Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare a wide variety of goods such as cakes, cookies, pies, pastries and breads.
  • Decorate pastries using different icings, toppings, etc. to ensure the presentation will be beautiful and exciting.

High School Diploma or GED is required unless waived by Human Resources Management. Three (3) years related food service experience in baking pastry and advanced cake decorating required, including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity. Associates Degree in Culinary Arts or related field and AFC certification preferred. ServSafe certification required. Excellent interpersonal, guest service, leadership, communication (verbal and written), analytical, decision-making, inventory control, computer literacy, and problem-solving skills are required. Demonstrated ability to understand cost control methods pertaining to individual menu items. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation, obtain and maintain gaming license.

About The Role

This role will require you to lead the proactive development of integrated solutions which support the overall sustainable growth and profit development of Kerry business within the bakery market. To be seen as the Kerry “go–to” expert on customer needs in relation to finished products and processes and provide expertise in the application of Kerry technologies into customer products. Work closely with the commercial team and support priority business initiatives to help deliver growth in key industrial bakery accounts by translating Kerry technology capability into industrial bakery sales.

Reporting To: Business Development & Technical Support Lead, Bakery - Africa

Work Location: Hillcrest (Durban), South Africa

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for linking consumer and customer insights into application solutions.
  • Execute the agreed value proposition with growth and potential growth customers including training own bakery market, commercial and product technology teams as necessary in collaboration with technology.
  • Optimize existing technology into existing applications.
  • Identify opportunities to extend the existing technologies into new applications.
  • Identify and create solutions that lead to multiple technology sales.
  • Identify and assess new technologies applicable in existing applications.
  • Support both internal and external PIP.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of customer process technologies and application requirement.
Qualifications And Skills
  • Preferably a completed Bachelorbs Degree in Food Science, Food Technology or equivalent.
  • Preferably at least 8 years' experience in bakery application/R&D/NPD roles.
  • Significant experience in industrial bakery manufacturing/processing.
  • Good knowledge of bakery products including Bread, Fermented goods, Yeast raised laminated products etc.
  • Good knowledge of associated product categories such as process aids and functional ingredients (e.g. enzymes, emulsifiers).
  • Good business and commercial understanding.
  • Experience in customer interaction and customer driven technical support.
  • Ability to interface with other business functions, especially sales, R&D technologists, and senior management level within the business.
  • Ability to independently plan and execute technical work programmes to deliver agreed strategic business plans and solutions.
  • Must be self motivated, analytical with a strong attention to detail.
  • Have good communication, people and project management skills.
  • Have the ability to work under pressure to ensure deadlines are met and capable to work as part of a team.
