Main Purpose of Job

The Head of Medical Training and Medical Affairs is responsible for effective operation of the department and the development, implementation, and delivery of training programs for medical/pharmaceutical sales representatives. The position holds dual responsibility (department management and delivery of training) with the core objective of sales representatives having a thorough understanding of the products they will detail to healthcare professionals, including features, benefits, and clinical data. The training department will also equip the representatives with effective sales techniques, product knowledge, and regulatory compliance standards to maximize product awareness and achieve sales objectives.

Provide support to Marketing for marketing strategy, detail aids input, and engagement with KOLs and CMEs for Doctors.

Key Performance Areas (Core, essential responsibilities –outputs of the position)

Design and implement comprehensive training programs for new and existing medical/pharmaceutical sales representatives, focusing on product knowledge, detailing

strategies, and compliance with industry regulations. Conduct in-person and virtual training sessions, workshops, and seminars to enhance the

skills and knowledge of sales representatives. Develop training materials, including manuals, e-learning modules, and case studies, to

support learning objectives.

Continuous Training: evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make adjustments as necessary to improve training outcomes and meet sales goals.

Stay updated on new product developments, industry trends, and regulatory changes to ensure training content is current and relevant.

Collaborate with product managers, marketing teams, and regulatory affairs to gather accurate product information and training needs.

Monitor and assess the performance of sales representatives, providing feedback and additional coaching as needed.

Facilitate role-playing scenarios and simulations to practice detailing techniques and handling objections from healthcare professionals.

Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the sales team.

Support to Marketing department

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION

Medical Doctor

Experience.

Experience in sales training, preferably within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare industry.

Strong understanding of pharmaceutical products, medical terminology, and the healthcare

environment.Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage and motivate adult

learners.

Proficient in developing training materials and utilizing various training methodologies. Knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards affecting pharmaceutical sales.

Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Ability to travel as needed to conduct training sessions and attend conferences.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience

Skills/Physical Competencies

Highly motivated and self-directed, with a passion for teaching and professional development.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt training strategies to meet diverse learning needs.

Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Formal schooling and qualifications:

Grade 12.

Responsibilities:

  • The Skills Development Facilitator will report for duty as determent by the BCEA.
  • The Skills Development Facilitator with report for duty over weekends when required.
  • The Skills Development Facilitator must ensure that all training equipment is maintained and returned in good working order as received.
  • The Skills Development Facilitator must report any damage to equipment to the HoD.
  • The Skills Development Facilitator is responsible for maintaining, in good order and up to date, the following (but not limited to):
  1. Classrooms registers
  2. Learner records
  3. Assessment and Moderation records (PoE Documents)
  4. Content files (Learner material)
  • The Skills Development Facilitator will be responsible for his/her immediate working area as well as the classrooms that are being used daily to deliver training.
  • The Skills Development Facilitator will wear company Uniform and PPE associated with the class and practical activities.
  • The Skills Development Facilitator will notify the HoD of any learners with learning disabilities, determined through classroom activities and provide additional support with the assistance of the Head of the Training Dept as and when needed.
  • The Skills Development Facilitator must complete and submit training reports for each program precented.
  • The Skills Development Facilitator will provide all the required paperwork for the Skills programs to the administrator to capture course details as required.
  • The Skills Development Facilitator will provide all required paperwork for the induction programs to the administrator to capture details as required on the LMS.
  • The Skills Development Facilitator must submit the assessment reports of the learners for every course to the HoD.
  • The Skills Development Facilitator must identify and ensure that he/she immediately notifies the HoD of any concerns in terms of medical condition of learners before he/she starts with training programs.
  • Upgrading of learner and skills training material and development of learner handbooks as guided by the appropriately skilled moderators appointed by the HoD.
  • Compile and manage assessments of outcomes-based assessments for each unit standard taught.
  • Assist with the SETA verification process and site visits as and when needed.
  • Ensure that all PoE Documents are in good standing.
  • Remuneration:

    Negotiable, depending on skills and experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Deliver engaging training sessions.
    • Facilitate and respond to participant questions during live online sessions.
    • Learn and understand product content within defined timelines to ensure effective delivery of training.
    • Stay consistently updated on product changes and seamlessly integrate them into training courses.

    As the Talent Development Consultant, your responsibilities will be:

    • The delivery of talent development activities for skills development, learning design and delivery, by building relationships (internal; third parties) to ensure the execution of operational activities.
    • Ensuring the end-to-end instructional design of all training requirements (management skills; competencies; technical; product; systems; projects; etc).
    • Ensuring the end-to-end management of all SETA funded programmes; BBBEE scorecard improvements; programme completion and absorption; and detailed tracking of all SETA activities to best meet reporting requirements.
    • Ensuring the end-to-end delivery of TFG funded learning and development interventions - internally or externally.
    • Identify and manage potential risk related to all talent development activities.
    • Continuous focus on identifying opportunities for improvement in talent development processes.
    • Continuous focus on identifying risk to delivery and timeous escalation of any deviation to policy and company practice.
    • Assist broader People Shared Services according to resource needs (valley periods, emergencies, projects).

    To apply you need to have:

    • HR Degree or relevant Qualification (essential).
    • More than 5 years functional experience in Talent Development across the board (essential).
    • Working understanding of Skills Development, Learning Design and Delivery.
    • Registered as a Skills Development Facilitator.
