To manage and maintain risk-adjusted pricing and risk ratings in terms of Basel requirements, enabling value-based management and the continued implementation of the Internal Ratings Based Approach within investment banking.

Job Responsibilities

  • Interpret financial results based on annual financial statements or models, analyzing and extracting relevant information for the internal rating process.
  • Interact with the front office regarding transaction structures to determine relevant rating models and provide input on potential risk mitigations.
  • Assist credit managers with final ratings by preparing the Credit Risk Application (CRA) with supporting documents.
  • Advise credit managers and the front office by explaining returns and rating results.
  • Maintain good client relationships by providing timely guidance and accurate information to stakeholders.
  • Ensure consistency of information by summarizing inputs used for models for the front office.
  • Facilitate communication between model developers and the front office to meet client needs.
  • Meet deadlines through efficient work allocation, allowing analysts to work on different portfolios.
  • Ensure model appropriateness by interacting with credit managers and the front office regarding transactions.
  • Liaise with other risk departments for inputs required for credit ratings, providing updates and feedback on models.
  • Provide ad hoc training and coaching to junior and new staff within credit and Investment Banking.

    What you will be doing:

    • Develop analytics tools and strategies to enhance credit processes
    • Assist with building and improving analytical and reporting capabilities
    • Conduct quantitative research and develop credit models
    • Perform in-depth credit analysis and monitor risk of borrowers and issuers
    • Assess market trends and company fundamentals influencing credit investments
    • Monitor risk-adjusted returns and make portfolio optimisation recommendations
    • Originate new debt investments and engage with issuers and arrangers
    • Contribute to responsible investment strategies and ESG integration

    What we are looking for:

    • Miniumum of a Postgraduate degree in Finance, Engineering, Sciences or Masters
    • CA(SA) with Financial Services/FEG experience advantageous
    • CFA qualified or currently studying towards CFA/Masters
    • Strong financial modelling and advanced Excel skills - this is essential
    • Experience in Private Debt, Hybrid Debt, or Project Finance advantageous
    • Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical ability
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
    • Comfortable working in uncertain, complex environments
    • Results-driven, self-motivated, and energetic problem-solver
    • Strong EQ, assertive, confident, and open to diverse input
    • Passionate about investments and technology-savvy

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Evaluate and analyse creditworthiness of potential and existing clients
    • Prepare detailed financial and credit reports for decision-making
    • Review and assess asset finance transactions in line with group credit policies
    • Support effective credit approval and risk mitigation strategies
    • Maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external clients
    • Assist with ad hoc credit projects, audits, or strategic reviews
    • Ensure timely and accurate documentation for credit processes
    • Proactively manage own performance and contribute to team goals
    What You Bring:
    • Relevant Degree in Credit Risk Management or Accounting Qualification
    • Minimum 5 years' experience in a credit environment (asset finance sector preferred)
    • Strong analytical, commercial, and financial acumen
    • Knowledge of credit policies, collections strategies, and funder requirements
    • Proven ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage stakeholder relationships
    • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Industry-specific experience in asset-based lending or public sector finance
