Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and oversee compliance with Building Regulations throughout the design and construction stages.
- Prepare, lodge, and maintain statutory documentation, including Commencement Notices, Inspection Plans, and Certificates of Compliance.
- Carry out and record site inspections at agreed stages, ensuring that works comply with approved plans, specifications, and relevant regulations.
- Liaise effectively with the design team, contractors, and Building Control Authorities to resolve compliance issues.
- Maintain comprehensive inspection records, reports, and compliance evidence.
- Sign and lodge the Certificate of Compliance on Completion , enabling legal occupation or use of the building.
- Provide expert advice on building condition, defects, materials, and maintenance where required.
- Degree in Building Surveying or related discipline.
- Registration with a recognized professional body (e.g., SCSI, RICS).
- Proven experience in building inspections, compliance, and certification under BCAR.
- Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, construction processes, and quality assurance.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and record-keeping skills.

Building Surveyor - South East (Home-based)

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Building Surveyor in the South East.
You will lead and manage various projects to restore properties damaged by insured perils, with values ranging from £50k to £5m. Depending on the project's size and complexity, you may work alone or lead a small team with our QSs, CAD technicians, and engineers.
Your surveying activities will include technical reporting, defect diagnosis, preparing Schedules of Works, contract administration, and project management. You must empathise with clients who have suffered loss or bereavement and deliver professional reports within tight deadlines. Managing workloads and making reasoned decisions under pressure is essential.

The Skills You Will Have When You Apply
- A full UK Driving Licence: It is essential you can travel by car
- Excellent communication skills: You'll speak with and write to policyholders, insurers, contractors, and more. You’ll explain complex details clearly, and negotiate fair settlements for all.
- Extensive knowledge of building construction and relevant legislation
- Chartered status (or working towards this qualification). MRICS or MCIOB preferred, and as a minimum actively working towards Chartered status

The role involves conducting site inspections, plan checks, and performing the standard duties of a BC Inspector.
Provide technical leadership within the service area, ensuring delivery of complex and innovative technical solutions that meet customer and legislative requirements. This may include support in software/information technology, engineering, surveying, curating, or other specialist functions, depending on the service area.
Drive the effective delivery of work packages to achieve service objectives, support decision-making processes, and ensure compliance with legal obligations and strategic goals.
Participate in reviewing and developing organisational strategies, ensuring key performance indicators are met. Offer operational and strategic support to external regulatory/inspection processes and internal governance.
Build strong relationships and negotiate effectively with stakeholders to ensure work packages are delivered efficiently, meeting customer requirements and objectives.
Coordinate work packages within and across service areas to provide holistic advice, considering all factors in decision-making, including Public Service Reform principles.

Job Description
- You will have completed a degree in Quantity Surveying, coupled with 5+ years experience in building projects, on a national basis.
- Certification in CCS is essential and an assessment will be conducted.
- You will have proven experience in contract law, insurances, financial reporting (per site and project), SHEQ legislation and implementation, site staff management (including IR, if the need arises), as well as managing construction methods, measuring outputs, project programming and scheduling.
- You will have managed a small team of surveyors and have a proven track record in motivating and mentoring staff
- You will be flexible to travel if needed, have exceptional interpersonal skills, effectively communicate at all levels, lead by example and deliver results in a high pressure environment, meeting international standards
