This position reports to the Operational Analytics Manager
Your responsibilities will include:
Development & Implementation:
- Design, develop, and implement tools to improve visibility, reduce risk, and enhance productivity in DC operations.
- Develop and maintain Android applications and backend solutions.
- Debug and troubleshoot issues in applications and integrations.
- Implement UI solutions using low-code or other approved technologies.
- Integrate third-party APIs, optimize performance, and apply security best practices.
Project Management & Documentation:
- Work with project managers to gather requirements and create project specifications.
- Translate requirements into technical tasks and timelines.
- Develop and maintain documentation, including SOPs and technical guides.
- Work closely with DevOps, Data Engineering, IT Services, and other technical teams.
- Participate in team meetings, communicate progress, and address blockers.
- Provide technical support and training to super users.
Data & Reporting:
- Develop data pipelines and ensure data integrity in reporting systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data discrepancies.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement:
- Conduct QA testing to ensure software reliability.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices.
- Identify opportunities for process automation and performance optimization.
- Maintain technical knowledge through ongoing learning and professional development.
Technical Skills & Best Practices:
- Use Git for version control and implement CI/CD pipelines.
- Write and maintain technical documentation for APIs and libraries.
- Develop RESTful APIs, optimize database queries, and implement caching strategies.
- Ensure secure data transmission and implement authentication/authorization mechanisms.
- Gather user feedback, and refine applications based on insights.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree, BTech or Advanced Diploma in Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering
- In the event that you do not have a bachelor’s degree or an advanced diploma (in Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering), an equivalent experience requirement must be met, which equates to a minimum of 6 years of operational support experience in a software/technology environment.
- 2 years of operational support experience in a software/technology environment
- In-depth understanding of best practices relating to system support and monitoring
- Experience building applications with Low-code builders (eg. Flutterflow, Appgyver, etc.)
- Good database knowledge, including the ability to write and optimize complex queries using SQL.
- Experience with one or more system monitoring and alerting system
- Experience designing and developing reports
- Server and Networking experience beneficial
- Understanding and experience in one of the following environments will be beneficial: Supply Chain & Logistics, WMS
- Prior experience within an ecommerce company or warehouse experience will be beneficial

Role Description
- Under the guidance of the Lead Analytics Engineer / Team, build data and feature marts for consumption by the data analyst, scientist, and machine learning communities.
- Set up monitoring, testing and automation procedures of data artifacts.
- Execute business requirements into fit-for-purpose, robust and scalable data solutions.
- Organise and transform data in a meaningful way and provide additional context as necessary so that it is ready for analysis.
- Execute standard testing procedures and routine monitoring of datasets.
- Maintain documentation related to datasets and analysis, ensuring the same language and definitions are applied.
- Productionisation of data products.
- Provide firstline data pipeline support.
- Support with refining scripts and procedures to improve and maintain standard guidelines of the data pipeline process.
- Collaborate across teams to address and improve data quality at the source.
- Support with the enablement and adoption of software engineering best practices.
- Provide standard data modelling support to various teams through code reviews and training.
Qualifications and experience
- Degree or Diploma in a Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field – (essential).
- +1 years’ experience working as part of a data team, with exposure to the productionisation of data science models / building and optimising data pipelines, architectures and data sets or similar – (essential).
- Basic knowledge of SQL – (essential).
- Exposure to working with large data sets and business models – (desired).
- Proficiency in AWS cloud computing-based Python / PySpark - (desired).
- Exposure to and comfortable with adopting software engineering best practices including version control – (desired).
- Experience working within and across a multifunctional team – (desired).
- Experience working in an Agile environment – (desired).

This is our first Analytics Engineering role focused on building analytics friendly data products and modernising our analytics engineering practice across the company!
What you'll achieve in the first 12 months- Complete the first version of a Sanlam FinTech Friendly Data Design (e.g. conceptual and logical model plus ubiquitous language). Work across product and business managers, backend and data engineers, individual contributors and team leads to accumulate a critical mass of team knowledge about both our domain model and how that relates to our source data landscape. Apply this knowledge to develop a simplified conceptual and logical model, map the entities to their source system origin tables, and distill our domain specific languages into a common ubiquitous language.
- Have friendly data tables for the five most consumed domain events in SFT (i.e. Fact tables) that act as the single authoritative representation of those events for across the company. Bring the five most needed domain events from the friendly data design to life in Snowflake by physically modelling them to complete the design process, and executing to build highly reliable data products using DBT that the entire company can rely on.
- Enable alignment and interoperability across all of Sanlam’s data: Work across the company with other data product teams to facilitate alignment on design principles, language, and production standards.
- Coach and mentor other analytics engineers and business analysts across the company: Help modernize the practice of preparing data for learning at Sanlam. Coach junior and mid engineers to improve their already strong code quality and analytical solving. Be the strongest conceptual modeler and engineer that everyone looks to for tips on how to improve their analytics engineering practices.

As our Data Analytics Engineer, you will be responsible for driving the business to make data-driven decisions and enhancing self-service Business Intelligence within Scatec.
The role involves engaging with teams across departments such as Finance, Project Development, Asset Management, HR, Solutions, and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) to understand business processes and value drivers, and to specify data requirements.
