At Capitec, the Software Engineer (AI) plays a pivotal role in our cross-functional team, dedicated to the full software development lifecycle. This includes concept, development, deployment, and the ongoing operation of each product. As a Software Engineer (AI), you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing complex AI-driven software systems and applications. Your focus will be on scalability, performance, and future requirements.

The AI Product Team is focused on developing generative AI capabilities for digital channels such as the mobile app and WhatsApp, aiming to enhance user engagement through conversational banking and smart actions. The team is structured into two main arms: a product-facing arm responsible for gathering requirements and designing user experiences, and a delivery arm dedicated to software development and engineering. The team builds AI models using both traditional and generative techniques, with the goal of integrating these services seamlessly into digital platforms to enable intelligent, context-aware interactions that improve the overall user experience.

• 6+ years of work experience in a similar position
• Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), and AI development tools is a must
• Proficiency in Python, Java, Spring Boot or C++, and other relevant programming languages
• Strong expertise in Docker and Kubernetes
• Cloud services expertise (AWS preferred)
• RESTful API design and development principles is a must
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a proven track record of working effectively within a team environment

We are seeking a highly skilled and agile AI Engineer to design, develop, and deploy fast-turnaround AI prototypes. You will work closely with our product and engineering teams to explore innovative AI solutions that can be tested and validated rapidly. Your role involves translating conceptual ideas into tangible MVPs using machine learning, deep learning, and generative AI technologies.

• Rapidly build and iterate on AI prototypes using tools such as AI Agents, LLM API calls, Pydantic AI, Langchain, RAGs, and others.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define AI use cases and data requirements.
• Build interactive demos or APIs to showcase prototypes to stakeholders.
• Stay current with AI/ML advancements and evaluate new tools and libraries.
• Optimize app performance and scalability for proof-of-concept demos.

Minimum:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, or related fields.
• 2+ years of experience in machine learning, data science, or AI engineering.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with relevant libraries (e.g., Pydantic, OpenAI, LangChain).
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, foundational models, and cloud-based AI services (Azure ML, AWS Sagemaker, Google Vertex AI).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, startup-like environment focused on rapid delivery and iteration.
• Experience building APIs or lightweight UIs for AI models.

Preferred:

• Experience with prompt engineering and fine-tuning LLMs.
• Knowledge of MLOps or deploying open-source large language models.
• Familiarity with vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS).
• Experience in AI products for EdTech, FinTech, or HealthTech is a plus.

What will you be doing as an AI Engineer at Elixirr Digital?

Design and Implement Solutions: Architect, design, and develop advanced AI systems with a focus on LLMs and agentic solutions that transform enterprise workflows.

• Lead and Collaborate : Lead teams, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional experts to deliver AI-driven innovations.
• Drive Innovation: Work on a mix of internal R&D projects and enterprise-level solutions, building and optimizing tools for both internal and client use.
• Deploy at Scale: Develop and maintain production-ready AI solutions, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.
• End-to-End Lifecycle: Own and contribute to the entire AI development lifecycle—from research and prototyping to deployment and monitoring.

At Capitec, the Software Engineer (AI) plays a pivotal role in our cross-functional team, dedicated to the full software development lifecycle of our GenAI-based products. This includes research, development, deployment, and ongoing operation of each product. As a Software Engineer (AI), you will be responsible for researching, designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing complex AI-driven software systems and applications. Your focus will be on scalability, performance, and future requirements.

You will work closely with our team of designers and developers to deliver robust GenAI solutions. This role also involves guiding and supporting developers and stakeholders in scoping, progress, status, and resolution of engineering problems. Your expertise in utilizing generative models, natural language processing, and AI-driven workflows will be crucial in creating intelligent systems that can generate content, automate creative tasks, and enhance user experiences in innovative ways.

• 5+ years of work experience in ML/AI or related domains
• 3+ years of experience with AI/Machine Learning techniques, model development, and deployment
• Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and AI development tools
• Experience with information retrieval systems and search
• Proficiency in Python, Java, or C++, and other relevant programming languages
• Strong expertise in Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with microservice architecture and building microservices
• Experience with messaging platforms and systems
• RESTful API design and development principles
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven track record of working effectively within a team
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, dedicated to delivering high-quality solutions
• Proficiency in English is required

Position Summary

As an AI Engineer , you will be at the forefront of integrating artificial intelligence into The Flex’s systems. You’ll build, deploy, and optimize AI-driven tools and models that support operations, customer experience, automation, and decision-making. This is a high-impact role with the potential to shape the future of tech in the real estate industry.

Key Responsibilities

• AI & ML Development: Build and train machine learning models for use cases like pricing optimization, Property Management Tools.
• LLM Integration: Develop and integrate LLM-powered features (e.g., GPT APIs) into internal tools and customer-facing products.
• Automation: Leverage AI to automate repetitive internal tasks, enhance support, and improve user experience.
• Deployment: Package and deploy models into production using modern MLOps tools and cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS).
• Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, product managers, and operations teams to identify and implement impactful AI opportunities.
• Documentation & Maintenance: Ensure reproducibility, versioning, and continuous improvement of all AI models and pipelines.
