Role Overview
SMEC South Africa is seeking a skilled and motivated
Bridge Engineer
to join our dynamic team. This role will focus on the design, analysis, and management of bridge projects throughout South Africa, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and sustainability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil or structural engineering, with specialized experience in bridge engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Engineering:
- Lead the design and analysis of bridge structures, ensuring compliance with local standards and international codes.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, urban planners, and geotechnical engineers, to develop effective and innovative bridge designs.
- Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and cost estimates for bridge projects.
Project Management
- Manage bridge projects from initiation through completion, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality control measures.
- Oversee the production of engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations in line with project requirements.
- Conduct design reviews and site inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications and regulatory standards.
Client And Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and government authorities to present design solutions and address any technical concerns.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.
Innovation And Sustainability
- Advocate for the integration of sustainable engineering practices in bridge designs, focusing on energy efficiency and environmental impact.
- Stay informed on the latest advancements in bridge engineering, materials, and technologies to drive innovation in project delivery.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a specialization in bridge engineering.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in bridge design and project management, with a proven track record of delivering successful infrastructure projects in South Africa.
Skills:
Proficiency in structural design software (e.g., Midas, SAP2000, CSI Bridge).
- Strong knowledge of local bridge design codes and standards (SANS, TRH, etc.).
- Excellent project management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
