Overview

Data Center Technicians are the primary resolver and troubleshoot and solve a range of datacenter infrastructure issues including, but not limited to: hardware, fiber, networking, and related problems. You will be part of the Data Center Operations (DCO) team, overseeing the operation and maintenance of the IT infrastructure and hardware for data centers in AWS Cloud regions. You will become the primary resolver for your support team, and gain troubleshooting skills on different hardware and software cases. You will be able to troubleshoot and solve most infrastructure issues and engage other appropriate solutions groups on more complex problems to drive solutions.

Following is a brief Job Description of this Data Center Technician Position :

Our customer has a Data center which has various devices. Our Customer is not looking for a Network Admin but need help with their physical data center tasks such as consoling and giving access to the NOC engineer on call, labelling fiber and cat6 cables, rack & stack, cabling, verifying racks and devices, replacing or adding SFP’s, sending receiving new equipment etc. Basically a person who has worked in a data center environment and can carefully do the above tasks without disturbing the existing equipment. They just want you to be eyes and hands for them in the Data center. That’s a brief one but you will be given an orientation before you would start working for them once they think you are good. For now, you need to be just confident on your data center working environment experience and the basic networking stuff. Our customer is looking for at least 2 years of Data Center experience . Also, this is a per diem job. Hours Vary.

Before we can start, they want to be on a 10-15 min pre-screening call with you.

Skills Required :

  • Hands-on experience withCrossover, Rollover or Straight Through Cabling.
  • Clear understanding of Multimode & Single mode.
  • Identification of PDU’s and various cord types such as C13, C14 and C19.
  • Hands-On experience with Structured cabling and home run.
  • In depth knowledge ofTwinax or Multimode for connecting Cisco UCS to fiber connect.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Data Center Genset Engineer to join our team on a 3-month contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of diesel generator sets (DG) in a data center environment, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain all diesel generator units, scheduling routine maintenance and repairing faults.
  • Install and inspect DG units to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Maintain internal electrical and electronic control systems, including PLCs.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations and prepare reports on any violations.
  • Keep comprehensive documentation of project activities and maintain accurate records.
  • Manage inventory of parts and service truck stock.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and timely repairs on DG systems.
  • Interpret blueprints and ensure compliance with mechanical and electrical codes.
  • Liaise with suppliers to order parts and ensure timely repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment.

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in diesel generator installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Prior experience in data centers or large industrial facilities preferred.
  • Experience with Mitsubishi and Perkins generators is an advantage.
  • Must hold a valid Wireman License and Trade Test.
  • Relevant qualifications such as Higher National Diploma, National Diploma, or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering accredited by SAQA.
  • Professional Engineering Technician accreditation or equivalent experience recognized by the Engineering Council of South Africa.
  • Ability to work independently and ensure high-quality, efficient work.
  • Strong knowledge of safety and regulatory compliance in electrical and mechanical trades.

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate

Preferred Qualification

  • Cisco Data Centre specialist / CCIE /BGP/OSPF/Scripting for Automation

Minimum Experience Level

  • Experience of at least 8-10 years in the following disciplines within the Financial sector:
  • Cisco Skills - ACI / NDI / NDO / Cisco Dashboard /NXOS traditional

Key Responsibilities : Project Planning & Execution Develop and manage detailed project plans, budgets, and timelines Oversee execution of data center builds, upgrades, and migrations Ensure alignment with business goals, IT strategy, and compliance standards Identify, assess, and mitigate risks to ensure smooth project delivery Monitor progress and address potential delays with proactive solutions Lead communication with internal teams and external vendors Manage SLAs, vendor contracts, and procurement activities Compliance & Documentation Ensure adherence to industry best practices and regulatory standards Maintain project documentation, quality assurance, and performance reports Requirements : Qualifications & Experience : Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Project Management, or related field 5+ years' experience managing complex data center projects Deep understanding of power, cooling, networking, and security infrastructure Preferred Certifications : CDCP, CDCS, PMP, ITIL Experience in cloud / hybrid infrastructure and automation tool May involve working in a 24 / 7 operational environment Occasional travel and physical work (e.g., raised-floor equipment handling) #J-18808-Ljbffr
