Job Description
Oversee the daily operations of a healthcare unit within a retirement community, to lead a team of nurses, healthcare and support staff to ensure high-quality resident care, and maintain smooth and efficient unit management.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
- 2 years nursing experience
- Must have experience in elderly care
- Facility and team management experience, including kitchens, laundry, and nursing
- Proficiency in both English and Afrikaans
- Must have a valid driver's license and own transport
Key Performance Areas:
- Serve as the main contact for residents and families, providing healthcare updates and addressing concerns with empathy
- Lead and manage nursing, cleaning, and kitchen staff to maintain high standards of care and service for residents
- Oversee nursing care including developing and updating care plans, monitoring resident health and adjusting care as needed
- Quality and compliance management to meet healthcare regulations and internal standards, including regular quality checks and addressing any issues impacting care or compliance
- Staff performance management, including training and development
- Budget and resource management, including consumables, supplies, and equipment
- Oversee scheduling, documentation, and reporting
- Manage occupancy levels, including conducting tours, and assisting with onboarding new residents

ABOUT THE TEAM
The Tjungu (together) team provides support, advocacy and case management to ngaltutjara tjuta – people with disabilities, elderly people, their carers & families. Tjungu philosophy and principles support the right of older Anangu and Yarnangu, and people with disabilities to live in their communities so that family and relationships can be maintained and spiritual and physical connections with country are continued. The Tjungu Team provides advocacy, accessible information, equipment, respite care and other support suitable to the needs of our clients who reside in 26 Aboriginal communities of the cross-border region of South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The role Senior Project Officer Elder Care Support will support Anangu Aged Care Connectors (ACC) in all aspects of their work including; to identify clients and to navigate access to appropriate local aged care support services.
This role will assist clients to understand their aged care service entitlements, including My Aged Care registration, contractual arrangements and costs, and will help ensure Elders and their family are well-prepared for plan reviews and outcomes. This role will liaise with aged care Assessors to ensure Elders are well-supported throughout the assessment process.
Underpinning the role are two key work practices: cultural safety and trauma informed practice. The Senior Project Officer Elder Care Support will work closely with Anangu Aged Care Connectors to support clients and families.
ABOUT YOU
You will have relevant tertiary qualifications or extensive relevant experience in administration & community development or related human services work. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with community and demonstrated understanding of the principles of person-centered care and trauma-informed practice.
In addition to this we offer a generous remuneration package. You will receive an above award salary, salary packaging benefits, 5 weeks of annual leave and 15 days of personal leave. We also provide use of a company vehicle when travelling remotely along with travel allowance.
