Job Objectives

To work within the Projects department team, as a Project Manager:

To successfully manage and co-ordinate the process of operations from when the orders are received from customers, to obtaining full project sign-off and payment by the customer for such orders. Managing risks, ensuring project as well as payment milestones are met, while maintaining a good customer relationship.

Main Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Technical / Project Risk:
  • Liaise with project sales department in establishing cost and time effective concepts for customer beneficial use.
  • Establish full understanding of the scope of work on project inception.
  • Obtain all the customer's requirements for the order received.
  • Assess the feasibility of requirement for the order received.
  • Continually liaise with customer ensuring project requirements e.g., technical specifications, drawings, etc. are made available timeously, as well as supplying updated project status reports.
  • Project Milestones:
  • Establish a project plan, accommodating the financial and timing constraints supporting order requirements.
  • Determine resource requirements for the established project plan.
  • Liaise with customers to consolidate and finalise the project timing and delivery arrangements.
  • Through the duration of the project, any date changes on the project schedule, are to be managed and effected by the Project Manager.
  • With the support of a structured Project management team (Hod's), the Project Manager is to ensure the successful completion of the project, as established and determined by received order.
  • Chair weekly scope of work meetings, to consolidate project status with project management team.
  • Quality:
  • Support JQS (Jendamark Quality System).
  • General Management, supporting the company Code of Conduct and all company policies.
  • To supporting the wellbeing and the best interests of the company.

    Assist Project Engineering Manager to develop operational department year plan.

    Setup project during enquiry and award stages respectively and appoint associated project teams.

    Obtain Client approval of the scope of supply, delivery schedule, price and commercial conditions.

    Compile a HS&E Plan for the project and ensure required Health, Safety and Environmental procedures and other requirements are adhered to throughout the project phases.

    Manage the execution of the project.

    Monitor and control expenditure to ensure delivery within the approved project budget.

    Communicate with supplier’s regarding technical issues and expediting.

    Manage the approval of all project change requests and ensure that financial and schedule implications are considered and documented.

    Obtain Client acceptance of each deliverable produced by the project.

    Resolve all issues affecting the project and alert the Project Engineering Manager when it becomes apparent that the project constraints will not be met.

    Ensure compliance with the configuration management system.

    Manage the project proposal phase.

    Manage the project design and engineering process to completion.

    Manage all project procurement.

    Manage the fabrication, assembly and delivery phases of the project.

    Manage the installation and commissioning phases of the project to ensure takeover and handover.

    Hard requirements:

    B. Tech / B. Sc / B. Eng degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering;

    10 -12 years of relevant project management experience.


    Qualifications & Competencies:

    Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA;

    Knowledge base and experience within the Mining, Oil and Gas, Mineral Processing or Heavy Engineering sectors;

    • Direct and coordinate the development of strategies to evaluate the effectiveness of implemented project outcomes and provide advice on remedial action.
    • Manage the expenditure of project budgets and prepare associated financial summary reports for members of the steering committee and functional leaders.
    • Conduct Alpha and Beta Trials in Field for Product validation process.
    • Responsible for ensuring the Activities right from Project Initiation to Project Launch.
    • Prepare project status reports and other reports required as per project management methodologies of VBS

    Your mission

    • Tractebel is primarily an Owner’s Engineer, who provides technical, design, project management and problem solving support to its Clients. The Project Managers in our team work closely with Project Engineers, Design Engineers and Installation/Construction/Maintenance/Inspection Contractors to co-ordinate engineering efforts and solve problems. Generally they ensure that projects and problem solving happens within budget and on schedule, at the appropriate level of Quality and Safety.
    • Contract development and Management is a key output
    • Managing Quality, Cost and Time
    • Client interface
    • Tender development
    • Managing the project financials including Invoicing, claims and ensuring profitability.

    Your Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and coordinate engineering project delivery across internal teams and external partners or subcontractors.
    • Translate client requirements into actionable project scopes and work packages.
    • Develop project schedules and take into account the requirements of meeting the key contractual dates
    • Monitor progress against schedules, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies
    • Facilitate design reviews and ensure integration of technical input across disciplines
    • Track budgets & control costs to ensure profitability.
    • Ensure contractual compliance against the agreed contract with Client.

    We would love to hear from people with

    • BSc (elec,,elctro-mech, or civil).
    • Candidates who are registered with ECSA and/or SACPCMP will have preference.
    • Engineering experience who wish to, or have transitioned into Project Management
    • 5 years of relevant experience in engineering environments such as:
    • Experience in engineering and/or technical project delivery.
    • Experience in power generation or energy infrastructure projects (Nuclear, Renewable, Gas-to-power experience preferred
    • Proven success at managing multi-disciplinary teams and complex deliverables.
    • Minimum of 2 years involved in projects with a Quality-Cost-Time focus

    • Versatile, with a can-do attitude and eagerness to learn within and across domains.
    • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Able to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and in teams.
    • Resilient and proactive in fast-paced, dynamic project environments.
    • Proficient in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, or similar).
    • Familiarity with contract execution, cost control, and stakeholder coordination.
    • Understanding of quality management systems and processes
    • Self-driven and self-disciplined.
    • Innovative within the bounds of engineering and organisational rules, is encouraged.
    • Values and implements leadership skills
    • Willing to travel occasionally for short-term assignments (international travel possible when the need arises).

    ROLE PURPOSE


    The PM is responsible to ensure that the entire project team including all other disciplines adhere to and deliver the Projects to strict time, quality and cost benchmarks including identifying, prioritizing, planning, authorizing, coordinating, managing, controlling, implementation and closing of projects, programs and other related work to achieve specific Project and Business Case Objectives.

    Project Management is primarily concerned with “doing projects right”, driving project execution and delivery and managing the internal stakeholder relationship.

    The PM is a position for self-managed individual that has to balance the needs of the Customer in terms of project delivery. This role requires the individual to lead the Project team and manage the Project deliverables.


    MAIN OUTPUTS

    CUSTOMER

    • Manage and maintain customer relations by the successful delivery of Projects as well as providing continuous feedback and reporting
    • Manage and maintain internal relations and engagements with the various work streams for the successful delivery and execution of Projects.
    • Delivery of Projects to agreed SLA’s
    • Identify and satisfy customer requirements and needs
    • Identify opportunities to delivery projects to meet unrealized and unstated needs
    • Deliver Projects according to customer’s specifications and timelines
    FINANCIAL
    • Manage all projects in accordance with the project and fee budget
    • Compilation of and adherence to departmental and regional budgets
    • Ensure that Projects are delivered in accordance with agreed spend plans
    • Accurate cash flow management and forecasting of projects. (Ensure balance of expenses with actual expenses)
    • Ensure projects are closed financially
    BUSINESS PROCESSES
    • Adherence and implementation of all relevant Project Management and Business processes
    • Identification and implementation of value improvement in current policies, procedures and processes
    • Generated reports and communication via various systems
    • Resource Management
    • Adherence to all SHE, Quality and Risk Management processes

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

    The Applicant must meet the following requirements:

    • Matric/Grade 12 (Senior Certificate)
    • Qualification in Project Management and or a Formal Tertiary qualification in either of the following Building, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, (Electrical Civil or Mechanical)
    • Professional Registration with recognized Project Management or Engineering Association (advantageous)
    • Valid SA Drivers License
    • 3 years related experience, and sound knowledge of project management principles
    • MS Office
