Our worldwide field engineering team apply expert insights to real-world customer problems, enabling the enterprise adoption of Ubuntu, OpenStack, Kubernetes, AI/MLOps and a wide range of associated technologies. We are experts in the whole open source stack, from kernel to desktop, from cloud to the edge. Our team is also interested in business problems - building things reliably, efficiently and cost-effectively, and we have to learn to speak the language of our customers and their industries.

We help global companies embrace public and private cloud infrastructure, cloud native operations, and open source applications. For this team we are looking for several Alliances Engineers to support OEM (hardware manufacturers), GSI (global system integrators), ISV (independent software vendors), Channel partners and Public Cloud alliance partners. You will support various alliances and partners of Canonical to adopt our products and technologies, help business leaders to define joint go-to-market programs with partners from the technical standpoint.

Location : This is a home-based role, we are hiring worldwide.

What your day will look like

  • Understand Ubuntu, Linux, networking and services in real-world environments
  • Architect cloud infrastructure solutions like Kubernetes, Kubeflow, OpenStack, Ceph, and Spark either On-Premises or in Public Cloud (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Architect and integrate popular open source software such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Kafka, Cassandra and NGINX
  • Help partners to offer and architect joint solutions utilizing Canonical's technologies on top of the public clouds and in the data center
  • Design and publish joint Reference Architectures and perform technical validations with various partners
  • Prepare and run onboarding sessions/workshops with various partners' teams to promote Canonical products and solutions

What we are looking for in you

  • Extensive experience with Linux (Ubuntu preferred), Kubernetes, Ceph, software automation
  • Experience designing and implementing solutions on top of public or private clouds
  • Python and bash understanding, troubleshooting skills
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • High motivation, ability to multi-task and follow-up reliably on commitments
  • Interest in customer-facing engagement, including pitching, demonstrating and understanding customer environment and needs
  • Interest in new technologies like LXD, Juju and Snaps
  • Ability to travel globally up to 30% of the time
  • Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or related technical field experience

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and regularly maintain a future-state Domain and/or ICT vision in line with the organisation's Business and IT Strategies.

  • Govern the Architecture Review Board to ensure Solution Architecture alignment with ICT Principles, ICT Standards, and Future State Vision.

  • Provide mentorship and coaching to all Architecture teams within the organisation.
  • Develop and regularly review and recommend updates to the organisation's Domain standards and IT Strategy.
  • Facilitate the organisation's knowledge and understanding of current and emerging technology for maximum business benefit.
  • Calculate the organisation's Domain Technical Debt and ensure regular communication to the Head of Architecture.

  • Lead the achievement of Cloud Architecture Solutions across multiple disciplines and domains.
  • Support the achievement of the business strategy, objectives, and values.
  • Seek opportunities to improve business processes, models, and systems through agile thinking.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:

  • Solid knowledge of multi-vendor service integrations and cross-functional software, OS’s, and infrastructure designs.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Knowledgeable on how specific infrastructures and application software are deployed in line with relevant methodologies and frameworks.
  • Ability to develop and leverage knowledge of reference architectures.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of trends and development in technology domains.

Academic Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Qualification in Information Technology or Information Systems.
  • Certification and working knowledge of Enterprise Architecture methodologies (e.g. TOGAF, Zachman, SOA, ITIL, COBIT, etc.).
  • SAFe Scaled Agile certification advantageous.

Specific Role Responsibilities

Design: Ensure that hybrid and cloud environments are designed to best practice standards for resilience and availability to ensure the highest SLAs are maintained.

Automation: Build infrastructure deployment code and pipelines to enable the automated deployment and management of infrastructure in the cloud and on-premises.

Availability : Ensure that uptime SLAs are met every month for cloud infrastructure solutions that you are responsible for, by managing and resolving issue logs; lifecycle management of deployed infrastructure solutions.

Performance : Ensure that performance SLAs are met every month for cloud solutions that you are responsible for by monitoring systems, network performance, capacity and growth; suggesting and implementing performance improvements.

Information Security : Ensure that the cloud environments are internally and externally secure by following existing policies and procedures and documenting for audit purposes as required; implementing security controls and remediations; completing risk assessments and build guides for new and existing systems. Align the environment to the Group’s security standards.

Systems Resilience : Ensure that cloud environments are secure and backed up by ensuring that regular backups are made and are tested. Participate in yearly BCP & DR tests. Ensure that cloud management is in line with company requirements and departmental policy for resilience and availability. Document and keep solution design, business continuity plans and standard operating procedure documents up to date.

Training : Develop professional and technical knowledge and skills. Provide technical advice and mentoring within the team.

Project Work : Implement new projects to meet project timelines. Work in a matrix structure with multi-national teams.

Budget : Recommend changes that could reduce costs in your areas of responsibility.

Experience required

  • Degree qualified or equivalent industry certifications and relevant experience

Job Description

We are seeking ahigh-impact Cloud Infrastructure Engineer with deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP)to join our AI & Data consulting practice as aSenior Consultant. This is a technical leadership role focused on the design, deployment, and optimization of scalable cloud infrastructure and services on especially GCP.

You will work alongside multidisciplinary teams of AI engineers, data scientists, and data engineers to build secure, production-ready platforms that power transformative AI and Data solutions for our clients across the African continent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect and implementsecure, scalable, and automated cloud infrastructureon GCP to support data platforms, AI/ML workloads, and cloud-native applications.
  • Lead infrastructure design and provisioning usingInfrastructure as Code (IaC)tools such asTerraformandDeployment Manager.
  • Enablenetwork design, security hardening, and CI/CDfor cloud-native and hybrid environments.

GCP expertise

  • Design, configure, and optimizecore GCP servicesincluding:
  • Cloud Monitoring, Identity and Access Management (IAM), VPC networking
  • Apply best practices forcost optimization, monitoring, observability, and performance tuningacross cloud environments.

Consulting & Delivery

  • Translate business and functional requirements into robust cloud solutions.
  • Collaborate with engagement managers, architects, and technical leads to ensure seamless delivery of cloud infrastructure within time and budget.
  • Contribute to proposals, client presentations, and architecture documentation.

DevSecOps & Governance

  • Integrate cloud governance frameworks including security controls, audit readiness, and compliance requirements (e.g., POPIA, GDPR).
  • Implement DevOps pipelines with GCP-native and third-party tooling for CI/CD and automated testing.
Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ yearsof experience in cloud engineering or infrastructure roles with astrong GCP track record.
  • Proven experience designing and deploying production-grade infrastructure using GCP services.
  • Strong knowledge ofTerraform,Linux administration, andcontainer orchestration (e.g., GKE/Kubernetes).
  • Solid experience withCI/CD practices, DevOps tooling, and infrastructure automation.
  • Deep understanding ofnetworking, identity, IAM, encryption, and cloud security fundamentals.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and consulting skills.
  • Ability to operate in ahigh-performance consulting environmentand engage directly with enterprise clients.

Advantageous:

  • Experience with Azure cloud servicesor hybrid-cloud implementations.
  • GCP certifications (e.g.,Professional Cloud Architect,Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer).
