We are currently looking for a Corporate Tax Manager within our Corporate Tax Business unit in Johannesburg
Purpose Of The Job
The Corporate Tax Manager is responsible for delivering comprehensive corporate tax consulting and advisory services in the areas inter alia mergers and acquisitions, due diligences, private equity, dispute resolution and tax controversy as well as other tax advisory services. Additionally, the corporate tax manager will be responsible for assistance with the execution of go to market activities in line with the strategic objectives of the firm, as well as the end-to-end management of engagements with clients across sectors /industries. .
Key Job Duties Or Responsibilities
- Address complex tax related problems and inquiries
- Maintain confidential relations with clients
- Effectively manage relationships with the relevant local authorities
- Interpret and apply local income tax and tax administration laws (including keeping up to date with changes to legislation as well as new developments in regulations and case law)
- Provide and articulate complex recommendations regarding tax solutions
- Manage, lead and develop junior team members and professional staff
- Demonstrate strong project management skills, and initial review skills
- Manage the administration of tax engagement related matters
- Manage the maintenance of essential tax records, reports and files
- Prepare clear and accurate reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations
- Achieve budgetary targets through effective work management
- Adapt to an evolving work environment and accommodate changing client demands
- Support the development of opportunities and collaboration across functions/units; and display relationship management abilities
- Oversee projects from initiation to completion (including risk and billings), and be able to work directly with the Partner or Associate Director in delivering a quality product on time
- Be able to identify risks and opportunities within existing client base and to secure new work.
- Contribute effectively to the discussions around work (knowledge sharing) and actively participate in generating creative ideas and thoughts
- Quick thinking and effective multi-tasking

- Assisting BDO to achieve its financial targets driving the BDO brand, business development, technical tax competence and client service in line with BDO values.

- 3+ years experience in VAT or similar financial role, demonstrating a strong understanding of VAT principles and regulations

BDO Cape Town has a vacancy for a Corporate Tax Senior Consultant within the corporate tax consulting business unit. The incumbent will be reporting to the Head of Corporate Tax Consulting. You will inter alia be responsible for:
- Assisting BDO to achieve its financial targets driving the BDO brand, business development, technical tax competence and client service in line with BDO values.
- Interpreting and applying theoretical knowledge to a practical business solution by utilising a sound knowledge of income tax and corporate law.
- Drafting technically correct opinions and reports for review and reviewing tax opinions and advise to be provided to clients and the audit department.
- Preparing and/or reviewing income tax and deferred tax computations.
- Reviewing tax computations for the audit department.
- Gathering information from different sources by using effective research tools.
- Assisting with the research and preparation of proposals.
- Identifying income tax issues arising at clients and use various tools and techniques to provide suggestions on how to solve them.
- Adapting to a changing work environment and accommodate changing client demands.
- Liaising with audit partners and audit staff with regards to tax issues.
- Liaising with SARS.
- Visiting clients to remediate tax issues and assist clients with SARS audit and queries.
- Managing and maintaining client relationships.
- Preparing and managing budgets, debtors and monthly invoices.

- CA(SA)
- BCom Honours or equivalent in taxation advantageous
- SAICA and/or SAIT
- CA(SA) articles
- Prior experience as a Corporate Tax consultant advantageous
