Responsibilities
  • The incumbent should be able to conduct studies on power generation systems and optimisation thereof and be familiar with relevant software tools.

Responsibilities and Requirements

· Develop periodically the operational objectives and key performance indicators for asset utilisation and capacity maximization for each equipment and/or process within the department.Applies scientific and engineering knowledge in support of Production, Maintenance and Equipment reliability with emphasis on process reliability and predictability.

· Conduct system feasibility studies and testing.

· Technically support AMSA plants and projects as and when required.

Experience and Requirements:

  • 5-8 years’ experience in Process or Reliability Engineering
  • 5 years’ experience working in the Steel Industry will be an advantage
  • Exposure to utility generation/distribution/treatment (steam, compressed air, power, water, electricity) will be advantageous
  • Exposure to integrated utility distribution systems will be advantageous
  • Excellent understanding and application of project management principles
  • Experience in preventative maintenance processes, condition monitoring, Root-Cause Analysis, risk management, etc.
  • Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously

  • Experience performing all modelling, simulations and calculations required to specify all protection settings (LV to HV) required in a typical renewable power plant (experience performing the same for synchronous generator plants, industrial/mining operations or complex transmission/distribution grids is considered an advantage)
  • Experience with AC and DC arc flash studies/calculations
  • Knowledge of the South African transmission and distribution systems and South African Grid Code and current industry developments
  • Postgraduate degree (Masters or higher) in engineering and registration (or working towards registration) with ECSA as a Professional Engineer
  • Experience planning and project managing on site protection commissioning or maintenance testing, including preparation of method statements and documentation required for site safety files
  • Experience with grid code compliance and/or grid impact studies for generation interconnections
  • Experience performing any electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies (preferably using PSCAD)
  • Experience performing earthing studies using CDEGS or XGSLab
