To qualify for the role, you must have

  1. A degree or postgraduate degree (preferably a Master’s-level degree) in a technical climate change field (e.g., environmental management, energy engineering, climate change), as well as experience and/or qualifications in a business management-related field (e.g., financial, legal, change management, strategy etc.) and 3 years of relevant experience
  2. Strong technical writing skills and advanced analytical skills
  3. Experience in climate change specific topics will be an advantage, such as:
  • Ability to complete GHG assessments and carbon accounting in line with good international practice, e.g., ISO 14064 and the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard
  • Understanding of the South African regulatory regime for climate change, including carbon tax, pollution prevention plans, energy management plans, carbon offsets, carbon budgets and energy reporting
  • Exposure to various climate change disclosures such as the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) or Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and potentially experience in assurance of climate change related sustainability data as part of company’s annual reporting in line with GRI/ SABS
  • Other potential skills related to Life-cycle assessment (LCA) and related cradle to grave assessment tools, energy (resource) efficiency assessments and management systems in line with ISO 50001, Science Based Targets development, and Marginal Abatement Cost Curves (MACC)

In this role, you will be delighting our clients (developers, IPPs, banks, investors etc.) with your projects under construction follow reporting, design and technology review, energy yield estimations for utility scale solar PV or wind projects while gradually getting trained in performing feasibility studies, either from the office or during site inspections.

Your main tasks will be:

  • You will perform technical feasibility studies.
  • You will manage the project and oversee its progress from start to finish.
  • You will manage the project under construction and provide follow-up reporting.
  • You will review contracts and overall project design, technology, and suggest potential improvements.

We are looking for a dynamic colleague who is eager to learn, who can bring an open and flexible mindset and who has very strong organisational skills.

Of course, there are some non-negotiables:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent through experience (Master's degree is a plus)
  • You have a minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience.
  • You are familiar with technical due diligence on SOLAR/BESS and/or WIND projects.
  • You are familiar with reviewing and specifically experienced with PV EPC, O&M, PPA and Wind turbine contracts review (EPC, WTG supply contract, O&M, PPA) , as Lender’s/ Owner’s technical advisor.
  • You have experience working with Lenders and IPP's (Independent Power Producers).
  • You have experience with technical solar and/or wind turbine inspections construction monitoring.
  • You have been involved in both feasibility studies and project execution phases, including technical assessments, performance analysis, and system optimization.
  • You have strongoverall computer skills and the ability to learn multiple software tools.
  • You have a critical mind and are able to question ideas and assumptions.
  • You have very good organizational skills and are able to manage multiple jobs simultaneously, on time, budget and quality.
  • You have the ability of conveying information in a clear and concise way and adapting your communication style to suit different types of audiences.
  • You are fluent in spoken and written English.

To anchor our leading market position and sustain our growth, we are looking for an enthusiastic Solar PV or Wind Renewable Energy Engineer with experience to join our team based in Cape Town, where you will be working with our team of experienced experts who your continuous sounding board while you serve the needs of our customers.

Your job will be versatile and dynamic: one day you will be with your boots on, inspecting a construction site when the other day you will be behind your PC screen analysing the expected yield or fine-tuning a PV design.

In this role, you will be delighting our clients (developers, IPPs, banks, investors etc.) with your projects under construction follow reporting, design and technology review, energy yield estimations for utility scale solar PV or wind projects while gradually getting trained in performing feasibility studies, either from the office or during site inspections.

Your main tasks will be:

  • You will perform technical feasibility studies.
  • You will manage the project and oversee its progress from start to finish.
  • You will manage the project under construction and provide follow-up reporting.
  • You will review contracts and overall project design, technology, and suggest potential improvements.
  • You will perform the energy yield calculations using industry-recognised software tools and internal tools and processes.
  • You will report to clients and lenders.
  • You will perform site inspections before, during and after construction of the projects.
  • You will interact directly with customers, written as well as verbally.

You will work within the core of our consultancy team which will give you all at hand to quickly explore the wonderful solar PV/BESS and/or wind energy world. At first, you will work as an expert on a project managed by one of your colleagues and gradually you will be taking the role of project manager yourself.

You will be reporting within our Africa team which is a combination of Due Diligence experts, Owner's Engineers and Resource Assessment experts.

Requirements

We are looking for a dynamic colleague who is eager to learn, who can bring an open and flexible mindset and who has very strong organisational skills.

Of course, there are some non-negotiables:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent through experience (Master's degree is a plus)
  • You have a minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience.
  • You are familiar with technical due diligence on SOLAR/BESS and/or WIND projects.
  • You are familiar with reviewing and specifically experienced with PV EPC, O&M, PPA and Wind turbine contracts review (EPC, WTG supply contract, O&M, PPA) , as Lender’s/ Owner’s technical advisor.
  • You have experience working with Lenders and IPP's (Independent Power Producers).
  • You have experience with technical solar and/or wind turbine inspections construction monitoring.
  • You have been involved in both feasibility studies and project execution phases, including technical assessments, performance analysis, and system optimization.
  • You have strongoverall computer skills and the ability to learn multiple software tools.
  • You have a critical mind and are able to question ideas and assumptions.
  • You have very good organizational skills and are able to manage multiple jobs simultaneously, on time, budget and quality.
  • You have the ability of conveying information in a clear and concise way and adapting your communication style to suit different types of audiences.
  • You are fluent in spoken and written English.
  • You have an affinity and interest for everything related to renewable energy.
  • You have a valid working permit in South Africa.

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Knowledge on PVsyst, AutoCAD, PVCase, WindPro, DigSilent, Homer …
  • Available for short trips abroad.
