The Role
As Catering Sous Chef, you will play a central role in designing and delivering bespoke menus for weddings, conferences, and exclusive events. Youll combine culinary artistry with operational discipline, ensuring food that delights both the palate and the eye. Beyond cooking, you will oversee costings, guide junior staff, and actively engage with clients to elevate their experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver premium, petite-style catering with exceptional presentation standards
- Custom-create menus aligned with available equipment and event scope
- Maintain strong controls over procurement, stock management, and kitchen financials
- Confidently upsell menus during client site inspections and tastings
- Lead, train, and mentor junior kitchen staff to uphold standards of excellence
- Manage events of varying sizes typically 100 guests, with occasional functions up to 400 pax
- Stay hands-on and operational, ensuring seamless execution under pressure
- Uphold professional conduct, organisation, and administrative accuracy
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef, ideally in boutique hotels, premium catering, or event-focused kitchens
- Strong culinary background with creativity in bespoke menu design
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills
- Solid understanding of food costing, procurement, and kitchen administration
- Ability to thrive in a high-pressure, event-driven environment
- Own transport and accommodation in Potchefstroom
- Sober habits and professional kitchen discipline essential
