Role Description
This is a contract Building Services Engineer role at PJC+Partners located in the City of Cape Town, with work from home flexibility. The Building Services Engineer will be joining our Independent Building Commissioning consulting team to work with engineers and contractors to deliver quality buildings.

his is an exciting opportunity for a graduate or early-career mechanical engineer to build a long-term career in building services. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers to support the design, specification, and coordination of mechanical systems such as HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and building energy systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and specification of mechanical systems in buildings, including HVAC, hot and cold water, and ventilation systems.
- Support the preparation of drawings, schematics, and technical documentation using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Perform basic calculations (e.g. heating/cooling loads, duct sizing) with the guidance of senior engineers.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders such as architects, contractors, and clients.
- Help ensure designs meet relevant standards, regulations, and sustainability requirements (e.g., CIBSE, BREEAM).
- Attend site visits and assist in surveying, inspections, and reporting where required.
- Participate in design team meetings and contribute to project coordination.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Interest in building services and sustainable mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with mechanical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Hevacomp, Revit, IES, or similar) is desirable.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Eagerness to learn and grow within a structured development path.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving approach.

Role Responsibilities
- Manage full design aspects for Electrical and Electronic Services mainly across our Data Centre portfolio.
- Analysing project requirements in the context of various codes and standard and develop conceptual designs through to a set of construction information.
- Directing a small team to ensure compliant designs are delivered to agreed programmes.
- Manage and coordinate interdisciplinary interfaces.
- Develop scripts and add-ins to automate repetitive design aspects and/or to check various design compliance aspects (using e.g., Dynamo, Python).
- Strong understanding of local, international codes and standards, including those applicable to South Africa, Middle East & Australia.
- Representation at client and professional meetings and being able to present work and engage in technical conversations.
- Maintaining accountability for resourcing, timeliness, quality, risk management, project financial performance, scope management and keeping the client informed on project progress.
Minimum Requirements
- BSc/BEng, or MSc/MEng in Electrical Engineering.
- Active professional registration with a certified engineering body.
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years' experience as an Electrical Engineer within the Data Centre and/or Built Environment. (International experience will be highly advantageous).
- Strong technical and view of building services, focussing mainly on Electrical and Electronics.
- Uptime Institute certification would be an advantage.
- Strong proficiency in Revit would be an advantage working on your projects.
- Strong proficiency in EOM and electrical simulation software is highly advantageous.
- Being confident, a team player, approachable.
