  • Conceptual knowledge of data and analytics, such as dimensional modelling, ETL, reporting tools, data governance, data warehousing, and structured and unstructured data.
  • Big Data Development experience using Hive, Impala, Spark, and familiarity with Kafka.
  • Exposure to machine learning, data science, computer vision, artificial intelligence, statistics, and/or applied mathematics.


Languages:

  • Fluency in verbal and written English mandatory.
  • Fluency in Spanish & French is useful.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to design, develop, optimize, and manage robust, highly available data analytics infrastructure, reports, and data models. This role drives the delivery of high-quality data analytics solutions for data ingestion, storage, consumption, and management to generate actionable insights. Reporting to the Technical Team Lead and Software Development Manager, you will play a critical role in advancing our data capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Data Pipeline Development : Build and maintain scalable data pipelines for efficient data ingestion, processing, and storage.
  • ETL Processes : Develop and automate ETL workflows to integrate data from diverse sources seamlessly.
  • Database Management : Manage SQL and NoSQL databases to handle structured and unstructured data effectively.
  • Data Quality Assurance : Ensure data integrity, consistency, and security through proactive monitoring.
  • Collaboration : Partner with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to enable data-driven decision-making.
  • Documentation : Create clear, detailed documentation for data workflows, architectures, and processes.
  • Performance Optimization : Enhance database performance through tuning, query optimization, and indexing.
  • Cloud & Big Data Technologies : Support and expand expertise in cloud-based platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelors or Honours Degree in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, or Information Systems.
  • 3 -5 years in data engineering, analytics, or data management roles.
  • 3+ years working with sales, channel, or business development teams.
  • 3+ years delivering customer-facing projects.
  • 3+ years in the cybersecurity industry.
  • 3+ years using agile methodologies for project delivery.
Systems & Proficiency
  • Certification in AWS, Microsoft, or other Business Intelligence technologies.
  • Expertise in Databricks and Python Notebooks.
  • Advanced skills in Power BI, DAX, Advanced Excel, Python, SQL Server, and SQL Scripting.
  • Proficiency in creating technical architectures, entity relationship diagrams, and process flow diagrams.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build real-time ETL pipelines integrating Asana, SharePoint, AcceleratorApp, Fluxx, and Jibble.
  • Design and implement scalable data lake and warehouse architectures supporting over 300,000 beneficiaries.
  • Develop robust API connections with error handling and retry mechanisms.
  • Optimize data synchronization to occur within 5 minutes, processing 100,000+ records per hour.
Essential Skills:
  • 5+ years experience with Python, Java, or Scala for data engineering
  • Proficiency with Apache Spark, Kafka, or similar streaming technologies
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred, AWS acceptable)
  • Expertise in API integration and RESTful services
  • Skilled in SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Knowledge of data lake and warehouse architectures (e.g., Delta Lake, Databricks)
  • ETL/ELT pipeline development and real-time data processing
Desirable Skills:
  • Microsoft Azure Data Factory

Experience:
