As an Antenna Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, simulation, prototyping, and testing of advanced antenna systems. Youll work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop high-performance antennas for diverse platforms and frequencies.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and optimize antennas (e.g., patch, monopole, dipole, array, etc.) using industry-standard simulation tools.
  • Perform electromagnetic simulations (using tools such as CST, HFSS, FEKO).
  • Conduct lab testing and validation using VNAs, anechoic chambers, and other RF equipment.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and systems engineers to integrate antenna designs into products.
  • Generate technical documentation and reports.
  • Participate in R&D initiatives to explore emerging technologies and novel antenna concepts.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience in antenna design and simulation.
  • Solid understanding of RF principles, impedance matching, and radiation pattern analysis.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying areas of energy efficiency and reliability improvement for main LV distribution and downstream to the DC (e.g., UPSs, STSs, distribution from DC to Energy Centre, generator distribution, HV switchgear), including innovative technologies and practices.

Main functions of the job include:

  1. Perform regular equipment inspections to identify and address potential issues proactively.
  2. Oversee 3 yearly electrical maintenance shutdowns to ensure time efficiency and appropriate level of maintenance at the Energy Centre and MV level.
  3. Drive the transformation from preventative maintenance to condition-based maintenance.
  4. Make recommendations on which electrical maintenance and inspection functions should be insourced.
  5. Advise the Maintenance Department to ensure all electrical systems are maintained in accordance with the company's standards, international best practices, and OEM requirements.
  6. Bridge the skills gap between service providers and the company's operations, properly questioning the service provider on suggested repairs.
  7. Serve as a 3rd line escalation for complex technical escalations and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve emergencies promptly.
  8. Compile electrical system simulation scenarios and assist with scheduling and completion of exercises to ensure all teams are practiced in required emergency responses.
  9. Highlight training needs with the L&D Manager and collaborate with him/her to develop and deliver training programs that enhance electrical/UPS skills of employees.
  10. Deep involvement in RCAs and tracking of correctives, creating a link between operations and design, ensuring lessons learned are adapted nationally under scenario training.
  11. Manage electrical capacity (load balancing, design capacity vs sold capacity, demand, busbar load, phasing on UPS loads, PALS oversold at Power Distribution Panel level, managing trip risk as we approach >95% of capacity, high-density racks).
  12. Ensure value from the company's Building Management System as an expert user, considering trend analysis of alarms and electrical system incidents to identify improvement opportunities.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD:
  • Have a B.Sc. B.Eng. (Electrical, heavy current) / B.Tech (Electrical, heavy current) or international equivalent;
  • Be registered as a professional engineer or technologist with ECSA;
  • Have a minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in heavy industry, power generation, and power system engineering (HV and MV);
  • Have effective computer skills using Microsoft Office and specialist engineering simulation software such as CAD, DigSilient Powerfactory, etc.;
  • Have excellent report writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills;
  • Have effective interpersonal skills for client interface and team collaboration;
  • Be prepared to travel within and outside RSA borders;
  • Have own transport and a valid driver’s license.
