PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The applicant will engage in teaching and learning at Honours and MSc level, in research supervision of Masters and PhD students and in research and writing publications within any nuclear or radiation science field.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching:
- Teaching and examining in any nuclear science field for example, Nuclear Radiation protection, Applications of Radiation in Industry, Radio-analytical chemistry, Nuclear Waste minimization or Radio-pharmacy, Medical Physics (e.g. radiography, radiotherapy, SPECT, PET, CT-SCAN NMRI), at Honors to MSc level.
Research:
- Conduct research and publish and engage in third stream income generating projects for CARST.
- Initiate research projects and supervise PhD, MSc and honours students.
- Recruit well qualified PG students to CARST.
- Obtain research funding.
Community Engagement:
- Participate in, initiate and contribute to societal and community engagement projects.
Administration and management:
- Conduct training of staff, Postgraduate and undergraduate students in laboratory techniques and analysis in his/her specialisation.
- Ensure Chain of custody for all radioactive materials at CARST, quality analysis and control of results submitted for analysis.
- Liaise with industry partners in teaching, research and supervision to ensure smooth running of the CARST programmes.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure quality control of all sample analysis and Implement Radiation Protection Procedures.
- A PhD (NQF level 10) in Nuclear Science, Nuclear Physics, Physics, Medical Physics, Nuclear Chemistry or equivalent.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in teaching the modules related to Nuclear Science.
- Experience in proven scientific track record of postgraduate PhD & MSc supervision/mentorship and publications in peer reviewed journals.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ research management experience.
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
- A minimum of five (5) years’ industry experience in Nuclear Science.
- NRF rating.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to source for Projects funding to support student research.
- Ability to supervise PhD and MSc postgraduates.
- Good practical knowledge of analytical techniques in field of specialization.
- Perform administrative and management tasks.

- Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally (writing and verbally) in the various multilingual environments of the NWU – on all levels (students, colleagues and management).
- Assist / take the lead with module / programme development.

- Conduct independent and co-operative research within the focus areas of the School and research centre.
- Writing of research proposals and securing project / research funding.

- A strong academic record, with extensive experience in facilitating learning and teaching at both undergraduate andpostgraduate levels, preferably in one of the following subject areas: Information Technology (IT) Education,
Computer Assisted Technology (CAT) Education, Robotics and Coding Theory - A strong track record of quality academic research with at least 15 DHET accredited publications related to the fieldof IT Education and/or CAT Education
- A record of successful postgraduate supervision of Masters and PhD students

The Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Experimental Physical Chemistry. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Chemistry in the field of Physical Chemistry or an allied field with a clearly demonstrated exceptional record of excellence in research and teaching in the area of Experimental Physical Chemistry. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths .
Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative research at the highest international level and to maintain an outstanding, independent, externally funded research program.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence as demonstrated by a record of sustained and high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or conferences, the submitted research statement, distinguished awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, and a high international profile in the field, as well as strong endorsements by referees of high standing.
Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong endorsements by referees, and the teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below).
