The post is targeted at a veterinarian who wishes to become a clinical specialist in Equine Medicine by completing an MMedVet degree. RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will actively participate in the following areas:

• An advanced training programme in Equine Medicine with the view of obtaining the MMedVet (Equine Medicine) degree;
• Didactic teaching and practical training of undergraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students;
• Departmental research and publications;
• Providing a clinical service in the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital and surrounding community, including a 24-hour service; and
• Community engagement activities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• BVSc-degree or BVMCh or equivalent professional veterinary qualification;
• Registration with the SAVC or eligibility for registration within one year of appointment; and
• Two years' veterinary clinical experience with a focus on equine practice completed upon commencement of appointment or one-year rotating clinical internship in equine animal medicine and surgery. The CCS year may be considered as a year of clinical experience, provided that evidence, such as a case log, can be provided to this effect.

Reports to the Nursing Services Manager

• Responsible for the facilitation of teaching and learning of the theoretical and clinical component in a clinical setting

• Integral part of the Critical Care team with the primary focus of bed side teaching through demonstration, job shadowing, role modelling mentoring and guidance at the bedside of all processes

• The integration and mitigation of risk management at the bedside will be a primary objective to reduce risk to the group and improve patient outcomes

• Provide services for both the in-service and formal clinical training programs through the coordination of learning opportunities, at both the formal and informal level

• Support evidence-based practice by encouraging participation in research.

• The Clinical Facilitator will play an integral role in the upskilling of staff to use equipment, ethical and consumables safely in accordance safely in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines.

Auditing patient files to ensure that all stock including consignment stock and services i.e. surgical, ethical, equipment, oxygen, theatre gases and tariffs are billed by actual usage and within the NHN guide.

Auditing of patient files and verification of data i.e. Admission and Discharge Dates, membership options and dependent codes are correct. Daily Billing of Oxygen, Modifiers and Ventilators.

Auditing of long stay In Patients Auditing of patient files to ensure that billing is according to the NHN guide and Melomed Billings Policies and Procedures.

Ensuring that files are received and audited timeously and sent to the relevant departments to maintain the target of final billing files within 3 Days.

Following up and resolving queries to ensure that the targets are maintained.

Application of clinical knowledge in reviewing ICD and CPT coding of patient accounts. Compilation of reports for over and under billing.

Adherence to deadlines.

Administrative tasks.

Adhoc and administrative duties as requested by line Manager.

Filing.

Ability to stay abreast of industry trends and knowledge.

Keep up to date and compliance with Melomed's Policies and Procedures.
