Key Responsibilities
  • Helpdesk Support : Triage and respond to Revit helpdesk tickets, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues for project teams.

  • Revit Standards & Systems : Assist with maintaining Revit office standards, developing Revit systems, and contributing to system documentation and optimisation.

  • Training & Upskilling : Help create training materials, deliver tutorials, and contribute to the ongoing upskilling of staff in BIM workflows and Revit best practices.

  • Content Development : Generate and optimise Revit content, including geometry adapted for CGI use.

Role overview

The role retains accountability for the implementation of BIM across all projects within a business unit (BU). The BIM manager is the primary point of contact for BIM in a BU and reports to the BU MD or Director of Operations.


Role responsibilities

  • Functionally lead the team of BIM coordinators, modellers, detailers and Information managers in the BU, develop real-time visibility of their day-to-day capacity, assess their capability and initiate training/mentoring as required.
  • Review the scope off all incoming projects and lead completion of the preflight checklist at the price/plan and mobilisation stage of all projects.
  • Provide project specific support to BIM coordinators and Information Managers, typically at the start of the project but also as required during the delivery stages.
  • Support data integration initiatives to allow more objective project performance tracking via the BIM Data Platform and BIM Dashboard.
  • Work closely with Project Executives to ensure projects are resourced with the right people in time to ensure efficient project BIM execution and resource utilisation.
  • Co-develop and function as owner of the baseline workflows for the BU.
  • Owner of the Zutari baseline LOIN and authoring templates for the BU.
  • Manage BIM software use & selection within the BU to optimise token use.
  • Lead innovation and experimentation with new BIM technologies within the BU.
  • Act as lead BIM data custodian for the BU.
  • 5 – 10 years BIM management experience.
  • Operam Information Management Professional accreditation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Advanced technical expertise relevant to the respective business unit.
  • Advanced modelling, federation, and information management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 19650 and ISO 7817.
  • Advanced Excell, SQL, Python & PowerBi skills advantageous.
  • BIM, engineering, architecture, or construction management degree preferred.

Key interactions:

  • Member of Zutari BIM leadership providing input into business strategy and process.

Job Description

AECOM is currently recruiting for the role of BIM Coordinator (Civils), this position is responsible for managing the implementation of BIM and Information Management on civils projects for Enterprise Capabilities. This position will offer a hybrid work schedule to include both office and remote work opportunities based from one of 4 office locations in South Africa.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • BIM Implementation Execution – execute the BIM Implementation strategy on complex international projects
  • CDE Admin – provide CDE administration to project teams, manage permissions, complete model-setup in ACC/BIM360 and/or ProjectWise
  • Multi-Discipline Coordination – lead and execute project coordination workflows, create federated model, condition model data as necessary, lead and execute clash detection on models, lead BIM coordination meetings and support project teams with project issue’s management using either ACC, BIM360, Navisworks or Revizto
  • Information Management – coordinate smart object metadata and classification codes with asset information databases
  • Technical Support – provide advanced guidance on 3D modelling and data management and oversee project teams using either the Bentley suite; OpenBridge, OpenRoads, OpenBuildings or the Autodesk suite; Civil 3D, InfraWorks, Revit.
  • Scan-to-BIM - integrate Point Clouds in the project’s federated model dataset and implement the Scan-to-BIM workflow
  • 4D Simulation – produce 4D construction simulations with Navisworks and/or Synchro or similar
  • Content Creation – support the production and creation of smart object content libraries & templates (parametric Revit families, Revit templates, Civil 3D component catalogues) and support the maintenance of AECOM’s content management repositories (Avail/UNIFI)
  • Collaboration – be an ambassador for collaboration with other BIM / Information Management team members from different Enterprise Capabilities offices (Spain, Poland, India, South Africa, Romania, etc). Drive consistency in standards and best practice approaches for BIM across regions

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Demonstratable portfolio of civil and infrastructure projects working as BIM Coordinator / modeller / documenter
  • (Preferably civils infrastructure projects (bridges, tunnels, roads, rail, and civils buildings).
  • Experience executing multi-discipline coordination, clash detection and issue management and an advanced user of any of the following: Autodesk Navisworks, Revizto, and/or ACC Model Coordination.
  • Experience working with the ISO19650 framework and implementing required documentation in a project environment.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience resolving model issues and conflicts in Civil 3D and Revit
  • Experience optimising workflows with Dynamo will be considered favourable
  • Technical design and construction delivery knowledge for Transport and Civil Infrastructure disciplines.
  • Experience working with Common Data Environments Autodesk Construction Cloud and Bentley ProjectWise.
  • Previous experience working for Transport Authority clients in the USA and Australia will be considered favourable.

Job Overview

We are seeking a HVAC BIM Modeller to join our team in Cape Town. The candidate will work with our engineering team to produce detailed design documentation for HVAC systems on exciting international projects.

Role Responsibilities

  1. Execute the 3D digital build with the required authoring software to accurately capture the design and all design related data.
  2. Pay careful consideration to the context, relevant interfaces, and buildability of the model elements during the digital build.
  3. Ensure that the details developed are technically feasible.
  4. Ensure that all required metadata not automatically generated is manually added to the digital build elements, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail and a real commitment to data accuracy.
  5. Achieve completion of various aspects of the digital build as set out in the MIDP and TIDP to maintain the agreed cadence of model federation and information sharing.
  6. Achieve ongoing project adherence to the BEP/EIRs and communicate opportunities for efficiency enhancement to the BIM coordinator and other team members.
  7. Pay close attention to quality of outputs, review and self-check modelling work to ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation.
  8. Demonstrate ongoing improvement in software and technical understanding.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Minimum Matric or Equivalent and an industry recognized Modelling or Draughting qualification.
  2. Minimum of 3 or more years’ experience as an HVAC BIM Modeller using Revit to produce models, outputs and documentation.
  3. Revit for HVAC is a minimum requirement as the main authoring software.
  4. AutoCAD and automation packages such as Dynamo/Grasshopper/Rhino is advantageous.
  5. Familiarity with BIM360 and Autodesk Construction Cloud advantageous.
  6. Ability to work in a dynamic environment and adapt to frequent project changes.
  7. Ability to work efficiently as part of a team.
  8. Have the ability to use initiative to resolve tasks or problems.
  9. Extensive experience in modeling and detailing chilled water systems, central cooling and heating systems and large scape ventilation systems.
  10. Must be able to lead a team to deliver a task and goals. Minimum 1 - 2 years of experience.
  11. Must be able to communicate well both written and verbally.

Key Requirements

  1. Experience in modeling and detailing chilled water HVAC systems.
  2. Experience in modeling and detailing shop drawings.
  3. Familiarity of ASHRAE design and construction principles.
  4. Experience with modelling to LOIN / LOD / LOI requirements.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to read and understand HVAC drawings and specifications.
  6. Exceptional attention to detail, organization and time management skills.
  7. Exceptional communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
