Role Description

Your responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Senior Civil & Structural Engineer with relevant design house experience to join our Civil & Structural Engineering team.

The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the job as summarised below, but not limited to:

• Design / manage design by others, of the civil and structural works in accordance with the requirements of the client.
• As Lead Engineer oversee and coordinate the execution of civil and structural engineering on projects.
• Liaise with other engineering disciplines and gather information required for the structural designs.
• Prepare design criteria and specifications.
• Prepare technical reports and project close-out reports.
• Compile the relevant portions of the contract schedule/assist to evaluate the contract schedule in collaboration with the Project Scheduler.
• During the course of the contract assist with monitoring the contract schedule and budget and make recommendations for appropriate action as and when required.

• A BSc / B.Eng. (Civil Engineering)
• Be a Registered Professional Engineer with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).

• Qualifications
• BSc/BEng Civil or Structural Engineering is a minimum requirement.
• ECSA Pr.Eng registration is a minimum requirement (3 years post ECSA Registration).

• Lead design and analysis of mining-related infrastructure (shafts, headgears, conveyors, plants, dams, heavy civils surface structures, steel structures).
• Oversee engineering content, design drawings, and technical documentation to ensure compliance with client and regulatory standards.
• Interface with clients, presenting designs and driving decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with South African codes (SANS, SANS 10100, etc.) and international standards.
• Prepare, review, and manage engineering deliverables, including specifications, calculations, reports, and evaluations; contribute to capital estimates and man-hour budgets.
• Monitor project progress, manage scope changes, and provide budget and schedule feedback to the Project Engineering.
• Provide technical direction, review tenders, and support construction through site inspections and technical queries.
• Conduct site investigations, analyse data for feasibility studies, and draft scopes of work for specialist studies.
• Liaise with external consultants on design scoping, progress, quality, and modifications; identify and witness key inspection points.
• Develop internal guidelines and engineering standards; produce as-built drawings, technical reports, and bills of quantities.
• Produce and review engineering deliverables: design criteria, specifications, models, and drawings.
• Support tender processes by attending briefings, contributing to documentation, and assisting pricing calculations.
• Provide engineering support during procurement, construction, commissioning, and warranty periods, update risk management registers and report on construction status.
• Manage and lead the Civil and structural team. This includes managing the teams hours, training and resourcing for projects as well as assisting the Technical Business Lead with the strategic alignment of the business.
• Mentor junior and intermediate engineers and check their design outputs.
• Sign off designs as the Pr. Eng.
